Seeing as it is going to be (at least we are 99% sure) arcade like in nature I doubt we will have interiors that you can walk around in.

Maybe to make up for it they could use the current themepark idea that we currently have, using for instance an ISD as a dungeon of sorts that would use current game mechanics. Once you complete the quest/dungeon you load back into your XWing/Tie and off you go, for more twitchy goodness.

1. Ships (Interior Enviroment is a Must)

Customization (Color, Name, Weapons, Shields, Hyperdrive)

Building (Involve many Crafting Professions)

Experimentation (Use it in Building Components, Weapons, Deflector Shields)

Life Like Damage (Hopefully as realistic as Possible) (Take damage where hit)

Droid Intergration (Auto Pilot maybe?New Navigation Module for droids?)

2. Space Stations (Also a Must Have)

Docking Bays (No putting your ship in your poket)

Faction Specific (Mostly Imperial of Course)

Random Searches (Imperial Crackdown)

All the comforts of an NPC City (Pilot Bars, Medical Centers, Faction Missions, Garages)

Realistic Damage (See Above)

3. Space (Total Flight Freedom)

Seemless Flight Transition (Take off from Tattooine and Soar into Space)*No Loading Screen*

POI's (I would love to find that Large Creature in the Astroid)

Diffrent types of Space Enviroments (Astroid Fields, Ice Fields, Gas, Exploding stars?)

4. Planatary Flight

Weapon FireAnywhere(Limit this *no XP for Kills**Could be a Grief tool*)

(Also have NPC ships to have to deal with if you start blasting at a city)

5. Planets

Hoth (Allowfaction bases to be built there)

6. Upgrades to Current System

New Animations (When I salute with rifle in hand, I don't smack myself, I prop it on my shoulder and salute)

Droid Changes (PC to Droid, Droid to PC Conversations) *A Definate Challange*

A City Message Board or City Chat (We'll have that before SE im sure)

Anything I missed is probably already in this thread so ill let you guys think of somemore. Later

Ok, here's my third go around on this thread....

About hyperspace.... The way to incorperate hyperspace into the game would to be adding it to the piloting skill (see my first post) and work hyperspace the same way that exploration works for scouts (i.e. you'll be able to jump for a limited time which would increase with your skill level). Why do it this way, well if you were to incorperate hyperspace in the traditional way than everyone would turn chicken at the first sight of a Star Destoryer. The jump itself would be limited in distance (same reason). Here's an example:

An X-wing is on it's way in real space to a nearbyspace station when suddenly a StarDestoryer pops in out of nowhere. Under the traditionalmethod, the x-wing would pop into hyperspace and be gone..end of encounter (how boring). Under my method, you turn your x-wing around and hit the hyperspace with the star destoryer still tracking you. After about a minunte, your hyperspace wears out (needs to recharge...whatever). In the meantime that Star Destoryer still might be tracking you so then it's time to do some of that pilot stuff (i.e. fly into an asteroid field). This will make space more exciting and make people think twice about soloing other ships or dong hit-and-run missions.

Until next time....

I like that hyperspace wait or charge time concept. Something along those lines would be with a pilot skill would be how fast you can go to hyperspace. If you recall in EP IV where Han had to evade the Imperial Patrol Destroyers above Tatoonine.

"It looks like an Imperial cruiser. Our passengers must be hotter than I thought. Try and hold them off. Angle the deflector shield while I make the calculations for the jump to light speed."

"Traveling through hyperspace isn't like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?"

So depending on your pilot skill you would be able to get coordinates from your ship's Nav computer faster with higher levels. So for example the XvT template of hitting "H" for hyperspace allowed you to jump almost instantly where as when you hit the "Hyperspace Key" a timer starts for your calculations to go to Hyperspace. When the timer finishes you automatically jump. Also an abort option would be good too.

Now there is another school of thought for this taking X-Wing Alliance as an example. In this scenerio you have to reach a hyperbouy to make the jump from there it would take "x" amont of time to make the jump. For this option a timer could be started prior to reaching the bouy thus when the calculations are complete you can fly to the bouy and jump. This in effect could allow for blockading by Imperial NPC ships or PC for that matter or at least providing for a difficult escape for rebels or anyone else not in line with the Empire. Giving great opportunities for blockade running.

Good post and I agree will all but what I crossed out. You're mixing the SE with the orgional game and as stated before that would destroy any reason for pruchasing the expansion. And we also noted somewhere that the lag planet to ship to space transitions and space on a hard drive this would take. Hate if I poped any bubbles but great ideas otherwise. (great ideas altogther just not possible)

Morda, your post sparked something in the back of my mind. As a BH I would love to customize my ship to the extent of slave 1... Muahahahahahaha....

I think many of you are going to be very upset and let down when SE comes out and doesn't live up to the dreams you want.. There will be NO ship interiors to walk around in.. It will be just like we have now with either a 1st person view or 3rd person view.. There might be spacedocks, but I bet they will be very plain and bland just like every other buildings interior.. Seen one spaceport, seen them all.. In fact I bet it may be much like Earth & Beyond is..

Combat fighting will most likely be a bear as it is currently shown at E3 to be twitch control.. You think lag is bad now? wait till you think you have your target in the crosshairs and come to find out that lag makes you miss 90% as that target turns around and whipes the galaxy with you, because he has a faster computer and ISP..... lmao

OH, it's going to look like great eye candy and promises, but in the end it will be bugged and more unbalanced then the current game.. but I won't be around to say "I told you so".. Good Luck..

I don't know about you guys, but I wanna be the first kid on my block to find the Katana Fleet.

Muahaha.

Anyhoo, I like the idea of both the XvT and the Earth and Beyond flight models. I was a master in a TIE Fighter on XvT Multiplayer (Member in good standing of the TIE Fighter Alliance). I'd personally love to see that model come into play. I think though that the EnB model would kill it for ship to ship pvp. If it's all just skill rolls, a TIE would never have a chance against an X-Wing. But in a skilled pilots hands....w00t. TIE's tearin it up.

Guild Starships would be awesome. It could come under attack, everyone runs to the fighters, people man turbolaser batteries, shweet.

Although I doubt anything player controlled would make it much past medium size. Just imagine some idiot named "Uber Gankmeister" with an ImpStar Deuce. Or even an Interdictor, imagine the grief. I just hope my ship isn't as easy to take out as an SSD. Couple of shots to the shield generator and then some idiot drives his A-Wing into the bridge (I mean, come on. Auxilary flight controls, redundant systems, secondary command decks, sheesh. And remember, the only time in XvT you could take out the shield generators without FIRST taking down the shields was with the difficulty on easy.)

Just gimme my TIE Fighter no one gets hurt. Except the Rebs, they're toast.

Personally I would love to see many different, fully customisable ships. It would be great if we were able to walk around on the ships in flight,

I support this concept especialy with star destroyers & capitol ships as well as cargo ships while fighters would definitely be a cockpit only.

and if the flight actually took some time. In order for this to happen though, the planetary transports would also have to take time, and we should also walk around on them as well. This way, a really good pilot could take much less time getting somewhere than the transport, or vice versa.

I would also love to see huge spaceports where docked ships are persistantly shown (like in ANH, the way there are many different docking spaces and you have to walk to your ship). This would provide a huge element of realism to the game that I think is currently lacking.

This paragraph ties into two realms of game design and they are graphic immersion and game functionality.

For example walking a round a ship as if you are really inthe ship- THIS IS THE MAKE IT OR BREAK it PLAYABILITY OFTHE SPACE EXP PACK.

I just wanted to add that -player cities built on asteroids would be amazing! J Allen you now have the chance to make this game more amazing than ever....good luck. This is art and creativity. There should be no limits to dreaming and reality. Good luck.

Cronus aren't you being too pessimistic? I say just wait and see what Expansion is all about. Although in the back of my mind Im thinking if they are using the same tools that were used to make SWG then you definitely may have a point. I do not beleieve they are using the same tools, but what do I know.Dont minsintepret what I said. Im not knocking the tools just saying there are issues that everyone knows about, but thats the nature of the beast.

Lord E - You posted a MMORPG gamers dream with some ofyour ideas. Seamless outerspace travel between planets I dont see happening. It would be nice though if it could be seamless for planets that are close to each like the way you can currentlytravel tocities on the same planet. For distant planets you will have to jump. Jumping ie Hyperspace negates seamless travel-well sort of.

Hear is something that I just thought of that has not been mentioned or has it. Actually some of this was probably mentioned.I hope developers add dead space to expansion. What do I mean by that? I mean the unknown regions and borders of space. The areas that have not been explored. What could you find there? Hidden space pirate bases in space. Abandoned ghost ships that have horror waiting aboard not to mention loot. Im sure there would be plenty of content to add to dead space or unexplored regions.

Silent H ..yes- I like yout take on hyper space. Thats kind of how I envisioned it. You cant just jump and run at the meresite of trouble. Perhaps skill modifiers should be factor to greatly reduce prep jump time. There are other factors to take into consideration: What condition is your ship in? How far are you away fromthe planets gravitational pull..so forth and so on.

Since I touched on planets I hope developers will at least allowus toget a nice sized view of the planet from w/in the cockpit as we approach the planet and get closer. I hope you know what I mean by that.
