Thread: When NOT to tip a medic
Having read through many posts about when to tip, how much to tip, blah blah blah...I noticed one comment that struck me and I thought I'd like to mention an opinion and then see what everyone else thinks as well. The comment reflected that someone walked into a medical center and went AFK, but as soon as this character sat down, every medic started trying to heal him. Now this is not wrong, which brings me to my comment.
When a medic comes up and starts to heal you, without being asked, I consider this free healing. Tip if you'd like, but the medic should not expect to get a tip. This is not an HMO, you may chooseany providor and if a medic decides to heal you to get their own exp, then so much the better for you. When I feel like I want to start building exp(I'm an Artisan/Scout/Medic)then I start healing EVERYBODY in sight. If someone asks me to heal them, or requests stimpacks or woundpacks, then yes, I expect a little compensation. If nothing else then for my time to collect the materials needed to make them. Anyway, just my thoughts...Any others???

I absolutely agree. I am also the same combo, and I frequently haunt combat areas and do "run by", unsolicited, healings for the XP. All of the combatants are very thankful, but I never ask for (nor receive) a tip. It's all about the XP for me.

IMHO, that would be what would get them a tip in my book I guess it's different for everyone. I usually heal myself with my Novice medic skills before a medic even speaks to me though.=/
if i played a medic, and was in the med center, and someone came in and sat down, i would heal them... what are you doing in the med center then if you were not there for a heal?

I'm an entertainer, and I see tons of other entertainers saying "tip" over and over... I don't know about you.... but I think tips are earned by also being social. When I'm playing my Fizz, and someone walks in or a group... I like to get a little chat going to make time seem to pass faster for them. Do I ask for tips? No, but when you socialize and perform (or heal for a medic), that's when I believe tips are warrented.
Those that take the time to say hello and get to know you while they do their thing.... those are the people that deserve the tips.
Ohh, yes, sometimes.... I'll return a tip. I don't like to see new chars tipping me more than they can afford.
That's my two credits.

I disagree and agree. With your agruement people will start saying, 'i went into med center and went afk so why should i tip u if i didnt ask'. I tip for action and health wounds only but I always shout out when I need help. Tip something small even though you didn't ask to be healed...u cheapo!
While I said that a tip shouldn't be expected, it's my custom when being healed by someone else to tip as appropriate. It's hard at times, I know, because sometimes you can't get a medic when your dying, but then **edit** your finger and you'll have 15 people trying to heal you when you walk into town. It's a case by case basis, but if you don't ask to be healed you don't have to tip. However, being the courteous player that I am, I try to tip, or for a flesh wound, at least say thank you...
I just hit novice doctor last night.
The only reasons I stop in at the medic stations are to:
1) Get xp
2) Train other medics
3) Get training from other medics.
I never once expect to get tipped when I heal people in the medic station. If I wanted to make money, i'd run delivery missions and make faction as well.
Don't stereotype all medics in wanting cash for healing. The same as I'm sure all entertainers are not wanting tips for dancing/playing music.
I mean....for god's sake...are you being serious here.
You're gonna punish someone by not tipping them because they went out of their way to heal you WITHOUT being asked?????
By your mentality, I see no difference in a Doc refusing to heal people in a group until they spam the group chat channel with HEAL ME PLEASE every time they are hit. Which, by the way, as a Doc (not a medic), I can tell you is very annoying and unneeded in groups.
what are you doing in the med center then if you were not there for a heal?
I'm a scout. I often go into a med center to sell organics (meat) the those who might want to buy it to make stimpacks.
Also... we had complaints about ninja harvesting... how about ninja healing? I walk into a med center (for whatever reason) with MINIMAL wounds... and sometimes I have 5 or 6 people all healing me at once. The messages scroll by so fast, I can't tell who's doing what. It's like an ER at warp speed. So who am I supposed to tip? I can't tell who healed me for more... for less... who just did tend damage.... who used a stimpack.
Ninja healing has to stop too.
what are you doing in the med center then if you were not there for a heal?
Sometimes I come in to sell meat for stimpacks. That's what.
And "ninja healers" get nothing from me. Sometimes I get 5 medics all running over to heal me first. You know who gets my tip? The one who took a minute to talk to me like a person.
Stop with the ninja healing.
how about ninja healing?
I could see this as a problem. I've seen it happen.
If there is more than 2 or 3 medics in the station, then I usually leave and work on missions, find a group, or work on my chemistry.
I have no desire to fight with medics on heals.
