Thread: Tuesday Tips May 10th: Pass-Through Assisting

Cool.
Does Garva have to actually be in combat, or just have something targeted?
i.e. lets say Garva has a Darth Vador targeted but is wise enough not to have taken a shot at him ... so long as Gava is NOT in combat, could this pass through accidently cause me to attack Darth (lets say I hit shoot instead of heal by mistake)?

Is there any way we can get the UI upgraded to show a target info box under the current target box if a team member has a target selected. This would be a very nice addition to this feature and make this pass-through targetting much more useful (showing us target name, current status effects,HAM, and what-not).

No, it will not change your "lookat" target.

You have to be in combat and actively doing something; shooting at something, healing, etc.
Now, for the pass-through heals, if the mob is actively attacking someone in your group, the heal will pass through and heal whoever the creature or NPC has targeted.

The team definitely wants to enhance the UI to better reflect the pass-through targeting (as well as other things), but we don't have any information on "when" at the moment.
I am used to the /assist function in EQ…have not grouped much in SWG for obvious reasons…that will be changing and I am looking forward to the grouping.
Now onto my questions…is the assist function the same as from EQ1?
Meaning ok I target my tank and do /assist and my new target becomes the mob that my tank is targeting or does my dmg actually pass through the tank and I keep the tank targeted?
If it is the ladder…does the mob think the dmg is coming from the tank meaning there is zero chance of me stealing agro? (yuck if so!)
Also, if it is the ladder what happens if my tank switches mobs before the first one is dead? And what happens if the first one dies and the tank switches to another mob do we do the /assist again?
My tip is for people that want to solo pull…if there are two mobs next to each other and you only want one…root the one you don't want and then shoot the other that you do want to make sure it agros you and run like hell…get out of agro range of the rooted one while taking the other one with you…works most of the time.

Ah! That's what was changed from beta..
That actually helps, because in beta people would start attacking early while the Pass-through target was just tabbing around to select targets.
Say if Garva doesn't have an "auto-attack" selected and stops shooting, would we have to wait until he used another special attack before our pass-through shots would hit the target?

Could there be a way to highlight the pass-throught target? Maybe show his HAM over his head or show the target's name in a different color.

Is it possible to make it so all enemies attacking you will show their HAM bars like in the old system? In the old system you instantly knew what was aggroed to you as it had the HAM bar viewable above the creature/NPC, now I have to select each MOB individually and look at the icon next to the HAM to see if its flashing.
Often times while checking factories with my crafter I start getting attacked, but have no idea what is attacking me or what direction I should run in to get away. And with my combat character sometimes a sneaky ranged MOB will be wailing on me without me knowing it from behind a tree or something, and when I think I am safe and my target is just about to die, I get incapped by the guy I did not see and did not expect. Bringing back the floating HAM would help both of these problems.
I also miss how in the old system, when you tabbed around in combat or when you wanted to selected something other than the MOB attacking you, all you needed to do to go back to targetting the attacker was click on empty space. This was so handy when you were running away from a MOB and facing forward, with the MOB off-screen you could not TAB to it, but with a quick click of the mouse anyway on the screen, you could have it targeted without needing to turn around and bring it into view.
These kinds of shortcuts are still habit for me, and I miss them greatly in the CU.

Hmmm...this is a great tip, and I've been using this for awhile, but ....
Last time I did this I noticed that my "default" attack didn't pass through.
I had to keep clicking attacks the default attack would get the
"red box" thing so I would stop attacking...is this intended or a bug?
Cool tip. I tried to /assist a buddy the other day and was told the command was not a valid command. Now I know why. ![]()
Speaking of tips, could anyone tip me off as to whether or not we are still supposed to be able to declare and go from On Leave to Combatant and from Combatant to Special Forces by targeting and attacking an Enemy FactionNPC and Enemy Special Forces, repectively? Because we no longer can. I hope it is just an oversight / bug.

Yes just like in EQ2 (actually I played EQ2 a couple of days and found this feature quite quickly because of it). No more typing /assist or assigning keys to macros...

Yes, another fine idea from EQ2. Sigh.
That´s true about the heals, but this only works with bacta related heals, not with instant stimpacks (you can only heal yourself with the latter). I´m not exactly sure how the bacta heals work, because you sometimes heal yourself and you sometimes heal someone else in the group...it might have to do with who has the most damage...but I´m not sure. Some info on this would be nice.

wow that's actually very useful In the heat of battle it's hard to tell what mob is attacking who.
Wow the tiny details you put in this game that no one notices never ceases to amaze me(Unless they patched in this tip/feature in today's patch)
Its a great useful feature (that was there even in CU testing). I've also seen that in some cases if you ahve a mob targeted and hit your heal the Heal will land on the Mobs target.. (which could be you if it is attacking you)
