Thread: The Sun! Where is it!
TheCahill wrote:No, you missunderstand me friend Sun is a proper Name. IE there can be only one "The White House" there are many other national Capital buildings "The White House" is a Signular entity you cant go to france and say take me to your "The White House". "The Sun" is the Name of our orbital Star. yes plannets can orbit twin stars but they are not "Sun"'s they are what ever the Tatoinees have named them. as i dbout they named them both Sun and as i dbout all races on all plannets just happend to name there Stars Sun (which i am very sure they havent Given the movies and EU not using that name). They are very carfull to say Starsystem Ect.
So as you see im not say you cant have to stars to orbit im saying there not named "Sun" (you can also tell that Sun requires the Capital S of a name while star does not)
You're right, Sun, capitalized, always refers to Sol. However, it is not a rule that it must be capitalized, and 'sun' can refer to either Sol or any star at the center of a planetary system, relatively speaking of course. This from the American Heritage folks, so I'm not making it up.
The Sun is personified in many mythologies: the Greeks called it Helios and the Romans called it Sol (lit. translation Sun)
Helios is the young Greek god of the sun. He is the son of Hyperion and Theia. By the Oceanid Perse, he became the father of Aeëtes, Circe, and Pasiphae. His other two daughters are Phaethusa ("radiant") and Lampetia ("shining"). He had a son, named Phaeton, whom he once allowed to guide his chariot across the sky. The unskilled youth could not control the horses and fell towards his death.
The personified Roman god of the sun, completely identical to the Greek Helios. He was possibly worshipped as Sol Indiges in his temple on the Quirinalis. A second temple was located at the Circus Maximus, near the race-tracks, where he was considered to be the protector of the four-in-hands which joined the races. The emperor Heliogabalus imported the cult of Sol Invictus ("the invincible sun") from Syria and Sol was made god of the state.
Thank you http://www.pantheon.org for the great info!
Ya might want to check your monitor settings to for contrast and brightness settings. Ive always used max contrast with out 50% maybe a bit more on brightness. Its kinda meant to use your lights when its dark on the planets though.
Dathomir is notoriously dark. In fact in a recent patch they "lightened" it up a bit. Used to be even more dark.
I take the advice of previous posters to turn up the gamma in the graphics settings, and also use your personal light CTRL-L for close range illumination. Don't turn up the gamma too high though or tatooine will look like blinding snow everywhere

Actualy buddy, not to get technical but there is only one "Sun" Hence The Sun.
You're right... that's not technical. Our sun, Sol is commonly called "the Sun" because for millennia it was the only one we knew of. Sol is a sun but not the only one. It's no different than Luna, commonly called "the Moon" but it's not even the only moon in our solar system. The terms "sun" and "moon" are non-specific terms for certain types of celestial bodies.
If you're going to nit-pick, you really might want to be sure that you've got your facts straight. ![]()
