Did you read the schematic yet? I haven't looted the Metal Recylcer yet, but the other ones I have read say something different for the schematic name on the looted item and the object name that is in your datapad (and that you create). The Ore Recycler is called the "Rock Tumbler" once you read it and the Flora one is "Floral Mulcher/Processor"

Yes, it's rare. In fact 10 minutes after I posted the message above yours I looted the Metal Recycler, and it's not called a Smelting Machine as the originator of this thread posted.

Just finished the Ore recycler - "Rock Tumbler"... Has 3 settings... gems & 2 ore types that it can spit out. All together it took 19 loot items from 4 planets and an insignificant # of other resorces...

I built one of these on Starsider.
All metals become their smelted equivalent. Aluminum -> Smelted Aluminum. Steel -> Smelted Steel. Copper -> Smelted Copper. All stats are 200 for all metals (and presumably for other resources fed to other recyclers as well).
It's actually quite a bit simpler than it sounds. Set the smelter for the class of metal (ferrous, non-ferrous) and drop a stack in. Smelted metal immediately appears in your inventory. That's all there is to it.

So it is not possible to recycle into another type of resource (or to a generic resource like iron+steel -> smelter ferrous metal)? Then THs article is wrong, he wroite that you could take 2 different class of flora and get a base resource

May I ask how/where you got the Metal Recycler? Was it at the Canyon Corsair POI or from missions? Second, where did you get the blue wires, please?
Thank you,
Did you even read the thread?

Duralloy Steel + Thoranium Steel + Duranium Steel = Smelted Steel

Did you even read my messages? Given that I have killed hundreds of these guys at the Corsair POI and the Binyaries POI, I just wanted conformation. Why? Because I have not seen these drop ever. Perhaps they are only comming from missions. It's call conformation, not assumption.

I Confirmed it at the top of this page, and the Blue wires seem to be dropping from binyares as several people have reported (tho they are rare)

Yeah, I saw this at the top of the page:

I can verify this, I looted one tonight from a 14.3k Canyon Corsair mission started in a player town 1k north of Nyms.

After finding a schematic for a smelting machine of a recently deceased Canyon Corsair, I took it back to my lab to examine it.
Which I would take as an indication (or confirmation if you will) that it came from Canyon Corsair's which were killed during a mission.
