Thread: What is the armor hole bug and can it be avoided?
As others mentioned, anything "extra" you're wearing besides armor supposedly creates an "armor hole" where it sits on your body. This includes backpacks, belts, rings, necklaces, etc.
To get over any possible armor hole in the waist area, wear a padded armor or mabari armorweave belt, it doesn't give a whole lot of coverage, but could cover any "hole" there.
Grimhand wrote:I am trying to get some background on the "armor hole" bug - from the description is sounds like a warrior decked out in composite can still take a nasty hit. What is it exactly and is there anything you can do to prevent it?
Reroll as a wookiee, no more armor holes to worry about...heck no armor to worry about at all. Of course every hit will be one of those "nasty" ones, but you do get 700 extra stat points, right?!
JChace029 wrote:That's not a "bug" there is an open spot for the Belt when wearing armor, and people just assume it is a bug.
there was a bug that added in hitspots for extra items such as necklaces, bracelets, rings, and sunglasses. this was removed. if you are wearing a full suit of armor there should not be a spot that you can hit for full damage. composite armor/ubese armor does not have a belt, so therefore should not have a hole
Total crap.....as far as not wanting to get hit for full damage because of some armor hole.
Look....no armor in this game protects you 100% even without backpacks, rings, belts, bandoliers...etc.
there are soft spots in any kind of armor a person wears simply because you have to be able to bend, twist, turn your head and such. There are natural soft spots there. I'm sure that in the game this concept was looked at by the devs. you get hit between where the bracer and the bicep connects (where it allows your arm to bend)....you take unblocked damage. You get hit between the area where the chest plate and the leggings connect, you take unblocked damage.
Now this has a very low chance of happening. Maybe it happens too much, maybe it doesn't.....that's something to look at.
But As far as armor goes, the only real way to be totally protected from damage is to have every single spot of the body covered, which no armor in this game does that. To have a suit of armor 100% cover all of the body, you need a suit of armor that is powered to allow the suit to bend, even then itwill probablybe to heavy to wear. It can't have areas where the armor connects. THe armor can'tcome in pieces where you can put one part on andnot another.....this kind of armor will havenatural holes.
Armor in this game is similar to the armor knightshad. They couldhave a suit of knight armor on and still get killed by a sword penetrating under the arm, under the neck, in the waist area (ok so they died easy in those days...lol...but you take a sword under the arm pit and lets see how well you can swing that arm afterwards).....they could also be injured at theknees, neck andwrist....
Given that kind of armor which composite basically reminds me of,knights could barely move when wearing them and where still vulnerable totaking major damage.
In my opinion, there should be holes in the armor but only if the armor is not a complete solid suit that is one peice. If you can wear the pants but not have to wear the chest plate....there should be a natural hole there where you can take full damage from an attack.
Oh yeah, Just my opinion, I don't think a person wearing composite armor should be able to run or move as fast as a person not wearing any.....but we all seem to move at the exact same speed in this game.....well except for those that have scout terrain negotiation. Also, you shouldn't be able to do physical things without any negative effects.....how can a swordsman wearing composite swing a sword as fast as someone with no armor. Ok, so it's shown in the loss of HAM. But that's only relative to the amount of swings you get in a specific time period. Everyone still swings at the same speed as long as they are equal in skills....say master and master.
So Armor hole aint the only thing that seems unfairbut there are other things that can also be considered unfair like the statement I made above.....
I really don't think it's a bug at all, but just an attempt for the devs to make wearing armor realistic.

And weapons and vechicles have moving parts and can at anytime jam and fail to work or worse, explode in your face. Or..it's a game and not real life. Fix the armor holes. I get wacked by it regularly.
