Hi, I had originally purchased SWG when it first came out last year. In the first two weeks, I took my newly designed scout out and started doing missions. I enjoyed it fora short time, doing some simple missions involving taking out wampa rats and whatever minor creatures while I improved my skills. I found, however, that I was finding it less and less enjoyable, since it seemed that everyone around me was busy /shouting out how they needed training in something or whatever and there was no roleplaying. So I let my account die and quit.
Since the powers that be have decided to offer 10 free days for all old accounts, I thought why not? So I re-installed the game and read up on the Jump to Lightspeed expansion coming out and now I'm curious. Obviously a lot has changed in the year that has passed. However, I am way, way behind the position of most other players. I have level 2 skills in a few areas (marksmanship and scouting), but I'm no expert in anything yet. My gear is pretty basic, I have very few credits and I have yet to really talk to anyone in-game (and in character).
So here's the question: should I rejoin SWG? Of course, no one cares whether I play or not, so I'm not really asking in that sense, but what I'm asking is what I think some old-accounters and new players might be thinking: is it worth it? Just to explain, here's what I would really like to do on SWG. I would love to join a group of players that actually role-play, that actually assume their in-game personalities and go with them. I would love to be their pilot, maybe acquire a YT-1300 or a Corellian Corvette eventually and fly them around. We could do missions together, bounty hunting or deliveries or resource-gathering, whatever. I am not too concerned with becoming a jedi, isnce it appears from what I've read on these forums that jedi aren't all that special. I'd prefer to help out the rebellion, but I would really love to just be part of a group that maybe starts their own city, and has some sort of organization and so on.
Essentially, what I'm saying is, how do I do this? I know there are ways to group up but I'll be damned if I can figure them out. And with the new expansion, will it be possible to act as a passenger ferry? Could I charge people a better rate than the starports and take them to different planets? That would be really interesting, since I could imagine advertising, and offering rates based on distance, level of demand, and danger invloved. I would love to become a smuggler, dodging Imperials and helping the Rebellion. So can anyone help me out here?
Sorry for the long ramble, I really want to love this game as much as I love the Star Wars universe, but I just can't see it yet. So does anyone know any good groups or guilds or whatever that want new members? I can't remember what server I'm on, but I'm even willing to create a new character if I can get into a good group and really develop in-character. And does anyone know about the possibilities of becoming a pilot that can ferry people around? I'd enjoy that, I think. Thanks in advance for any help offered, I know there are some great members out there.

Make the most of your 10 day freebie (that us full paying punters don't get :smileymad
and get really involved in everything, hunting, themeparks etc - make sure its what you want to do.
Then look through the Forums and find yourself a good role playing guild so that you can play in character. Farstar is a great server but i'm not familiar with the RPing guilds there.
Good luck and hopefully welcome back.

You should absolutely rejoin SWG. Its a really amazing game. The only thing hurting it is its dizzying unlimited potential. By that i mean there are Soooooo many different professions and aspects to the game that the devs cant possibly address everyones needs as fast as everyone would like. But thats expected. I been playing since the first beta, then day 1 when it went live and i havent lapsed once. I love this game, its a truly killer experience. 8)
But thats just my opinion of course

I am an old player who quit in April of this year. I enjoyed the game when I played it. And now that the new expansion is coming up, I turned my acct. back on (last week), but I'm beginning to regret it. I'm seeing the same old bugs, just in new ways. I feel like I'm still playing a beta test like I was in April. I really think the developers should be paying more attention to the current content rather than adding new content all the time. There are so many systems that are broken or malfunction frequently that need to be fixed. For example, a previous armor hole that was found early on in the game is still present. I only experienced it once before, but I found it again last night when I was attempting to kill a bounty. My stats were all buffed over 3,000 points, and my bounty pwned me in 6 seconds because of my armor hole.
This is just my point of view since you were asking for old-players opinions. I'm going to hang around for the expansion, but it had better be really special, or I'll be gone once again.

I noticed these some bugs too, which were what really caused me to let the account die. I started on Tatooine at Mos Eisley, and after a while I started wandering in the wilderness. I eventually happened on some Rebel settlement/base area and took a couple of missions for them. However, when I got to the waypoints and did what was asked, nothing happened. I kept at it, but nothing. I figured the missions were broken. Anyway, that was disappointing, and I don't want to join up again if there will be similar situations. But as for the other advice, thanks. Where would be a good place to look in the forums for a guild/group to join? That would go a long way to making up my mind.

What is this armor hole you speak of? What kind of armor?
I want to know so I don't get my butt whooped using it, heh.

If your only comming back for the ground game, I'd say dont bother. It's not gonna see any improvement until mid 05 at the earliest. I cant comment on JTL because of NDA.

It is all armor. Makes it so that it is the same as having no armor on in the place you were hit, when you really did.

There were not broken. You needed to talk to the NPC standing there. If there was absolutely nothing there, that is a bug, but has been fixed for ages.

Scule,
Just a warning to you if you decide to come back. You will most likely find that your old character no longer exists - Characters/accounts that had been inactive more than 6 months are regularly purged from the system. - You will probably have to create a new character.
As far as coming back - i say why not? You have 10 free days to check out all the changes (mounts, vehicles, player cities, and TONS of other things) and decide if you want to stay for a month.
Your other option is to come back and pay for a single month (you probably can't really see the differences in just 10 days), and by that time hopefully JTL will be out. Read up on any info you can find on it, and check out the screen shots - I'm not sure how much i can comment without crossing the NDA, but i'm pretty sure i can tell you that it's very cool! (just in case you couldn't figure that out from the screenshots).
Ultimately, it's your choice to stay, but why not use up the 10 free days so you can make an educated decision for yourself instead of relying on other's opinions of the current state of the game, as you will get some very differing answers.

I think that the bottom line is this: if you couldn't take it the first time you played and bothered to leave, you probably shouldn't play.

Now, there are bikes. There are vets willing to help out. There are lots of people, that can help you, or hunt with you. There is a lot of weapons and armor. Come back for the 10 days. Choose what seems interesting to you. Is it combat? Scouting? Medic? Crafting? I think you will like this game a lot if you give it a chance.
EDIT: Guilds, weapons, armor, and stuff like that is not the same on different servers. So my guild is not on any other server, unless someone copied it. (or we copied them)
Also, if you went on Shadowfire, I'd be glad to help you out ![]()

I'm going to have to agree with NonCant here, the game hasn't changed nearly enough to make it anything less than severely frustrating. Bug fixes + balances > random new content. Unfortunately, SOE has its priorities mixed up.
