Thread: DEVS: AFK Macro loops need to GO!
YES! We should all have to EARN our titles because everyone knows that a weaponsmith who has only 100,000 clicks under his belt is far insuperior to one who crafted every single weapons barrel by hand! ![]()
If the art of earning exp wasn't so monotomous, there wouldn't be a problem. I play a game to have fun. Killing stuff every once in a while is fun. Being forced to kill hundreds of thousands of little critters just to get some stupid skill box is not fun. Us macroersmake the game more bearable and keep it as being a "game" instead of a second job. Your fight should not be with us but instead against the one tracked minds at SOE who make up these stupid treadmills. If there actually was some "content", this game wouldnt have any problems

english translation please?
Removing recursive macros is not the answer. There are far more reasons to keep recursive macros then there are to get rid of them! I offer3 simple solutions to all your woes;
- Remove the /loot command. Removal of the /loot command will have a3- fold benefit;
- AFK combat grinders will not be able to loot corpses and make mobs respawn faster. This will seriously slow down AFK grinding, but not remove it completely. This is nice because you can still use it to slowly grind your character, but you wont be able to do so quickly or loot great items doing it.
- Significantly reduced amount of treasure campingand other high value locations.
- No more "ninja looting" from group members hunting with a crazy fast loot macro constantly running.
- Limit players to 1 shout type spacial chat every 30 seconds.
- Final Fanasy has a feature like this and it works very well in keeping spacial spam to a minimum. Players can only shout, howl, or other related spacial commands with a shout range once every 30 seconds.The serverwould basically give the player a message that "you may not shout for another X seconds" if they try to shout more often then that.
- Players wishing to /say, /whisper orother normal spacial chat can do so as often as they like but their "barking" has a significantly reduced range compared to the shout type chat commands. This should limit area spam saturation.
- Allow merchants the ability to send a "business card"
- The business card is an email sent to a player with a waypoint attachment to the merchants shop and a little message about what they sell.
- A list is kept of every player a business card has been sent to. A merchant cannot send more then 1 business card a day to any player.
- AFK barkers can ask for players to group with them for details. While grouped, the merchant cantarget the player and send a business card. This way, a prospective customercan actively request more information by inviting the merchant to group rather then be inundated with infuriating spam.
Spread the word.

I like option 1, but option 3 is not going to prevent spam-macros at all, it will only add more spam.
And you completely forgot to suggest how to remove AFK-entertainers.
Now - To everyone who doesn't want the looping macros to go:
You can still have a pretty long macro. Probably even one that runs for 5 minutes.
Then all you do is click it again on your icon-bar.
And if you aren't at your computer ready to click it - then you obviously aren't playing the game.
That's what you are arguing against... 1 click every 5 minutes...
1 click every 5 minutes!
Now who's whining?
I contend there is nothing wrong with AFK entertainers. I can see that taking recursive macros from the entertainer profession will make entertainers rare indeed and potentially even kill the profession. As they say, be careful what you wish for... you may get it.
However, if you guys insist on pushing the issue, a good way to do this while allowing the rest of us to keep our recursive macroing abilitiesis to create a check for any entertainer trying to run amacro. Every time an entertainer certified player runs a macro, a program checks it,looking for a /macro command with a /flourish command. If the macro contains both /flourish and /macro commands, or references a /macro containing /flourishes, it will dump the chain.
This is entirely possible and should be super easy for them to program into the game. Because its only checking for 2 things, its super quick and if there is a pause from this check, itwould barely even be noticable, if at all. Because only entertainers would be subject to the check, combat classes would not have to worry about the check lagging their commands.
how about this: let ppl play the way the devs designed the game, and play your own game and don't worry about what someone else is doing.
bunch of wanna be macro nazi's
i hereby invoke godwin!
