Thread: Shuttle loading times are ridiculous

I've got 768 of RAM and the "initial" load tends to be the slowest taking up to 3/4 mins, after that tho, jumping planet or even shuttling around between places is fairly quick. I'm not sure if it makes a difference if ur "travelling" using your own ship or if you wait for the starships.

I am having the same problem lately. Here is the thing though....i never had that problem before. I have used the same machine for the past couple of months and jumping planets was a breeze. Seems to me that in the past 2 weeks it has gotten worse.

Same here, except I've used the same unchanged comp since Feb of 04. Dunno what they changed or added, but its surely something.

What exactly does messing with the cache / preload settings do? Transfer the lag time from the loading screen to when you're running out of the spaceport is my guess.... ?

I've turned off world preloading as well as caching but I still lag out after being in game for awhile too.

How fast is your HDD? All the RAM in the world won't stop the file swapping from bottle necking.

Have you tried the /flushgraphics fullreset command? It usually helps a lot with load times after long periods of play, and general lag for that matter.

THat's exactly what I was gonna suggest. I have that command macro'd so after a few hours of play if I notice long loads, I just hit that button and it clears my ram and I'm off playing again.

However, I do notice that my load times are longer from certain planets and shorter on others. Plus the shuttles load faster for me than my own ship does. I don't know exactly what that is. I do know that the server load makes big difference as well. When server population is light to medium, my load times fly by, as soon as it hits peak hours, I'm taking forever to load and even lag in some cities. Either way I always use the flush command every couple of hours.
