TH,

I think you accidentally posted the wrong thing. This is the guide that has been stickied in the BE forums for a long time. If you could go ahead and post whatyou said you and the dev that works on BE's have been working on for weeks, that would be really great.

Thanks.

As posted by Q-3P0:

"

BohoJones, the BE guide was not dropped in favor of any other feature. It requires more work and the time of certain designers, who have had very little free time. Ask Thunderheart, I have been harping on about how we need to put up that guide every week. I apologize to you that it is taking so long. All I can say is that it is one of the highest priority Friday Features in my mind and it is finallyprogressing.

So, what 'time of certain designers' was put into this? It wasn't even proof read since the typos of the orgininal in the BE forum are still there.

So, my question again is, where is the developer writen BE guide we were promised, because this is not it.

I think many BE's will consider this a promise still unfulfilled.

I'm throwing my voice in with the other BEs who are ... disappointed ... with this effort. It looks like you, Thunderheart, or one of your flunkies just read the stickied posts in the Bio-Eng forum, reworded a bit for the first half, then cut'n'pasted the second half verbatim.

Oh, how's the work going on getting either skill tapes to work as the feature said, or correcting the feature to reflect how skill tapes work?

As if we needed more proof the community relations dept needs some serious help.

Hello Kids, this week's Friday Secret Word is "Plagiarism".

Still not sure what it means? Click here for an example, and here is the original work.

EDIT: Updated the sample links. It was pretty easy to find the content because the guide copied the FAQ word by word

I feel compelled to post again now that I have time to express my deepest disgust.

This so called advanced guide that you guys have been working soooo hard on for months has been cut and paste from the BE forums, reformatted and pictures added - you didnt even take the time to remove the spelling/typing errors, repeated sentences and out of date information.

This truely is appalling - exactly what were you doing all these months? Perhaps you were actually trying to find an active ranger to pose for the pretty picture

First, the plusses:

Thank you for posting the guide. As someone with experience both in technical writing and web development, I know that what you have there likely did take a fair amount of work. While the three sections on cloning (Mirrl's guide) were indeed pasted in, all the rest looks written from scratch and explains things fairly well, barring a number of typos and misused homonyms. I expect that it will serve very well for new BEs and people considering going into the profession, and will save them from a fair amount of pestering BEs in game about how it all works.

Now, the minuses:

As others have said, virtually nothing mentioned there is news to established BEs, and I think a number of us were hoping that the guide would answer some of our longstanding questions, such as exactly what determines Creature Level, and so on. It occurs to me that part of the problem may be that BEs expected a technical manual, while your whole intent for the guide was to make it a primer for the wider playerbase. Be that as it may, I still think that it is fair for us to have expected you to at least have run the draft by the programmers who coded Bio-engineering, so they could throw some editorial notes into your pasted version of Mirrl's cloning guide. Just to have a few [ed. yes, that's correct] additions here and there would have been great, along with some proofreading for outdated items and typos.

Thank you for your work on it. I'm sure it will bring some new attention to our profession, and be useful to new and aspiring BEs. In the meantime, we'll keep funneling our questions and issues through our dedicated correspondent.

Stormkraken, it's not plagiarism if you give credit to the original author, which he did at the top of the "Chapter 8" page, where Mirrl's guide starts. I still agree that it should have had some original input from the BE programmers, but it's not plagiarism.

This is a joke, right?

The BE community has been begging for MORE information, not a glossed over rehash of the guides WE developed! I can't believe you guys have the gall to release this.... this... reformatted ripoff of our FAQ.

This one really bothers me.

Make you wonder who TF is in charge of the Quality Assurance at this particular SOE joint?

Ididn't expect tosee this kind of work ethics from a grand developer like SOE, but there is a first time for everything right?

Gosh, I mean it's a good things nowthe forums areopen topublic, I am sure a few game sites wouldn't mind linking the Friday Feature to the BE forum FAQ to get a few laughsfor their readership.

"Game DeveloperCut-n-Pastefrom Community FAQ as Official Gaming Guide"

This might be the first time in MMORPG history where the developer actually had to rely on FAQ generated from the player community to create an officialgaming guide... The trouble is that therewas no effort made to correct grammatical errors and spelling mistakes from the FAQ, and the content is transcribed to the official Friday Feature word by word. Also included in the FAQ were outdated information that the developer somehow managed to include in the official Guide as well, apparently unaware of the changes in their own game.

Crap, double posted. Might as well make use of it.

You are right, they did give credit to Mirrl. But then again, by using this forum, we agree thatall the content found within this site already belong to that of SOE. To my knowledge SOE did not ask Mirrl's permission to user her material (again, even if they did, it would be just a gesture because her guide is already property of SOE.)

Legally, SOE did nothing wrong because they own everything that's posted within the SWG forum.

Quality-wise, SOE just sunk about as low as a game developer can go with this Friday Feature.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...

Somebody set up us the BE FAQ.

All your post are belong to us.
