Thread: FYI: There is an 8 max character limit

There's a 1 char per server limit because this is the only game to have building lots that mean something. If you could have 2, or 10 per server without paying anything (thats they only thing stopping people) then you could have people with a fleet of harvester lots mules.

Which would kill the resource economy.

You'd have to have a pretty short attention span to need 50 characters. WOW's player base must be thrilled. Such a simplistic game isn't imbalanced by it, I'm sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't WoW like DAoC where you can buy most of the stuff you need from NPC's and you don't have to buy stuff from crafters?

You can't have that many characters here because it would kill the economy because you would be able to be every profession and you wouldn't need to buy anything from anyone because you can make it yourself. There would be no market for crafters because they wouldn't be able to sell anything. It would kill the game for people that do not want to be in combat because credit making would rely solely on missions becuase you can't make money crafting.

If SWG had NPC's that sold everything needed like DAoC was then having 10 characters would work but there isn't. Frankly, I'm glad there isn't. I like how the game economy is ruled by the players and not SOE. It's more immursive to me.

Very true...

However since you can unlock a second slot by becomming a padawan i dont see why the devs cant design a (difficult) quest to unlock a second slot for those who do not want to be a jedi. A second (earned)character per account would not kill the economy.

That would be acceptable.

As an above post said, if you were to give everyone 2 or more slots per server, there would be double the harvestors and factories on the ground then there are now. Think of the lag and how much more factory dodging you would have to do then. It would be crazy. If it were a REALLY long, drawn out quest, then yes, it would be acceptable, if it were something everyone could easily do then no.

A real easy way to implement this and it would be very hard to do would be that you have to have every single badge, including professions, quests including imp and reb, poi, everything. That would make it very hard but still doable.

In the early days of the game it was possible to have two characters to a server without unlocking your fs slot. This is tue because I had 2 characters at one time with one account. I believe they changed this last December.

SOE doesnt learn from other games like the W word that allow you 8 chars per server and unlimited servers

Doesn't learn cos it wouldn't work in this system.

I really don't get what the hard on with WoW is, its got a few nice features, but on the whole is a very shallow game, and no where near the fun of this game.

Plus it has thee worst graphics ever.

But you aren't considering the fact that this is much more complex game with much more to consider when it comes to multiple characters. If everyone could have 3 or 4 characters they would be their own armorsmith, weaponsmith, shipwright, chef, etc. And they would have too many lots. There are a lot of reasons it is like it is.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

The reason for one char per server is that there is no real need for another. WoW has multiple chars per server because, from what I understand, you create a character and its classes or professions or whatever are permanent. In this system, you can easily change your character from one profession to another. So why have multiple characters? Especially considering the other points of the economy and things like that.

But I'm not going to say that it wouldn't be nice to have a second character. I betcha docs would be hurtin, since if people got 2 characters, they could make one a doc to buff the other and never have to buy buffs or wait in a line.

The other problem with multiple characters would be that one player could make his own city. We don't need that.

Well, the way it is now the second slot shares 10 lots with the Jedi, so it wouldn't really be a problem.

That's not true. It was never that way from the beginning. Maybe you had characters on two different servers?
