You know, I've been a fan of Lucas Arts games forawhile, and it has always seemed to me that they don't really do anything new, they just do it better (argue about that some other time, I'm using 'better' VERY liberally).

Point is, I don't expect to see anything completely new with the space expansion. Personally, I expect it to be more like Earth & Beyond, myself. I mean, sure, I WANT it to be like X-Wing Alliance, or any of the other sim games. But I don't think that'll make much sense. Those weren't MMORPG engines. I couldn't even imagine trying to BEGIN to balance gameplay in an enviroment like X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter. Freelancer would be cool, and don't knock the mouse control until you've tried it. I didn't think I'd like giving up my joystick, but it worked perfectly for that enviroment. But as broad as the Freelancer multiplayer could be, it still didn't handle anywhere near as many people as Galaxies has to.

My money is on a E&B clone. But, like I said, better.

I watched the E3 video a few weeks back and it looks just like Freelancer done SW style. Mouse controlled (someone on the video asks Raph, I think, and he answers 'use a mouse').. I'd prefer it be like one of the X-Wing games, but if you think about how much database space that would take, I can understand the 'Freelancer' style. (I actually liked Freelancer, so I'm good either way..)

I haven't seen the E3 video(s) yet (what's the URL?)- however I was just going to mention that my money would be on an E&B style of space travel. Kinda cool...

Make sure that if you're flying an X-Wing that you're always attackable by TIE Fighters. There shouldn't be any 'covert' X-Wings everywhere.

Why spend 3 years working on a system of planets only to add a space combat sim that will take people away from them? I highly doubt the space expansion will be all eveybody hopes it will be. After all.. the game its self isn't.

Also, CorSec (or maybe it was just Corran Horn, I'm not sure) was using X-Wings, and they are Empire affiliated at this time.

Hmm.. itd be really cool to have the controls like x-wing vs tie fighter.. you know why? because itd take actualy skill to do lol, you cant be cheap, you cant powerlevel, and you cant get "uber" unless you have craploads of money for ship upgrades (asuming the have them) i think itd make it more.. i duno.. ROLEPLAYING lol.. i mean, your actually teh person flying, and your actually gaining the skills yourself, not spamming your f10 hotkey hehe... will the devs do that though? no they wont, because some ppl will WHINE about not being good, and saying how unfair it is... soooo they either need to make ANOTHER x-wing game (which ive been holding my breath for multiple years for lol) or throw this EXTREMLY fun game engine into the expansions.. and uh, yall have the url for the movies? lol

In the Star Wars continuity, there were some privately owned X-Wings. Don't think the empire was renting out TIE Fighters, though!

um...no... it's not completely twitch based. It IS twitchy, but it will also relate to your characters skill.

Freelancer was cool, but I actually preferred the control setup for Tachyon: the fringe... if you haven't played that game, it's worth it just for the Bruce Campbell voice work.. one thing I liked in that game was the way you could use inertia to keep travelling in one direction while turning your ship to face another direction... very realistic for space combat and a really cool move once you perfect it.
