Nice info...thanks.
I would like this game feature to someday be extended to Mayors. It would be nice if a town mayor could pack houses up and shift them around in town. Let the mayor pack it up and place it in his datapad. The mayor can do two things than 1) Drop it someplace else in town 2) Transfer it to the owners datapad. If the mayor logs out and its still in his datapad, it would be automatically transfered to the owner. Also make it so residence is maintained throught this process.
These are great ideas and came up in the discussion threads for Test Center. We passed that info along to the team
Being a Mayor myself i would have to agree that the ideas from Valkyrie are indeed a must have these days. Too often do we see Citizens that come one week and are all of a sudden gone the next using up the much needed land for continued growth in Player Cities. With the recent footprint changes to the Medium Naboos alot of cities have already had to halt recruiting due to not being able to move houses around at will. The House Packup System will certainly help out in some cases, however, there are still too many structures with now Massive Footprints inside Player Cities to recreate a new layout.
Either way I believe this feature is one of the BEST for all players that move around on a consistent basis. I can't wait to see it hit live servers and hopefully give Politicians some sort of tool to put someones structure in their datapad in the near future. It would help tremendously.

So lets say I hae a large house and 2 free lots, I pack up my large house (I still have 2 free lots) go to another planet. Can I then drop my large house? Will the system realize I am reusing those 5 lots dedicated to the packed house?
Yes - packing up a house does not free up those lots.
And now the biggie- When I pack my carefully decorated Naboo house, can I drop it on ANY planet or are we still stuck with the planet limitiations (i.e. no naboos on Coreillia or Talus)?
Planet limitations are still in effect...

Is there any possiblity that a mayor might have the ability to place a players house into his or her inventory? This would prevent griefing but allow mayors to clean up their city of abusive and inactive players as well as it helps alleviate the huge placement issue with the changes to the naboo medium house footprint size.
Many city plans in effect had to be tossed due to this change, but adding some sort of ability for mayors to pack up homes would be a huge help to mayors while at the same time not ruin a player's home.
Thanks for this change devs!

And it was nice to have a FF that had something fresh and new in it. Thanks for not posting a guide from 2 years ago

Great work, cool feature!
Now lets pack up all the old abandoned houses and free up the game and reduce the lag that all these abandoned houses generate.
Better yet, lets kick this game into shape and fill these houses with people again

TH, any chance this code is also being written to allow for some server consolidation? Luckily I play on corbantis which is busy but I have alts on a couple of the DEAD servers and they are empty.

Any chance that this feature will be used to auto-pack house that are no longer used, or owned by players who no longer play?
Yes, will the Housing Purge be released concurrently, or shortly after the House Pack-up feature hits live?
Neither- - this feature was to accommodate folks whose houses were in dangerous locations after the CU.
FWIW, when the housing purge happens, we'll give folks lots of advanced notice!
TH, you said housing purge, does this mean that when the roll happens the houses are going away?
I would think it would be more benificial to have the structures get packed up into the characters datapad.

Awesome Friday Feature, TH. This is the kind of "look ahead" I like to find at the end of a long work week...
I know of at least one person who is planning on moving her house from its current ghost town location to an active town once this hits the live servers. Great feature!
I'm glad to hear that!
And you bring up another great point to this feature.Player citieshave shifted quite a bit. Eventhe city I used to be a part of up and moved. Rather than move everything, I left my old house as a lakeside retreat (AKA Rebel hideout =P ) and set up a new one in the new location.
This new feature helps players stay together
The reason why player cities have shifted is not "dangerous places" as you stated, its because you screwed the system completly with the following changes:
1. Condemned Status (resulting in houses staying abandomed in a city for eternity until the financial resources of the account owner, who does not play anymore, are eaten up. Then after this eternity there comes the non-existing purge system in action, so that the house stays for a second period of eternity. In the meantime CSRs refrain from removing houses, while they did it in justified situations, before this stupid maintenances system came in to place).
This problem also accounts for the spoiled places in wilderness that are occupied by harvester farms owned by people on other servers. While i think, there was nothing wrong with cross-server lotshared harvester farms before the maintenances change, the Condemned change has led to an exploit, blocking good spots for no costs and activate the farm only, when good resources are spawned. With the last patch you "fixed" this problem in the SOE-type of manner by removing the /paymaintenance command without any notification.
2. Removal of skillpoints for politician. Now everybody and his mom has the idea of leading his own city, yielding many many outposts and villages that are pulling away citizens from the established cities. In many cases the result is an abandoned storage house in the big city while citizenship has shifted to the creepy ego-trip village. Ok this wont change anymore, but i have to emphazise that it was a stupid change.
Because of the problems SOE caused by "condemned" status the following is an absolut must:
* ENHANCE THE SYSTEM TO ALL PLAYER STRUCTURES (maybe just allow it to be used activly by players only for houses)
* FORCE HOUSE-PACK ALL STUCTURES THAT RAN OUT OF THEIR OWN MAINTENANCE POOL!
* PURGE CHARACTERS THAT ARE CANCELED FOR MORE THAN HALF A YEAR (its not my server harddisk .... but i pay for it )
TH, This is an awesome feature!
Thx guys for making this happen! No more 23421341 trips back and fourth just to move your house.
