Thread: /assist--I don't get it

I've been trying to use /assist in the same way I used the command in EQ. Clearly it is not the same command. So what exactly does /assist do, and what should I be doing to get the same effect as the old EQ /assist (in other words, to target whatever my buddy has targetted and attack it)?

I have an assist hotkey, and while it tells me what myassitee is attacking, it doesn't switch to it. I have to manually click on the target to be attacked.

Either I'm doing this wrong, or it needs to be fixed. If I'm doing it wrong, please let me know so I can correct my error.

Mine works, when I do the following.

I have the command assigned to a hotbar item ('=') position. I then click on the leader in the left side fellowship window, and then click on the hotbar button.

They definatly have problems with you using the keyboard. /listen is another of thoses commands that does not work if you type it in.

I haven't had any problems with /assist (hand typed or via hotbar)after I figured out how it works, exactly.

What happens is that in SWG you can actually have two targets. One friend, and if you're also engaged, one enemy. What you have to do is select the friendly that you want to /assist and /assist him, then when your guy starts shooting/swinging at the appropriate mob, hit 'escape'. You will de-target your friendly and then auto-target the mob you were already shooting at.

So really, all you have to do is target friendly, /assist, press escape.

On a similar note...

I've noticed that TAB isn't really a useful 'next target' key. I've been killed trying to switch to the next closest target during a fight because I end up shooting something farther away than the mobs I'm fighting. (Something that wasn't attacking me until I hit TAB)

You would think it wouldcycle through targets based on distance. That doesn't seem to be the case.

Is there a 'next closest target' key?

Devs - I think there should be a key that lets you cycle throughONLYthe mobsattacking you atm.

BUMP!

I consider this a priority fix item as it affects the entire grouping concept of the game. Devs, please work on this one ASAP.

to use assist all you need to do is target your host who is attacking, and start attacking him, it will automatically make you start attacking whatever they are attacking, no /assist shi1t needed

I use a macro I named "closest"

/ui action clearCombatQueue;

/ui action cycleTargetOutward

This will select the closest target in your FIELD OF VISION.

To assist, just target someone. As long as you have them targeted. All your attacks will hit whatever he's targeting. This works for area attacks too.
