What I hate about the CU is:

  • Once you want to switch templates, you cannot -- You will have the combat rating of your current TOTAL combat template, so if you are ranged and want to go Brawler you are level 50 as novice brawler as well. This will cause (in the new system) that you will get 0 xp for the low-level creatures that you are able to kill with novice brawler;
  • In PvP you cannot attack a player with 3 or more levels higher, because he wil get a huge damage bonus because he is 3 or more levels higher. Therefore only PvP between equal leveled players is still possible;
  • When they manage to fix the level according to weapon equiped, then PvP would be ruined as well: Example --- A completed melee templated character equiped with a Pistol enters Coronet (level 1 with ranged), someone (level 10 melee) hates Rebels and attacks the Level 1 (seemingly newb). Suddenly this Level 1 grabs his PH and is now level 20 and gets a huge damage bonus due to the 10 level difference and smacks him in 1 or 2 hits.

    1. I was starting to get excited about the CU untill I read this
      Is this how its meant to be or just bugs in testing?

      This is the intended system, as it works in games like WoW. It looks like the copied the coding that is used there, so no more PvP too see who is best at his or her character, but PvP to see who has the most skillpoints spend on a certain profession group, so he gets the highest combat level.

      So lame.......

      If they decide to go with levels.... they better see to that there is a low and high end cap on the groups or things will get really screwed up.

      Wont be bad for a noob if he can team with a 20 level higher player and power level though due to group xp... im not even gonna go into what you can do in PVP if they dont restrict levels you can team with.

      I only hope they do it unless this system will be a joke like all other level bases games.

      Ahtjoo - Money Makers
      Master Bounty Hunter - Will become a Loot W-ore with patch 21
      If your enemy is within your line of sight then you are within hes line of sight.

      I have personally done no testing in the CU system, but can you answer me a question please?

      If i go out and fight an elder and it has 20 more combat rating then me, will i do less damage and receive more damage, then if i go in a group of 10, cause we have a better combat rating as the elder then, while the other 9 guys are just sitting around and foraging for food?

      When you for example group up (say 2 level 5) you get both level 7, so you can take on higher levels.

      So if you group up with 10 level 10's you get a way higher level, but remember if the NPC or creatures you are fighting is then still +3 or more it will get a considerable amount of damage bonus on you, so you get hit for way more. And yes when you are lower level the regen of the higher critter will be higher than yours. And you will do less damage because the critter is higher classed then you are.

      Hope that answers your question

      The statement in red is not correct when your talking about grouping. If your ungrouped, then yes it is correct. However, if your grouped, then it is not correct unless I was bugged or something, but I doubt it.

      Let me explain....

      I was a level 10 marksman doing level 10 missions from the mission terminals. I ran into a guy who needed training (he was level 5), so we grouped and I trained him. I was in the middle of fighting an NPC lair....the npc's were the same level as me. Anyway he wanted to tag along with me so I said sure knowing that i would get a defense bonus for being grouped and I jsut wanted to get to the next level anyway.

      Well, I finished off my last mission and the guy said he had to log, so he did. I started on my way back to cnet when I saw a random spawn of gurrcats that conned yellow to me (while still grouped) and they were level 14, I was still level 10. well, I decided to try my luck.....I mopped the floor with the first gurrcat who was hitting me for 148 damage per attack (every 4 - 5 seconds). At the same time it barely got my Ham down to half.

      Well, then I got cocky and thought, yeah I can take this spawn ungrouped cause I didn't think the defense bonus was that big of a difference since I was the higher level member in the 2 man group. Well, I disband the group and went to attack the next gurrcat. He was hitting me for 249 damage per attack (every 4 - 5 seconds). I barely got it's ham down to half and it incapped me.

      Summary is that while grouped, I could take on a mob 4 levels above me with a moderate effort (not too hard, not too easy). While ungrouped, I could not last longer than 30 seconds against the gurrcat. Couldn't kite it even though I had scout exploration.

      This clearly showed that grouping is and will be the only viable option unless you want to hunt low level stuff and grind slower. A jedi padawan will pull their hair out trying to grind 200k, 400k, 800k or 1 million xp like this....Plus jedi get only partial xp that normal professions get.

      Anyway, the whole point is that the statement of a mob being +3 levels above yougets a damage bonuswhile your grouped is not true.....you get a defense boost and the mobs damage stays the same. The higher the mob is though, the more base damage they do and so it seems as if they are getting a damage bonus....but it's actually the fact that your defense has dropped instead. So when you level up, your defense goes up. That lowers the amount of base damage you take from a mob. You can tell by the fact that the same mob that once did x amount of damage to you when you were level 4, now does less damage to you when your level 5. It's because your defense level went up and the combat log does not show the damage done in relation to the maximum damage possible. If how the combat log is working on TC is correct, then that means that all mobs hit for the maximum potential damage they can do while players damage is between the min and max ranges on their weapons......

      in my opinion, the combat log is not accurate due to the fact that if I have a weapon with a min 25 damage and max 70 damage, then I hit for 55 damage on my target but the combat window says I hit for 55 out of a possible 55 max potential....then that is incorrect, because I can clearly do higher than 55 due to my max being 75 and in most cases, you will do a higher damaging attack at some point. I'm still not sure what the damage modifiers are on the weapons though.......You can have a max 75 damage weapon and hit for 76, 77, 78, 79,80 damage but never get 100. So at least I know the 1.5x base damage multiplier has been taken out of the game.
