Well I played this afternoon with a guy who was newer then me and we kinda figured soem stuff out (like playing with someonme else is easier and funner) I am a wookie and I just have a hard time killing things. I am on the server that starts with an A because it said it was reccomended.
I was wonderign how you find out which weapons are you rated for? Which should you buy, etc to make sure you can work them well.
Thx fellas.

you should have been here as a new player back before the helper droid....it was impossible. I actually quit the game after about 3 hours back then for @ 6 months and didnt pick it up again untill one weekend that I was home sick with a virus and was bored enough to give it a 2nd look. And now Ive been hooked/addicted to it for months.
some observations
This game is not for the impatient. It takes time to build your toon and find a direction to take. This isnt a instant gratification game like the standard blow up/kill all pc games. Plan on a couple of weeks to a month of just explorying and trying new things.
A simple way to make some money....not alot but It all helps in the beginning, is pick up the novice Scout and harvest all creature kills. Almost all harvested meat/bone/hide has some value to someone. Wait untill you have at least 500 units and then sell it for @ 2 credits per unit on the bazzarre.
A couple of ways of saving money. Get real familiar with your skill boxes if you go for a combat profession. Pay attention to what weapons you qualify for. DO NOT buy weapons and try to use them if you havent qualifyed for them yet. Alot of new players get caought by this one. Alot think if they can save up for some high stat weapon that this will help them fly threw the skilll trees only to find that they cant use the weapon they blew all there money on, cause they arent qualifyed to use it anyway.
When you need to buy new weapons watch the bazzares closely for used and inexpensive weapons. Be careful about the use left stats. There area lot of real idiots out there that take advantage of the newer players by selling "0 uses left" or close to it on the bazzares. I see this everyday. Dont buy anything that dosent have at least half of its available use left.
You need to pickup any novice skill boxes from npc trainers. After that just find players that can train you for free when you qualify for the skill tree boxes. Most players dont mind and need the ap points but again, be patient. Dont just expect players to drop everything and come find you in the wilderness just to give you training. I get this all the time. I personally think its rude for someone to send me a tell demanding that I come and find them and train them. If you need training go to the busier starports, med centers, bazzarres and look for players with "App whatever skill" or "Master whatever skill" that you need traning in and ask them if they will train you. Dont pay for this, some will ask for credits, but dont pay, find somene else. Training from a player will cost XP but thats normal and the same if you buy training from a npc. Only with npc's it tells you the financial cost of training which you pay along with the xp loss for the box. Not every player can train you either. A Master Swordsman may not be able to train you for Marksman if they dont hold the skills themselves. Thats another reason to look for the same profession as yourself for training.
If your in the right place at the right time, sometimes you can get payed for your training. I myself have found that in my need to master a profession and short on the AP selling my training to others. To master a profession a player needs the Apprentice Points that can only be got from training others. Like myself, there are alot of us that will spam "I will pay you to train you" at the starports or in front of the appropriate npc trainer. This is easier and quicker than just randomly training.
Watch for "Helpers". These are the more patient people in the game. Some of these helpers will give you money of basic neccesities or maybe some looted weapons you can sell to make money. Dont beg. This is very rude. Most players will put beggars onto there ignore list.
Possibly look for a guild to get involved with. This can help you a ton If you get into a good guild. Including myself, alot of players think that they can just play the game solo, especially when brand new. This works for a while, but running solo does limit you after a while. I changed my tune on this after getting involved in a guild myself. Look for a guild thats active in its own town. You dont want to get involved with a guild that has the majority of its active members running uber missions on Dathmir. Missions that at the moment are over your head and will make you nothing but dead.
Good luck

Furious,
Sounds like you might need a guild to help you out. There you can find
players that would help you with your skills, kind of take you under
their wings. I'm sure there are plenty on your server looking for new
members. Its a nice place to meet people, get some help, and make new
friends!

I just started too and I knowyou feel! Ifyou have completed all the missionsyour R2 unit is asking you to do you should have a vehicle rental device in your inventory. You can use it to call a speeder for 5 times so you don't have to run long distances. Also you will receive a travel voucher to use a shuttle or starship to fly to different planets.
It sounds like you are a brawler, Get a second profesion, go to a npc trainer of the profession you like to learn it will cost you 100c but its worth it.
Do some rpg, talk to other players and tell them you are new in town. There are so many players who are willing to help out a newbie.
Try to find other players who are new too and group up with them, you can go on missions together and help each other out.

With exception of the DWB and the 'revamped' Corvette, 98% of the game is too easy. I'm feeling lazy and don't feel like elaborating.

To get starting money while also earning XP as a new player, I'd recommend that you get novice scout. You can harvest milk/meat/bone/hide and sell it on the bazaar for decent cash. Learn the importance of the stats and price your stuff accordingly if you want it to move. Also, check out your server's trade forum to find out what resources are in demand. As a new player you won't be able to hit the high level planets, but lesser womprat hide is going for 50cpu you can make yourself a decent buck. Unless you have friends that can hook you up, I wouldn't plan on using buffs/food at this point (considering the expense side of things).
Another option is to kill the low-level aggressive NPCs outside of places like Tyrena and Coronet. The item loot usually blows, but you might get some loot kit parts that you can sell and you'll at least loot some credits. It can add up pretty quickly. If you start getting beat on too hard you can always run into the city.
Seeing 1-2 hits for a kill thing can get frustrating, even as an experienced player. It might take me 10 minutes to kill something as a CH that it takes my TKM friend about 10 seconds. However, the strategy and challenge are what make it fun for me.
I'd recommend getting novice in every profession and just trying things out. You might unexpectedly discover that you really enjoy something you wouldn't normally have tried. For the first month or so I was a totally self-sufficient jack of all trades - I made my own weapons, could heal my own wounds/battle fatigue, and so on. Gradually, I gave up the skills I found less interesting for those that I found more fun/suitable to my play style. Don't worry about leveling up so much at this point, just have fun. Believe me, you'll have plenty of time to grind later on...

Hang in there, you will get the hang of it. Before you know it, in a few weeks YOU will be the one giving advice to some other new player. Learning how to play the game at first is a lot of fun, and like most people have stated, there are many people out there who are willing to take you under their wing to help you get started in the right direction.

Have you tried the helper droid missions? Go to your datapad (ctrl-D), then the "Data" tab. You'll see a little green R2 unit. Click and hold on that to bring up the radial menu and pick "Call". Talk to it, it'll give you a list of the novice professions you've learned, and give you a series of missions that are pretty helpful learning the ropes. They also pay pretty well: credits, bonus xp, a limited-use speeder, shuttle tickets, etc.
As for navigation, turning on the waypoint monitor (ctrl-O for options, then "Misc", then check the box next to "Onscreen waypoint monitor") is a great help. It puts up a small box that lists your active waypoints and the direction to it relative to your camera viewpoint. If you don't have any active, you can right-click the box and pick one (including mission waypoints). You can also activate waypoints from the datapad -> Waypoints tab by double-clicking them.
There is a lot of challenge in the game just starting out, but it does get easier pretty quickly. Make sure you can use the new special attacks you learn with your pike boxes, the standard attack is pretty weak even with a decent weapon. Also try sticking to creatures with a "con" (the colored symbol next to the creature's name when you have it targeted) of blue, green, or white. Maybe yellow, but definitely not red. At least not until you get some better weapons, some armor, and get comfortable with the various buffs available (docs, food, spices, and entertainers).

Join a guild.
Almost every guild has at least one person (and usually more than that) willing to help beginners get a good start in the game.
And I do not mean just giving them free stuff, I mean showing them how to be successful.

Pick one profession, either the swords or the polearm and look for a master in that weapon. Ask them for tips and ideas as well. Most people will be willing to help you out. Also the forums here have very good guides to help in showing what to do to get the most from your time.
As a master pikeman I'll tell you that a metal pole is bad. Stick to your reinforced combat staff for awhile then move to a Vibro Lance. The Long Vibro Axe does more damage but your accuracy with it will be bad until you further Pikeman. For skill tree advance when you hit novice pikeman go up speed first. Speed will be your friend. Then do your area attacks tree.
If you're on Corbantis give me a /tell I'll help ya out.

Also, don't participate in PvP just yet...
I would suggest making also a Money toon, such as a Teras Kasi who can easily provide funds/
