Thread: Pistoleer or Rifleman?

Thanks for your help. Where would the best place for me to hunt. I am currently on tatooine in Anchorhead, doing group hunts, but i can only get a maximum of 2000xp per squill, as i dont do much damage. I have only one pistoleer skill. Which skill should i go for next, or which one will let me get more xp from my kills that i do? Also, when is the combat balance for pistoleer expected to happen? Thanks once again.

master rifleman=the pvp/pve ownzers all (i HATE them) if you wanna be good all around. there is no choice. master rifleman.

I plan on mastering pistoleer tonight or tomorrow, then finishing-up mastering rifleman. This way, I have the best of both worlds - great ranged damage and defenses, coupled with great melee defenses and incredible accuracy at point blank. Pistoleers also get great defenses verse posture changes and KD's. Couldn't pass it up (unless I wanted to weild a sword, but that's EQ not SWG!)

i'm a master rifleman and i am currently about halfway up the pistoleer tree. so far there doesnt seem to be alot of difference BUT i didnt think rifleman was any good until i hit master then WOW...everything you have heard about it is true,lol.

People are always saying how they are pistoleer and get owned by Rifleman all the time but my friend is Master Rifleman and with Air Cake/ Brandy/ muon I own him 14 out of 15 times.. He is also TKM. So I have to kite sometimes but with full comp I can usually take him there as well..
I am pistoleer and Bh 3040 BTW.. Eye shot and all that speeds = Own Rifleman I think.

Rifleman > Pistoleer in PvP and PvE... easily...
But if you wanna go PvP with Pistols, I would personally suggest the following:
xx41 Pistoleer
xx4x BH
This allows you to fire any pistol with 2.7 or better speed at the speed cap with all specials given. And really, who uses a pistol slower than 2.7? I don't see it being a good PvE template however, so maybe what the other person posted... Master Pistoleer with 0040 BH.

I've read a few threads now that all say how perfect rifleman is for Ranger. Does anyone have any opinions on pistoleer? I am currently 0043 pistoleer before being told by guild how much better id be as rifleman - is this true?

I really like the playstyle of pistoleer. However, I tried it as a prof and simply found that it wasn't powerful enough. Rifleman and Swordsman are very good for PvE and can enable you to solo almost any critter. The same isn't true for pistols however. Now, there are some die hard pistoleers in the group who will disagree with me, but this was my impression of the prof.

Which do you prefer?
THAT'S the one to do.
I'm a rifleman on one char, pistoleer on another. I like being able to stay out at range, concealed, blasting soeven shades of tomorrow out of my prey. I also like being able to shoot and scoot, stick states on and get out of Dodge.
There is no "best" weapons class for Ranger if you get backed into doing a prof you don't enjoy.

personally... I'm a Carbineer... Carbines are laughed off... but with good speed, and good at at distance... I enjoy them.
the status effects might not be much... but it's my thing.
