Each week, Q-3PO started a thread for you to share game tips with fellow players. Tuesday Tips will continue on. Have a little known command you use all the time, a cool place to visit, a trick (non-exploit) to getting more out of the game? Share it here. To get things started:

Manage your SWG Mail!

There is a “save mail” command that will save your in-game email to your hard drive. This is handy if you are a crafter with a lot of email or a player who runs a lot of events and has to manage a lot of email.

In-game, simply type:

/mailsave

After you enter the command, the computer will prompt you to wait for a moment while it saves the mail to your hard drive. When it is complete, it will give you a message in your chat window that notifies you what directory the mail has been saved to. Then, later on, you can access the mail by using the explorer to browse to the following sample directory:

"C:/Program Files/StarWarsGalaxies/profiles-Your station name/galaxy you play on/mail_your character name"

Inside the last folder will be all of your mail saved as a *.mail file.

If you have never opened a *.mail file, your computer will ask you to find a program to open the file with after you double-click the file. You can use a text notepad to read the files.

Also note that in the same window, there will be a checkbox asking you if you ALWAYS want to open the mail files with a notepad or other type text program. If you choose, “yes”, you will be able to double-click on any mail in your mail directory to open it with your notepad. If you choose “no”, you will have to browse for the application to open the mail file each time you double click on the file.

Make sure to choose what works best for you.

Check out last week's tips

How to copy your custom Keyboard mapping to another server.

Go to the directory where you loaded StarWarsGalaxies. Go into the Profiles folder, you will see the list of accounts you have loaded. Go into the folder of the account you have the keymap you want to copy you will see a list of servers that account is tied to. Go into the folder of the server that has the keymap you want to copy.

Whew!!!

Now you are looking for the#.inp file. Thiscontains the keymap. I copied it and put it in theserver folder where I wanted the keymap. Then removed the existing #.inp file from the new server and changed the # of the copied file to the number in the new location.

Example:

\StarWarsGalaxies\Profiles\(profile name)\Kauri\1234567.inp was copied.

\StarWarsGalaxies\Profiles\(profile name)\Gorath\4444555.inp was deleted and replaced with the above file. This file was renamed to \4444555.inp

I wondered when the tips went this week?

You can also do /emptymail to delete all your mail.

There sre two offline mail readers:
SWG Merchant Email Processor
and
Star Wars Galaxies Email Reader

Also, /mailsave does not include any attached waypoints.

  • Color code your own name so that you cant miss your own name. Also stuff to color code is " tip " (note the spaces before and after tip), trade, and your guild tag.

  • Although old, use /bo tr to board a shuttle from the ticket vendor

  • Name the waypoints to your harvestors the name of the resource it is gathering so you dont forget when it changes

  • When accepting bank tips, make sure that the first and last name of the player is displayed or it could be a fake I was told this was fixed and now the email comes from "bank"

  • The command /guildr will not display your guild rank, it will remove you from your guild. /guilds shows you your guild status.

At first I didnt get the *cough*. Guess I am a little dense. Anyway, cool tip TH

Here's a tip:Instead of waiting at the computer for a shuttle to land, drop your ticket into the toolbar, and then create a macro that clicks that toolbar slot every 30 seconds. Then go make yourself a delicious snack, use the bathroom, call your mom, etc.

This might be mute after the macro change, but it's still helpful for now even with reduced shuttle wait times...

As a crafter I use /mailsave with a little program called "The Merchant's Friend" ... it's hugware (no cost, but you got to hug somebody if you use it).

Works great ... it's basically the type of program that /mailsave was designed for :-)
