I felt kind of stupid when I realised where he was too - the thing is, some of the NPCs do actually despawn, and get upset by things like combat etc, which is why I was so quick to reset the trial and try again.. oh well

Make sure that you DO NOT draw agro when you're in the same city as the last NPC (Grizzo or whatever). If you do he'll usually disappear. This happened to me, there were Thugs in Kor Vella when I went to return to him. I had -5000 Thug faction so I got agro'd and Grizzo went *POOF*

i really hope you mean you reset that quest around 36 times and not that you reset the whole series of quests 36 times...

lol yeah the quests, I should of known when the first one was bugged I was in for a long ride. The musician was by far the worse though, everytime I tried to take the ring back to Grizzlo he would despawn.
