Thread: a thread for all your early swg memories..
I remember getting a CDEF rifle from that pirate in the tutorial and thinking "Holy crap! this is gonna be so much better than that pistol the Imperial officer gave me!"
Buying my first set of decent set of bone armor. Someone had made a suit (minus helmet) of 13% kinetic resist! I paid almost 10k for it! Holy crap that was a fortune.
1. Tuskan bunker...... running a good 8km to go there with a wookie and his party. (i still can't believe i survived with the CDEF and stim A's i had equipped)
2. going to the squill caves and seeing text messages of people screaming for backup because they were getting slaughtered. (hence i really didn't go into the caves until the second time i went there.
)
3.) knowing the "secret" of running delivery missions in AH (since it was so small you could literally make a thousand in less than an hour (and a thousand was a LOT back when).)
i was so immersed during the first month of gameplay...i would just almost put myself into my toons shoes.
well since i use high quality headphones while playing it helps a lot in sound immersion
i remember my very first time in was in mos entha.. which was already a ghost town.. this was about a month after release.
i was first talking to npcs then i realized the dots on the radar were blue and the npcs didnt show up.. so i concluded they werent real players..
so then i started running around to blue dots saying hi im new blah blah... got ignored almost every single until finally i came up to a big wookie player.. who then taught me all the languages and pointed me in the direction of the marksman trainer.
whats a miracle is since that day i NEVER even picked up novice medic or artisan or ANYTHING... i was playing hardcore shooter only out alone at first..
so finally i experienced my first day to night sequence and i spent the entire night part asking questions about basic interface and crap with the wookie... then day came and i decided to try this pistol out... ahhhhh womp rats were kicking my butt but i never died
... in fact i didnt get slain for a full two weeks after starting..
then i decided hey that hill looks big... and started walking.. man this is slow!!!.. then some harder mobs starting aggroing me and i was so scared running away and finally got incapped and thought.. oh crap im dead whats gonna happen now! (didnt know about cloning centers and stuff) .. i was even sending tells to other players from the same message board as me asking for help.. hehe
so finally i get up and start walking some random direction feeling totally lost after a while..
until i hit this city called mos espa
i walked alllllll the way there
without waypoints or anything (i didnt know about CTRL V).. the whole time the desert sound ambient noise was scaring me because i felt so alone.. i kept seeing those shuttles overhead thinking those must be players heading around.. so i started shouting hey i need a ride!!!! without even using the /shout command...
so i finally get to this other city and a full day had passed and it was night again..
and i see this ... GASP a bounty hunter player sitting in front of a building with his droid out.. so i sit down and talk to him for a longgggg longgg time and learn even more.. then we go into the cantina and was told to click listen on players playing music... i kept saying out loud wow this place is cool!.. stayed in there a while...
went out during the daytime again and was trecking it in some randome direction again feeling totally lost...
suddenly a sandstorm!!... i didnt know the radar was a compass.. i didnt know about the ctrl v map.. i didnt know anything... i got scared and just kept running and didnt even realize red dots were animals that attack you and was almost killed many times...
by some crazy miracle i stumbled into bestine eventually... and i said you know what..im not travelling again...
spent the next month based out of bestine and even till this day my houses are 800m from the starport there
everythings a blur from there... from finally figuring what i wanted to do (rifleman) to getting my first solo's to learning how to become a better fighter and making friends...
I remember tons of bugs and lack of content...
Oh wait.. that hasn't changed much since release. ![]()
I remember the "chair of death" in my Improved Camp Kit. It was the single chair... sitting by itself... looking oh so innocent. Until it spawned you to 0,0. ![]()
I'll never forget when I was getting camp xp one day as I made my way to Ranger and somebody stopped by my camp to talk to me. I tried to tell him not to sit in the chair... but he just wouldn't listen... Poor bugger. ![]()
But overall I remember besides the bugs and all that, I was really enjoying myself. The graphics were amazing and I just had a lot of fun. Getting a group of my friends together to go out hunting was a blast, since we didn't know what we were doing and didn't quite know what the little colored circles were next to the beast names? Why is that red? Oh hell.. let's attack it anyway. ![]()
Good thread. Cheers!
