Thread: The Most Fun I've Ever Had As An Imperial

For the record, I am a corporal i the Rebel Faction. I think this is acceptable gameplay. Look at it this way, the rules of War are silly. A war is a war, if I am going to kill you in the open then I will kill you anywhere, even when you think you are going up against NPCs. But careful IMPs this goes both ways.

This is WAR not a Saddy-Hawkins dance, let's mix it up!

That is a really good idea. It is far more honorable to attack them if they are out fighting then it is to shoot them in the back at the mission terminals like the rebels do. Keep it up guys.

I also find nothing wrong with this, and I'm an overt rebel as well. They approached an imperial camp, intending to destroy it, but it had been reinforced. That's life.

What irritates me is imperials camping shuttleports, waiting for rebels to appear and killing them before they load up, since your avatar appears and is targetable before you have full control.

That's just lame.

It is really sad when a person can exploit a bug like this to grief players and brags about it...seems there is no morality anymore.....why isn't this guy banned?

I don't think Ckultgen was exploiting a bug. He waited there for the rebel to show up at the camp and capped him. No foul, in my opinion.

He never said he was camping shuttleports, but yes, that IS exploiting a bug and really needs to be fixed.

This happened to me once and the circumstances made it seem really friggin evil, but in theory I have nothing against protecting friendly faction bases like this. The only thing that ticked me off was that I couldn't see the PCs when I went to attack the base. I tabbed through the targets on top of a hill -staying out of their range to make sure they woiuld beeasily defeated. After finding only 4 blue targetable rebson the hill, I started firing. It was quite a surprise to see 4-5 reds come running over the hill, until I realized they were all PCs. I didn't stand a chance and was DBed before I could even count my attackers. I was kinda miffed for a bit. If I had been able to see them before I attacked the reb base or if it had been just one PC I wouldn't have felt quite as reamed. As a covert imp that isn't ready for PvP, I wasn't real pleased, but I don't consider this cheap or an exploit. I just learned a lesson that from now on I have to make sure I can see the reb base visually before attacking, so that I don't step into another nest of vipers.

You were an overt imperial when you did this correct?

If you were covert then tabbing wont show you opposite aligned overts. Heck, they dont even show up differently on your radar.

When I'm doing faction destroy I always go overt first so I'll be more properly alerted to the presence of my enemies, as opposed to being covert, getting a TEF, then getting jumped by overts who, until then, were blue on my radar.

There have been suggestions that because it is war, the rules should be thrown out. In RL, that is not even true. People who completely throw out the rule book during war are often tried and executed as war criminals after the war. Doing the right thingis never really optional. Eventually, there is a price to pay.

That said, no rule book need be thrown out because what is being described here is completely within the rules and spiritof the game. If you choose to participate in the Galactic Civil War (GCW), then you need to be aware of the dangers and the rules of engagement (ROE). The ROE of the game state that there are times when you can put yourself in danger of being involuntarily drawn into PvP, and this is one of them. If you go out on GCW faction missions, you need to be aware of the rules and play by them. Likewise, if youdo not recon the area and know who the enemy is, how can you complain when you get overwhelmed? No, no rules were broken here; some peoplejust did not do their homework.

BUT ... that said, justbecause you completely play within the rules does not mean that you are not also a jerk. From your postsckultgen, you are apparently targeting people solely because they are opposing faction members attacking a target belonging to your faction. Thus, you are doing what the game is about, role playing. On the other hand, the players camping on mission terminals and or campingat star or shuttle ports are jerks because they are using the rules to take advantage of people. People who do those kinds of things aren't clever, though I will wager they brag about how clever they are. By the way, I will leave it to you, OwariLoren, to decide where you fit in within this evaluation. You know, killing new players who are still trying to figure out the game and are not really aware of all the rules takes almost as much skill as hanging out at the star port and shooting someone while they are waiting for their character to load. At least in the latter case, they may have a fast computer and fast connection and end up being an elite weapon's master who hands you your posterior when they materialize faster than you expected.

So, ckultgen, you are doing fine, but remember that following the rules and being a jerk are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

This is a game, people. It's not a real war. Try remembering that people are paying money to have fun, not be your whipping boys.

I did this to a guy near Anchorhead a few times before I finally got sick of it. He kept coming back so I felt sorry for him and left.

I was quite aware that tabbing would not toggle through the PCs while I was covert, since I always play as covert. I didn't notice them on radar either. That's why I'm saying I should have visual confirmation on my target first, so that I can verify there aren't any PCs camping the camp. By openly attacking rebels I was leaving myself open to rebel reprisals. C'est la guerre. You just have to learn to be sneaky if you want to start a sneak attack without being ambushed yourself. Rule #1: know your enemy.

I also don't find this objectionable. I'm a covert rebel who is not a hard core PVP player, but i realized when i joined what it meant. Being covert does not mean you can be sutpid. When I do factions missions i never have my radar at less then 128m. Any blue dot in the area is gonna get a mouse rollover. Overt players will show their faction sign. No way to hide it. If I see someone that is just hanging around that is Imp, i'lI go do my other mission or pull out the overkill pets and give them myguard commmand

This is good! In a war, combat missions should not be predictable. Forces are assigned to the mission based on the intelligence available. The intel may have been faulty to start with, or the situation may change between the time of the initial recon and the execution of the mission: Oops, a squad of Stormtroopers arrived to replace the pair of Civilian Patrolmen previously guarding this position! Players should always have to recon their target, scouting out the defences and planning their approach, at the risk of prematurely alerting the defenders and losing the advantage of surprise. It would be cool if NPC defenders could call in reinforcementsduring a prolonged firefight: If you want to do a hit-and-run raid, be ready to run afterward!
