Thread: Suggestion: Droid Player Toons!

In Star Wars there are a collection of stories where droids have gone rogue, and or developed self-awareness.
Only one of which is R2-D2.
When Obi-wan says to Dex, "If droids could think, none of us would be here." It is SUPPOSED to be foreshadowing of the droids that are known to "think".
R2-D2 - His thought is obvious just downplayed. He has a sense of humor, and clear thought processes.
IG-88 - Ok so perhaps he is a human downloaded into a droid. The fact remains he IS a droid and can think.
C-3PX - A rogue droid identical to C-3PO who after becoming self-aware went rogue and became an assassin.
4-LOM - Quite possibly the most impressive of these. 4-LOM who you may remember as the Bug-like protocol-droid-looking Bounty Hunter in Empire Strikes Back when Vader is offering the bounty for Han and Luke. 4-LOM was offered to be made more human-like by jabba. He accepted, and began to learn. His story is proof that droids can learn and think.
General Grievous - No one really knows his story yet, but General Grievous is supposed to be the ultimate droid. He's a jedi hunter, the face of a "leader" for the droid army, and an all 'round bad ass.
These are just a few examples, but the Star Wars universe is filled with such stories.
I agree playing a droid would be interesting, but unfortunately, like most other things, it would probably just get messed up by the devs.

4-LOM is not the bug like Bounty Hunter, thats Zuckkes(sp). 4-LOM is like IG-88, but slightly different.
I am sorry sir your wrong. True Zuckkes (sp) is a gand Bounty Hunter that looks like a bug. But 4-LOM has a simaliar robotic headthat looks like a gand head, but a bodyofa protocol droid. In no way are 4-LOM and IG-88 anyway simalar other than the fact their droids. 4-LOM was a protocol droid that went rouge and became a bounty hunter, IG-88 was built to be a war droid and went to work as soon as he was activated.
So what,a Smuggler or Commando couldn't aquire a droid character? Only a MDE? Talk about excluding everyone else from fun. That would never fly. Everyone should be able to have a droid character (just like everyone is able to have a Jedi character if they work for it). Not just MDEs.

I think it would be an interesting addition but perhaps should be geared as an reward for longer term DE. Perhaps work it into a second character slot sheme something similar to Jedi. For all MDE who have been MDE for12 months it would allow them to open up a Droid Toon of their own creation. The Droid toon would be restricted in what it could do based upon it's first programming... ie. Entertainer (Musician Dancer), Battle (BH, Commando, Elite), Medical (Doctor, Combat Medic), Scout (Ranger, Creature Handler). That character slot would only be available so long as the primary toon maintained the MDE...
Just a thought...
Now THAT's an interesting idea. It would add something to DE that would be a great reward.
Perhaps MDEs should be able to craft some kind of item that when it's used unlocks a droid slot. It could work the same was as being a reward for MDEs that have been with the profession for awhile, but these could be sold. To use them you'd have to be a Veteran to the game... possibly a year(so prices wouldn't be extremly high for these items).
I'd say, in the longer term..........SWG has bigger 'fish' to fry.
Unless there was a LARGE number of people behind this, I think it's safe to say that any/all characters will always be organic species of some kind.
/bow
Respectfully,
I'd also forgotton about the some of the 'thinking droids', that guy from the techno uniion who was in leage with darth sidious in Episode 2? Was he a droid or a person dependent on technology (a bit like vader) anyway, just a thought.

if they did add droids, which they wont, they would be very very limited, about the only thing they could do was be marksman and carry a gun

I see cos you are the mind of the devs?
It coudl be whatever it wanted to be, or whatever soe wanted it to be, I dont see at asever being a reward, but perhaps, an expansion patch, I would be interested but having paid for two weeks of jtlt o master, Im now left wondering just how good the content ni the future will be.

I know one.
Onthe server I play on,Kettemoor, we have a guy who actually FULLY RPs being a droid. His name is EG-VII and he is an Ithorian and wears full armor ALL THE TIME. He talks EXACTLY like the droid from KOTOR and uses a set of macro'd emotes such as "EG-VII clicks and whirs" and stuff like that. He will actually tell you he is the property of another player on our server and that player bought him from another player.
He is VERY believeable and extremely fun to RP with.
Edit: he's not a BH, I don't know his exact skill set, you'd hafta ask him.

It would be nice to be able to RolePlay a droid, and I think i came up with an idea that could be used.
My suggetion is this :
Make Droid Engineers able to create a new type of Personality Chip, when installed in a droid the owner could "possess" the droid (similar system that Neverwinter Nights used for pets) and do different "emotes" and maybe make a few sounds (depending on the chassis of the droid). When the owner is "possessing" the droid he wont have control of his character until he "un-possess" the droid, so people could find a safe spot , call their droid and possess it and move around doing droid stuff.
If the droid is a Medic Droid it could be used to heal & diagnose people, If the Droid had a harvesting module you could help your friends or yourself harvest hide & meat etc.
It would work like this:
Player chooses which chassis he wants built (R2,"Mouse-Droid" etc)
Player chooses which modules he wants built (Medic, Entertainer, Scout etc)
Playergets the new Personality Chip built in (makes player able to "possess" droid)
Player purchases Droid , calls droid from the Datapad and can possess the droid at any time.
Additions:
The player could take his Droid to a DE and purchase different modifications.

Zuckuss was 4-LOM's partner, a sentient being, NOT a droid. 4-LOM is for a fact, the bug like protocol droid. It's a common misconception but look it up, it's true.
