What happened was a critical failure. This happens occasionally. It sucks, but hey, that's life. If you can make the tool, you can use it. I have been repairing my weapons and armor since I was able to make these tools. Not sure there is a skill anywhere in the tree's, as I went looking for it one day and couldn't find it. I assume because of that, that anyone can repair with the tools, and that we all have the same chance of success/failure. Unless of course I missed the skill while looking through the tree's. Always a possibility.

Sladi, you describe how it should be and I would agree with you if it were working.

However, today I tried to repair 4 items. All Items still had some condition left, they were not down to 0. I used 97 rating tools.

All four Items broke and vanished. I understand the idea of a critical failure and can life with it, but so far out of 10 times I tried to repair something, only ONE time the item did not break and vanish.

There is something deadly wrong here and the Devs are playing deaf to this problem because it helps them "fix" their screwed up economy...

You have to repair above 50%, best if you repair above 60%.

Its just not worth it. You have to risk losing a weapon at a high condition if you want to repair it. You CAN repair when it gets lower, but don't count on it surviving.

cheers for the info ken, but i'll stick with what i know: "if it aint broke, dont fix it"

that way i dont have that risk of loosing a whole suit of composite. like many others i've tried a few times to repair items, but never seen a successful result, even with 98%+ repair tools.

well , even if you get a "great succes" the items condition will be decreased, and as i understand it (having killed some items on my own already, like every other good player ) the server rolls your succesrate, decreases yourmomentary and max condition by a value (or to zero if you get a critical failure) and finaly fills the momenary up to max if it sill was greater than zero.... if someone is able to translate that to plain english id apreciate it

p.s.: some believe master AS/WS have better repair results. well others belive in zodiacs

Everything I have tried to repair was broken afterwards. Nothing has ever vanished, but the items typically have a condition of 1 afterwards. This is pretty frustrating, as it cost me a decent set of armor to learn this lesson.

There was a reply from TH to one of his Tuesday Tips, that AS or WS do get a slight increase in repairing items, but it's still a dice roll and the increase is very low.

I am personally only using 99+% tools for weapons as well as armor. I don't know if I am very one, but I usually fail in 1 out of 20 repairs. The others are usually marginally repairs and sometimes I get a good repair. There are lots of theories when to repair an item, I personally repairing mine when I see the stats going down. That means damage for weapons or protection for armor.

You dunno need to be artisan to repair items, I have a full combat template and repair all items myself, if they will fix the repair mod I might use my AS for repairing my items. Oh and if you are on the work devs, please fix 2h Damage Mod too.. I have +25 laying around

I did read somewhere about this, and it does seem to help,

ensure you have 0 BF and no mind wounds when you perform the repair.

Since i've been doing this, i've had very few failed repairs, I normally ge tthe you have repaired but condition reduced (takes a 35k armour down to 23k). I would pout my success rate about 1 fail in 10.

I read those advices too in several posts, but cannot confirm it... maybe it is supposed
to work like that, but i usually repair my items on NS or Krayt hunt, immediatly when
i realize stats going down.

Well, my success is stated above and speaks for itself .. i think its all about the quality
of the tool and some luck.

EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER repaired no matter what the condishion and even if i have use 100% repair tools has ALLWAYS failed. I did a test with cdef rifles with799/800 cond and they ALL failed and thats with 100% repair tools. Whats the point in haveing repair tools if they ALLWAYS fail ?

The problem is that when the game was in beta, the crafting classes got a bonus to replair things, but for some reason they got taken out, with the exception of the repair tapes. It is possible to get your repair skills up enough and you should have a better chance to repair, but you will always have the chance of failure.

I don't agree with the repair before it hits 50%, I usually repair at about 20-30% and I end up with max condition reduced, and every once in a while I get a failure.

One piece of advice that was given to me if you are repairing youe own items is. "Make sure you are standing in from of a vendor for that item, armor, weapons, as this will enhance your sucess, only because you made the trip to go buy a new one". Seems to work for me atleast.
