Thread: Star Wars Names: The Name Doctor is IN!
Heh I'll give this a go too...
Ja'Art Ho'ban - Zabrak Scout from a SW name generation system
Jakyshyk - Wookie Jack of all Trades
Jerran Mistlighter - Human Scout
Taninn Karn - Twi'lek
See what you make of those...be gentle...
how about my two characters...
Aenarian (no last name... goes with his bio. Dropped it earn a reputation of his own because of his fathers rep...) Zabrak, Master Marksman
Daemryyk, wookie, teri kasi...
The only one you missed so far, as far as I can tell, was a Bothan with the last name Houynhnhnm. This one seems to me to be a reference to the land of the Houynhmhnms, the horse-folk of Gulliver's Travels.
I've got a name for you to analyze as well
Guan Kai Rong
Derrek Crowngard - Human Novice Doctor
Mitche Anterion - Human Entertainer
I have enjoyed this thread immensely! I eagerly await your review ![]()
I just read through this entire thread and I have to say that I love it.
Here are two names, if you would please. The first one is the name I didn't go with, but I probably should have...Rayner Jacklight. The second one is what my character is actually called, Kealar bal'Sung, a human pistoleer and scout, whose family was originally from the Kuati system (though one of the lesser worlds where "bal" is a stolen prefix), but whose father moved them to Corellia as base of operations for his architecture design business. Kealar travelled with his father, intent on following in his footsteps, until they did a job on Naboo where a local moff killed Kealar's father, Fahrad bal'Sung, when Kealar had a tryst with the moff's girl. Kealar gave up architecture to train in the skills necessary to eventuallytake down the moff. In doing so, he came into contact with the Rebellion and has joined their cause. He spends most of his time on Naboo, but travels often to practice his skills and further the goals of the Rebellion.
Anyway, to let you know, I went with Kealar bal'Sung instead of Rayner Jacklight, because of my guild, Volsung Tribe, from Midgard Galahad on DAoC. My name there is Killmour Enmoranmour and my nickname among the guild is Killa. I was trying to create a name that suggested the DAoC roots while still fulfilling the Star Wars conventions AND that helped retain my nickname in anticipation of my guildies joining me in SWG. I think I could have done a little better. For the first name, Khillmar or some such (though even that doesn't quite seem to work, hence the difficulty in settling on a "killa" name). And since I was from a world that was already bastardizing the meaning of "bal," why not go a step farther and make it "vol." This would have given me Khillmar vol'Sung, which avoids the awkwardness of pronunciation of the first name and avoids the unintentional mispronunciation of the last name (if you can't see it, I won't point it out).
Sigh. If only there were a way to change your name in SWG. Even Kealar vol'Sung would do better. But enough of my opinion...ha ha...what's yours?
Greetings to you again Riis, Yes the name Dragondeva.. in this game is a nickname.. my history is: Raised on the streets of Theed.. always caring for the hurt animals... got teased all the time ... and called by the name as a joke...because ofher love forall the animals. She took the name proudly asshe had none of her own.. and plans on becoming a CH to prove to all that she could do it.. taken in by a cantania owner..and took his name for her last name.. made towork and dance... she dreams of being able to be on her own

Blackk
OMG I thought this thread was originally a joke, but I gotta say.. Good Job. I'm impressed and agree with most of your analysis. Try mine:
Cygnus Omega - Master Ranger, Zabrak
I know it's a dumb name, but it's mine!
Cheers ![]()
Ok lets give it a go...
Jor'ha S'waak
Bothan Smuggler ![]()
Let me know what you think.
Good morning class. Today's lesson is on how names work for Wookiees and Mon Calamari.
First, the Mon Calamari are a single name species. They almost always have one name only, except in rare instances where a Calamari will take a second name as an honorific OR in honor of another, more famous Mon Calamari. Thus, when you see me say "the single name Calamari thing," this is what I mean.
Second, the debate between my ears rages on about Wookiee names in that either they can pronounce more than we give them credit, or their entire species has a naming structure that prevents any of them from speaking their own names. When I tripped through the literature yesterday, I looked for Wookiee names, and found a bunch of them that would not have passed my Wookiee test. Again, I am refusing to believe in a culture that can't say their own names, but for the time being, I'll grade Wookiees on "look and feel" and lay off the pronounciation thing.
But now, we have more names!
Max-Madius Capitanos
If it were me, I'd lose the Max- and concentrate on Madius Capitanos. This is a little too strongly Latinate, in my opinion, and I would do some vowel drift from here. Some examples might be: Miduas Cipitenas, Madeis Capetenis. Even better would be to chop the -ius and -os and be free of ancient roots: Madi Capitan.
Eclipse Draco
Eclipse is a cool word, and has some currency in Star Wars, so I'll pass on this, but be thinking of how to defend it. Draco...well, this dragon thing is always going to be with us, and if you go there, so you shall. I would suggest mixing up your dragon name and keeping the flavor, but not make us be thinking of our Ring of Fire Protection when we read it. Eclipse Rako would be nice.
Fii Winu
The full deal, eh? I'll compromise by hitting some extra bullet points. Continuity breaking? Not that I am aware of. Intended to be humorous, or cool, and not working? Again, you seem fine here. Species appropriateness will fit. Euphonious? It's a smile name, which I love. Everyone, say "Fii Winu" three times, each time exaggerating your vowels more, as though you were singing, and notice how your lips and cheeks lift into a smile. Genre stretching, new style? No, it looks a little derivative of Mace Windu, but it's not overt or distracting. Pronouncable? Yes. Backstory appropriate? I'm sure it is.
Calculus Entropy
The reason I am not a professional geologist today is a failure to grasp calculus. So...I HATE YOU! Just kidding. The Calculus is firmly rooted in our culture as a math style and nothing more, and carries quite the emotional baggage for many people. Of course, this is Star Wars, but I can see a young Greedo in Community College dropping out to become a bounty hunter for the same reason as me. Entropy is a fun word, but in all, this name is just not working for me. Also, the Trandoshan probably do not use Calculus for any reason, and their concept of entropy likely is rudimentary as well.
Ebaqo
My first Wookiee since making my statement above. I like how you got a similar ending as -bacca without using that particle, but I wonder if Kashyyyk has an Italian quarter. I could swear Ebaqo is an actual word, but not in any major word language in which I am familiar. I will tentatively say, ok, but perhaps we could stretch the ending out a bit and give it more life.
Sinter Krell
Ah,the sinter machine at the factory I worked at endlessly fascinated mewith it's light blue glow when it wasoperative. Sintering is an interesting industrial process, and is a rare enough word to probably fit, though I would probably laugh at it a little in a fantasy environment. Krell is a fine last name.
Vander Rayne
Vander is one of those V names, and Rayne seems to pop up here and there in fantasy/scifi literature. In all, the name has goodflow.
Dyrn Czantor
A "durn" good name, but you are culturally locating yourself a little bit. I like how the letters look near eachother in this one, and while not perfectly musical, it will pass.
Novak Kayne
I often wonder who cleans a Wookiee's teeth. Joke aside, the names in a vacuum would probably work, but together I feel the joke is a little distracting. Also, I am thinking it may be a bit hard sounding for a Rodian.
Elias Anadarin
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster in many other forums as well, so I welcome you to AT-ST nerf central. Elias is a name I wish would come back here in America, as it has a nice history, and sounds good. Anadarin is very nice in the last name category. It looks familiar, but pronouces unfamiliar, which is the hallmark of a creative Star Wars name.
Zedire, Zerire Caline
Zedire and Zerire are fine, but the family should invest in more letters of the alphabet
. Caline, being very similar to Colleen, gives me that mental image, but really, the whole name put together sounds great. Good mix of softer sounds.
Eridez Enilac
You know, before I read your post fully, I was going to say, "Hey! That's the other name backward!" So I think you got what you asked for there. Eridez seems Spanish in flavor, and works well with a non-Spanish appearing Enilac.
Ze-ca Lin
I agree with you on this Jedi name.
Jonthen Scytale
Scytale as in the Frank Herbert character, or scytale as in the device used to make codes? Of course, Herbert named the character after the device, and I only find it distracting here as a cross-genre issue. Jonthen is a interesting first name and would keep it.
Kezon Skailridge
Kezon looks very good from here, but Itripped the first couple times I said "Skailridge," which could be an issue.Iffolks havedifficulty pronouncing your name, eventually their negative feelings could move over to you as a person. This is psychologicallytested and noted in lab settings with psychologists with unusual names interviewing people. But going back over this name, I realize that it actually has a great feel to it as well. So there you go, Name Doctor ambiguity at its best.
Jaerek Osiris
Well, the Osiris thing is a bit distracting, I'm afraid. Even folks without any Egyptian mythological knowledge at least recognize the word as such. If you like the word or concept, simply use some vowel drift to mix it up. In fact, let's shift all vowels one place left, and then one place right: Iseres, Usoros. Maybe play with some consonant drift as well, mixing up hard and soft sounds: Othilis, Osigris. Some food for thought. LIked the backstory.
Varden Silvanos
Varden is anice name, very Tolkienesque in it's sound, but I won't ding you for that, unless you use someElf names as your last...uh, oh. Are you sure this isn't the name of an Elf somewhere? If not, it should be! I would back off a bit from this name. Silv- seems tohave beenkidnappedfrom it's original roots and transplanted in fantasy as an Elf word or marker.
Ecibob
Bobice? I knew a guy named Elib, and of course, backward, that is "bile," so whenever I see an "e" name, I immediatly flip it around. Ecibob sounds better than it looks.
Zuba Fey'zul
Yes. Riis' Law anda good, solid Bothan last name.
Remik Stivan
I like this name for showing how a little work with some vowels can turn Steven, a common male name, into Stivan, a very Star Wars appearing name. you are my new poster child.
Remik Stivan by the way, hops along on the tongue and therefore is fun to say - a good name.
Twenty-one more namestakes me through page 8 of the thread. I hope to get to page nine soon. Keep the faith, my brethren (and assorted sistren)!
