The sheer magnitude of this disaster won't be known for weeks, possibly months. Watching the news coverage left me feeling sad and helpless, and I had to turn the TV off. Unfortunately forthehundreds of thousands of people that are left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.. they can't simply 'turn it off'. I still find myself unable to fathom the scope of this... the only thing I know is that I hope to never see something like this happen ever again.
It made me appreciate what I have a little more, and I certainly have realized the many blessings that I have. I hugged my 20 month-old son a little tighter, and have learned to cherish every moment with my family.

first, let us give thanks to God for welcoming those lost to us into the Gates of Heaven, where they will never know suffering again. i pray for strength for those left behind, who have to pick up the pieces of shattered lives and families, and for them to remember that in times such as this, our Heavenly Father is always present. and i pray for blessings for the very thoughtful individuals who started and replied to this post. it warms my heart to see so many caring people come out of the woodwork. i'm guilty of forgetting how many good people are in this world. thank you for reminding me. God bless the victims of this tragedy, those who have offered and continue their support (monetary, physically, or spiritually), and all of you.

My dad is a member of FEMA. When we saw the news where it was just 2,000, he told me to expect a minimum of 30,000. I wish it was only 30,000 instead of today's 125,000.

This tragedy is on an apocolyptic scale for much of the region. Despite my savage and uncompromising nature sometimesin SWG gameplay I am actually a kindergarten teacher in Thailand. My great fear is that currently my school is on holidays over Christmas and New Year and many of my little 5 y.o. kiddies would have gone to the beach and coastal areas with their families along with a number of our teachers. I am dreading going back to school due to the fear that some of them are lost. My wifes family (Thai) escaped any injuryfor whichI am so thankful for but so many didnt. I mourn their loss and that of all peoples in the Indian Ocean region.
Spare them a thought....
