They said 6 months.....

But so far they have not deleted ANY..

My thinking for the reasons why they are not deleting any is because they upgraded there HDD Space fo the storage of accounts so that if people come back in the future they have somthing to come back to.

SIM's Online is a game my girlfriend used to play and she took about 5 months off from the game. She decided to play again to see what was new and her house was "gone". along with most of here stuff...only some of her stuff was in her INV. i guess do to i limit of objects alowed to be saved...

She even looked up her house on the map and found it....the house was still there but it was no longer owned by her....it was owned by one of her room mates..who was a real life friend) who will never play again....so she could not get her house back....she asked a CSR if the house could be transfered to her...they said no...and explaned the reason why the room mate had the house in the first place is because she cancled her account(my GF) the house get passed down to the next roomate in line...(who is no longer playing so cant give permission to do so).

So with having to start over from almost scratch... (and she had a large very nice house)....she cancled the same day and has never played since...

------------------------------

My char is over 1.7 years old... If i had to take some time off from the game for money reasons..or moving to a location to work where playing the game is not possable....(like an Oil Lines out in the middle of Northern Canada).. If i worked for 6 months and came back and my char was gone..I would never play again either.... to much time and effort was put into this char..To have it wiped out just because SOE cant store a 50MB char( less or more?) ....but even then i have just 2 computers at home with a total hdd space of 750GIG's and i dont make $14,000,000 a year or more from anything...

Soif SOE can't pay for 50 tera-bytes of HDD space then they sure dont know how to run a business.

I guess why delete characters and their belongings? I do not think they use that much space up. I mean everything is copied code, so I guess what is the harm, plus more people will come back if they know all of their belongings will be there. If they ever did delete belongs, I think SOE should transfer everything on the bazaar. I would really enjoy purchasing some of those items.

I've seen that number thrown around too. However, I also have 3 guildmates who quit in May 2004 who's houses I still look at and had several friends who quit before the guildmatesdid who still have structures up. So...

Is there a definitive answer, somewhere, regarding the length of

time a character stays around before being deleted after canceling

the account.

There are plenty of people speculating on this but nothing written.

So please don't post any "I think it's", post a link to another thread if

you have it.

Thanks,

I have known people to leave for a year and come back and there house is still there AND the char is still there. Now that could change day to day, but if you pay your house out forever and cancel the account your house still stays.. Or have a friend pay your house and it still stays, I have done that for people. I think they just say that so you wont cancel your acct. People always come back and have the same char.

It has been said (I'm not sure if they have started to or not though) that after six months your character and everything that belongs to it will be destroyed.

The cancellation screen guarantees 3 months.

The Devs planned to purge 6 month old characters in October but never did. They promised an announcement before they do.

You're taking a chance with anything over 3 months but odds are that it still won't get deleted.

I cancelled 8 months ago, started playing again right after christmas - all there - except for all my houses, harvesters, rare loot (that was in the houses) etc, because the structures ran out of maintanance... of course.

My friend asked CSR (also cancelled his account for six months) if his character was still there and they said they have cancelled the cancellation of character when you cancel your account.

You still there?

Wow, that's interesting to hear. Not too worried about my belongings, just the character and skills. I'll just store the necessities in the bank and check back in 6mos.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I quit for about 7 months between last December-this July and my character was still around. But the other day I ran into a guy I knew way back around launch, made an insulting joke about how he used to wear kilts, and was met with angry demands as to what I was talking about.. as it was a complete newbie who'd been allowed to create a new character with the same name. Estimated time between when the original dude quit and the new guy showed up: 12 months.

So it's hard to say when or if you will be deleted, but I know it CAN happen.
