Thread: Should I rejoin Star Wars Galaxies?

Actually, I did rejoin for the 10 free days, and have played for a couple of those. Interestingly, my old character is still there, so I didn't have to start all over, which was good, but the biggest difference has been a veteran player named Gerrade Gofe (hope it's ok to give out a name) who out of nowhere gave me 20,000 credits and took me around, hunting and scouting, plus he gave me some new and much better weapons and armour, and showed me around his player-created city on Rori. It was a great experience, and exactly what I'd been hoping for at the beginning. I guess what really makes a difference is that now there are vets that can help out new folk, and I kind of regret that I didn't stay on from the beginning to become one. I think I've decided to stay, based on this experience (we agreed to meet again tomorrow), and if we can have some greater interactions I will definitely be staying. I'm looking forward to contributing to the game, and hopefully that player association, and maybe with JTL the game will really be special.

As for those quests, there was simply no one there at the waypoint, or even nearby, so I assume that was a bug. No big deal, I'll try again.

Ok, fair enough. What are the major issues with the game that make it so bad? A serious question, not sarcasm.

I'm not having a pop at people complaining about bugs, but it makes me wonder what's special about my PC set up/copy of the game. I mean, I encounter the odd "glitch" such as warping or items vanishing/re-appearing, but in all honesty, I think I've only ever encountered one serious bug (an item vanished from my inventory, but after speaking at great length with the CSRs it was returned to me).

Granted, were this a PS2 game, Sony wouldn't have given permission for it to be pubished due to the many glitches/niggles in it, but is the game really that bug ridden? I don't think so.

That's the part I wondered about. I haven't played for very long (maybe 2 or 2 and a half weeks all told including at the launch of the game last year) and in that time the only real bugs I encountered were the two Rebel quests I mentioned and that's it. Oh, and last night my game crashed once, but I logged back in and everything was fine. I'm not arguing that there are no problems, because with my limited time in the game I probably just haven't come across them yet, but I'm really curious now to hear what they are before I get too interested in re-joining.

The Bottom Line is this. It costs you .50 cents a day, if you enjoy star wars, start playing again. The Game is just as broken as ever though, and even if a dev came into this post, They really couldnt deny it

Ranger is a great role playing profession. I used to have a alt on bria i think it was, i play on ahazi normally. I would go around camping and fishing enjoying the landscape and chatting with other players. I think i used to have Rifleman, but later switched to swordsmen to get hides and meat

This game is like life .. your happiness in regards to it is highly dependent upon your expectations. If you come into it with these high expectations (as most people have) you stand a greater risk of being dissapointed. Truth is this is a wonderful game, with lots of great players and content. Not everyone plays 10hrs a day and runs through all the game has to offer in a month, these people are truly the definition of insatiable and are likely to quickly burn out on just about any game there is. Plus this is Star Wars, live and online ... you wont find another Star Wars game out there like it.

Yes there are bugs, but i dont know any piece of software with out them. The dev crew works harder than most people realize to get things fixed and running smoothly despite what most people think. Many people have no idea the amount of work and dedication that goes into developing and maintaining software such as this, its truly an immense operation.

I admire your convictions as a roleplayer, keep at it, youll find others like you out there. When i fists started i scoured the Net for guilds that were centered around roleplay and found many of them on Kettemoor as the server is described as the unnoficial RP server. Though i know other servers such as Valcyn have has some really cool player run events in the past. You can find RP guilds on just about every server, just as youll find AFK macro freaks and people who dont talk to anyone other than to spam sales and training requests. I just try to put them out of my mind and stay in character as much as possible. But we all need to remember this is a game and ther are many different play styles present at any given time.

Being mostly an optomist i would say go ahead and give it a try, things are getting better all the time. Sign up for another month or 2, get the JTL expansion and see what you can do. Find a good RP guild and get involved. Some people just need to be nudged in the right direction and then become great contributors to the wolrds. Unfortunately i cant recommend a good RP guild at the moment as ive been involved more deeply in PvP lately, but i would first consider Kettemoor and Valcyn as i mentioned. Do some research and see what other guilds are about. See what events they have run in the past and what theyre future plans are, and listen to other players advice on where the good RP is. Its out there i know, you just have to look harder to find it because they arent spamming the sky constantly. Good luck and have fun.

Oh and while im here ranting, i just want to reiterate to anyone whos listening the fact that, "We need a d.amn RP server!"

I've often found that, if no one is at the waypoint, run 200+ meters away and come back. The game will re-draw the location, and should restore the missing NPC.

Should you rejoin...? I say try new things...

Like, go to a project near your area and purchase "crack". Smoke the crack using prescribed methods you'll gather from crack whores who will offer you sex in exchange for buying them a rock. Get addicted. After your life is in complete shambles and ruined, then go to rehab and stay clean for like 6-12 months.

Then go back to the crack house and ask the crack whores "Should I rejoin you and smoke more crack"?

Then later, grind jedi...

Ok fair enough, butI think the post about getting what you are willing to give out of it is closest to my experience recently. I've met a couple of new people, who've offered me immense help, and the chance to join their guild. I think this is what will make the game interesting. As far as content is concerned, I can see that it's pretty weak, in the sense that there seems to be little of interest. I would have prefered a different set up involving more interaction with Star Wars-like characters (NPCs) who actually send you around the galaxy for more than fedex missions or whatever, but what can you do. So long as there is some social interaction, I'll be content. I just want to contribute to a larger community, so I'll keep at it for now and see how JTL works out.

well said, little has changed, same dumb quest, deliver, destroy, craft, explore lol. thats it! Kill, Craft, or Play Music/Dance/entertain. Those are your options as far as content.

But there are a lot of ways to do combat, lots of things to do as a crafter, same with any profession. If you don't like the game, why are you still here trying to make other people not play it?
