Which is why the thread is titled " BEFORE you swing the giant nerf bat."

In any case some good repsonses here. I should point out that I truly love this game. I hated it with a passion at launch, then learned the errors of my ways and have been playing this consistent since 10/03. Ive seen good and bad as have all long time players. Im just kind of begging SOE to not go overboard with the rebalance. I recall with horror how the many many many changes to planetside killed that game for me. Not to mention a weak expansion pack. I truly do not want the same thing to happen here.

When I die I want to go like my Grandfather, quiet and peacefully in my sleep. Not like the passengers, screaming and yelling in his car!

In general I agree, nerfing away without any regard for how everything plays together is a problem that I'm seriously worried SOE will not account for. I've been playing since launch and have seen one "rebalance/nerf" after another and my biggest worry is that they will take too drastic a step eating up too many resources at SOE and then say they can't make tweaks to the system for 3 months because they have to work on new content to entice new players.

All to often the devs have had the right idea in changes but instead of small, deliberate changes that can be tweaked to ensure they are proportional and work with the miriad other game aspects they go for the huge one off change that destroys game play. For example the Corvette. When it first came out it was a blast, with a group of 10 decent players you could walk your way through killing and looting as intended, it was hard and required teamwork and planning, but it was doable given these things. Without planning you were toast or ran out of time. Then just because some people were able to loot the power packs for the AV-21s and make loads of money they brought in a huge change adding upwards of 10-20 SBD. Now a group of 10 elite combat professions and docs/CMs has no chance because either you go very slow and run out of time as you grind down the SBD 1-2 at a time or peopole die off one by one and the team loses power as they can't rebuff. Now you have to go solo to stand a chance, buff/food/drinks/walk/loot/escape and never start a fight.

This has happened all to often, "balance" is best acheived in small measures, if they don't get this right I think they all know they will be looking for work, and we'll be out of a game.

Two people in my guild Hit ALL OF DATHOMIR and flattened everything there. They cleared the whole planet of its high end spawns. Now thats just wrong.

Well, I can say this.. CURB is not in Alpha testing yet. Realize everything that has been said is still completely open to change. NERFs have been discussed all over the boards but realize all professions are represented in the CURB and nothing is set in stone yet.

It is best to patiently wait until at least the BETA starts before getting too concerned about any single issue with the upgrade. Not trying to disagree with you but even us Alpha testers haven't had a chance to see what will or won't be capped/nerfed/changed/etc...

To all those who are already flaming the Dev's over this stuff, just relax... it's a longtime till anything is definate.

I know the power of the Dark Side. I am the fire of hate.

I truly understand what you are saying. Its just my hope that by getting out in front of this, it may help a bit. My main concern are doc buffs. IF and I understand IF they are hard capped it could create huge issues for solo players as well as groups. The cap number IF it takes place has to be high enough to all players to compete against the various mobs as well as other players. It also has to be high enough to allow docs to enjoy trying to make the best buffs and sell their buffs and stand out in the community. IF a hard cap is in place that allows for junk resources to be used to hit the cap, it kind of takes some of the skill and crafting motivations away from the dedicated docs. We have all heard various numbers being tossed around and I understand its all rumor. But if the CB is handled properly up front it will draw old players back, keep current ones from bailing and perhaps bring in new blood as well.

Hey did you happen to play in the beginning, when there were no buffs? Many of us around during that time had ten times more fun, un-buffed, taking down baz nitch lairs in groups of 10 rather than soloing one as super-buffed-man-I-can-conquer-all. We used to HAVE to wear bone armor, there wasn't anything else yet. A scout blaster was the cooooolest weapon ever! Docs were needed desperately in all med centers for HEALING. Not buff bots. Just something to think about

Absolutely. Ask anyone that's been around since the beginning and they will tell you that back then was the most fun they've had in this game. It was funbefore people realized you could make more money in a solo group when people used to actually form hunting groups and go hunting. We used tactics. The CH would send in a pet to 'pop' the lair and get some creatures to come out and then the melee professions would run up and start bashing the creatures while the ranged professions would get in their ideal range and kneel or lay down for better accuracy and start shooting. The combat medic would be throwing area heals whenever anyone needed them and helping out with an occasional poison here and there. We would harvest hide and meat for the armorsmith and doctor. Nobody had buffs. We ran everywhere we went. And it was a lot of fun!

Capping buffs will not ruin the game. It will save it. Ask the veterans and they'll tell you that buffs have ruined the game.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

As far as this goes, instead of a hard cap, they'll probably just scale them back. So the buff that would give you 2000 will give you 1000. You'd still need to use good materials to make it, but it would just be much less. It's silly how indestructible buffs makeus against most mobs the way it is now.

But, yeah... It's all rumor at this point, like you said, so just sign up for the Combat Upgrade Beta and keep your eyes out for the discussions and give your feedback then.

I was in the game at launch as well. I did experience some of what you did, and it was fun. I left after a month as I truly hated walking everywhere. I came back when mounts and vehicles came into the game. Ive been hereever since. Lets keep in mind that many of those mobs, particularly the NPC's are a lot harder now too. Try getting anywhere in the Geo caves or the DWB or the Vette without buffs. They have now become an intregal part of the game. Take them away or make the cap (if there is one) to low and a significant amount of content will not be available to us. Thats assuming that current mobs remain unchanged as well. We also have to keep in mind that players populations have dropped as well. Single player content must remain viable to some degree. I dont envy the task that lays ahead for the DEV's. Im just hoping that they dont take the pendulum and swing it back to far in the opposite direction.
