Thread: The World is FLAT!!!
Some of the old greek philosophers not only came up ith the idea that the world was round, they also amnaged to pin down it's size pretty darn well (far better than anything in Columbus' days), I don't remember whom it was or what number he arrived at (about as good precision as simply saying 40000km I think it was), but I do remember that he used the difference in angle to the sun at it's zenith in two different places on the same day. And it wouldn't suprise me if even eatlier civilisations (sumerian, egyptian, and who knows what peoples down south of sahara or in south america) came to similar conclusions.
Oh yeah, and all battles always take place around poles, kind of like a play pen!
"Commence the invasion!"
(Trade Federationguy voice) "There has been a problem, we have not deployed the giant poles around 100x100 foot area of the invasion"
..a few quick things:
1) LOL (in a good way)
2) uhhh...whats a bibble...i havent read thatone yet...is it any good?
3) nerf the catolics!!!(hehe)
ps..i know i spelled wrong...its part of the fun.
(im just pokn fun take nothing to heart)
The game is also flat in some aspects but not in others. There is no altitude considered in the game (whether that is the z-axis or y-axis, I'm talking up on your screen).
BUT the 3-D distance comes into play ONLY in melee-range-related things (battle, looting, trading, chatting) on steep terrain. (Some creatures try to hone in on your 2-D position and still be a few meters away on the 2-D position. This will make them too high or too low if you are on steep terrain and too far away for them to hit you.)
This contour bug does not affect structures that you can stand on over flat terrain. Even though you can be in the trees at an Ewok village, the server considers you to be still on the ground and attackable at melee. Your client doesn't see the same however and won't let you try to attack melee. When up high, you actually have the disadvantage (being totally opposite of real life).
Things that are flying (rasps which are untargetable in melee unless you are in first person mode) are actually in "standing" mode and have a location set on the ground. (You can still hit them with melee.) The model is simply transposed upward to give the illusion of flying. (Notice that all flying creatures follow the exact contour of the map? Think of it like they have an invisible stand holding them up.)
Hope this helps with knowing what some of the bizarre rules of this game are (and the mechanics as to why -- though the player-logic still doesn't make a lot of sense).
But have you thought of this....
Not only is it flat, but its a perfect square.
