I would love to be able to play a sentient droid toon. Can you imagine someone playing HK-47 (from KOTOR) in SWG as a BH?

Wow. No one else wants to play a droid toon? I'd think it would introduce a whole new area of fun into the game.

In Episode 2, the guy Obi-Wan takes that dart too says about markings or somehting on the dart, then Obi-Wan says (if droids could think, none of us would be here, would we?) So in starwars droids are apparantly intelligent and human like, but its just the way they are programmed, they don't think. so a player character as a droid would't fit. Nice idea but more Star trek than starwars. Now pet droidekas, that would be good.

Droids aren't supposed to be able to hurt anyone.
They're not supposed to be involved in combat (no really, despite all the combat droids around.)
Droids BELONG to someone - you don't get 'free' droids.
Droids can be destroyed, reprogrammed, memory wiped etc without reproach - they're property, not lifeform.
In game, droids are crafted items. Not only would it then cause confusion for non-crafted and crafted droids, it would probably create a crippling dependancy on Droid Engineers (and I know they could use the business, but that's too much) for repair, parts, 'modules', paint kits etc etc.
In short - it would be nice, but it would be yet another low blow to the continuity and potentially unbalancing.

In Star Wars there are a collection of stories where droids have gone rogue, and or developed self-awareness.
Only one of which is R2-D2.
When Obi-wan says to Dex, "If droids could think, none of us would be here." It is SUPPOSED to be foreshadowing of the droids that are known to "think".
R2-D2 - His thought is obvious just downplayed. He has a sense of humor, and clear thought processes.
IG-88 - Ok so perhaps he is a human downloaded into a droid. The fact remains he IS a droid and can think.
C-3PX - A rogue droid identical to C-3PO who after becoming self-aware went rogue and became an assassin.
4-LOM - Quite possibly the most impressive of these. 4-LOM who you may remember as the Bug-like protocol-droid-looking Bounty Hunter in Empire Strikes Back when Vader is offering the bounty for Han and Luke. 4-LOM was offered to be made more human-like by jabba. He accepted, and began to learn. His story is proof that droids can learn and think.
General Grievous - No one really knows his story yet, but General Grievous is supposed to be the ultimate droid. He's a jedi hunter, the face of a "leader" for the droid army, and an all 'round bad ass.
These are just a few examples, but the Star Wars universe is filled with such stories.
I agree playing a droid would be interesting, but unfortunately, like most other things, it would probably just get messed up by the devs.

I think it would be an interesting addition but perhaps should be geared as an reward for longer term DE. Perhaps work it into a second character slot sheme something similar to Jedi. For all MDE who have been MDE for12 months it would allow them to open up a Droid Toon of their own creation. The Droid toon would be restricted in what it could do based upon it's first programming... ie. Entertainer (Musician Dancer), Battle (BH, Commando, Elite), Medical (Doctor, Combat Medic), Scout (Ranger, Creature Handler). That character slot would only be available so long as the primary toon maintained the MDE...
Just a thought...

4-LOM is not the bug like Bounty Hunter, thats Zuckkes(sp). 4-LOM is like IG-88, but slightly different.

Now THAT's an interesting idea. It would add something to DE that would be a great reward.

I personally would say get a Master Bio-Engineer to download your "personality." Then get a Droid Engineer to make a Droid Chassis (Add more chassis' too!), and give it a few modifications to give a bonus to certain skills (Ex, Wheeled droids lose a negative terrain navigation modifier. Le Repair droids can get +5 Surveying, whatever.), and build a normal droid with the copy of that character's personality chip instead of the other brain chips. Give the droid to the person, and on the droid add an option "convert to droid." And then you get to play as one, how cool would that be.
