I have to agree, your armor designer has a serious thing for the flaired out helmet look like in RIS. No need to bring it into the rebel armor as well. Interesting armor is one thing, but lets keep it Star Wars and not some anime fan's sick armor dream -- diverisfy!!!!
Actually, as pointed out by someone else (and I never saw the link to the idea untill someone pointed out!), the battle armor for rebels, helmet...looks allot like the clam helmet worn by the rebel troopers from ANH.

There is actually no precedent for Rebel Armor in the Canon and very very little in the EU. We did quite a bit of research and none of the EU rebel armor was anywhere near as cool as the Imperial armor so we worked with LucasArts to get the new armor approved.
This new Rebel Armor is canon now
Just one thing TH, I also agree that the new Rebel armour is a bit "nasty" but understand there is no "canon" (as far as the films go) Rebel armour. However...
What if an armour option was the uniform worn on the Tantative IV? I know technically it's not armour, but is there any reason why it couldn't have armour values given to it? I'd much rather suspend my disbelief (that clothes offer protection) and fight players who look like things from the movies.
For all we know, that uniform could have a built in shield thus providing protection. Armour does not necessarily have to look like armour all the time - and I think a lot of players would be willing to accept "canonical clothes" offering protection if it leads to a better feeling of Star Warsyness.
Plus this would then lend itself to other clothing such as Imp Uniforms, Imperial Guards and so forth.
Just because it offers protection, doesn't mean it has to look like armour. Your "get-out-clause" is simple - all these outfits have "hidden PSG's" in.

Um... the Rebel Battle Armor helmet does look inspired by the helmet worn in ANH if you look closely. So I'd say they did take into account the uniforms worn by Rebels in the movies. And you know what else? I bet you could get a tailor to make you pretty much the exact uniform the Rebels wore on the Tantive V if you wanted to. I doubt any armor they wouldwear would look exactly like their uniforms. I mean, the Imperial's armor looks nothing like their uniforms, does it?

The Rebels did not wear any armor in any Star Wars movie.
And we can kiss-off all Starwarseyness as a result?
At least they COULD have taken into account the uniforms the Rebels used in the movies.
The Rebel armor they have looks BETTER than the Imps ST armor. Thats Starwarsey?
True, but nobody would wear them on the battlefields. Which is the problem. Just as imperials don't use Stormtrooper armor now, because Composite is better. This also kills immersion!
Charactersthat are in a galactic civil war faction are encouraged to wear things that make the game look and feel more like the movies rather than enforcing some fictional stuff that came out of the developers creative mind.
What bad would it do to have more padded versions of thething rebel troopers worein the movies and make them work like armor? Nobody will go into battle in simple clothing when the opposition is armored from heat to toe in this game as they would be decimated quite quickly.
Also, factional armor should be the best, so people would be encouraged to wear it, but with the greater risk of being overt.
For me it is important to make the game feel much more like Star Wars, and authentic clothing/armor, items, models andsuch would be a big step towards it. The introduction of new armor is a great way to do this, but right now it looks like the devs blew it.
With this said, the rebel armor in the Friday feature are simply counterproductive to the Star Wars look and feel of the game and will turn many Star Wars fans off.

i think one of the things that you guys really missed the point of everything that any rebel ever wore in the movies, is that you could see thier faces. the only people on the imperial side that you saw were the officers. everyone else, all the storm troopers, looked exactly like the last one you killed. i think it just made it so that when you saw a rebel die, you saw a person dieing. Not just a body in a plastic shell.
