Sorry if thats a dumb question, but what does it do to a weapon? I saw some people offering their service to slice weapon, or some people selling sliced weapons, but I have no clue what it does. I currently use VB, would they be better if I had someone sliced them?

Smugglers working the slicing tree can slice a wepon or piece of armour.

You either need a weapon upgrade kit, or armour upgrade kit to attempt the slice.

Its a 50/50 chance to succeed (with no side effects if they fail except for the item being unable to be sliced again)

If you have equipment to assist your slice (FANs or Molecular Clamps) the probability of success can be increased to 100%.

Slicing a weapon will reduce the speed or increase the damage randomly, by a random amount.

For armour, if you slice it you can reduce encumbrance or increase effectiveness (again, randomly between the two by a random amount)

By 'reduce the speed' I mean the time between swings/shots can be reduced - the 'speed' number on the weapon drops, which in turn drops the time between subsequent shots.

Hey probably a really dumb question here...but...

I started using molecular clamps last night and I thought that my slices should work 100% with these. I am having worse luck with these than if I just guess red/blue. I am trying to do Terms, locked containers, and any weapons.

When I do a weapon and it fails (which is really like 80% of the time) I make sureI have at least 2precision knives, molecular clamp, and WUK in my inventory. I click on Slice from the radial menu, add the clamp, cut blue and bam it says my knife lost a charge and that the weapon will still work, but was not sliced and can never be sliced again. Obviously I dont want to start doing peoples weapons if I cant get this to work correctly.

Am I missing an obvious step here? Any help is appreciated!!!

Ok here is goes:1.Have a Clamp, WuK and 2 knives 2. Start the slice.3. Use a clamp. 4. Read what wire to cut. 5. Cut wire. 6. Cut other wire. And that is it.

read the FAQ, and your screen. it's a tool not an automatic thing.

quality doesn't matter during any point of your slicing experience.

I don't understand why this makes you or any other smuggler "unlucky". I really don't want to spend half my time looking for the best resources for Knives, Clamps, AUK's, and WUK's. Besides, if quality was a factor, then once everybody got the best stuff, there would be no variance in slices. The randomness of it is half the fun. The anticipation of finding out if you got the great 35% dmg slice or the dreaded 17% spd. Without that, Smuggler just turns into any other crafting profession. BORING.

Manik I have the same opinion as you, should be random and should not depend on the quality of the tools.

Could have just been a bad streak. I've had those and I'm not a master yet so for me bad is REALLY bad

Still, it always better than it was before we worked on it. Even that 13% speed slice to a TKA VK's last night.

I agree, but you assume that the quality of the components will be the ONLY thing determining the result of the slice. I would expect it would be a combination. For example (and I'm pulling the numbers out of the air here, just to illustrate a point):

Profession level:

Slicing 3 = a 10-15% improvement base

Slicing 4 = a 12-17% improvement

Master Smuggler = a 15-20% improvement

Ingredient qulaity:

Combined characteristics<200 = -50% improvement on slice result

Combined characteristics 200-400 = -20% improvement on slice result

Combined characteristics 400-600 = -20% improvement on slice result

Combined characteristics 600-800 = +20% improvement on slice result

Combined characteristics >800 = +50% improvement on slice result

Experimental effectivess

No experimentation = 0% improvement

Any % higher = 1/2 the effectiveness improvement on the slice.

Result:

A Level 3 slicer slicing a weapon with AVERAGE materials and unexperimented tools would get a slice between 10 - 15%.

A level 3 slicer using excellent materials (say overall 850) and no experimentation would get a result between 15 - 22%

A level 3 slicer using average materials experimented to 40% would get a slice result from 12% - 18%

A master Smuggler using POOR materials (Overall below 200) would get a slice result from 7 - 10%

A master Smuggler using below average materials (say overall of 350) and no experimentationwould get a slice result from12 - 16% (still better than a Level 3 slicer using average materials).

A master smuggler using Excellent materials and 70% experimentation (probably the best possible) would get a slice from 30 - 40%

Now those numbers are just off-hand guesses, but you could see that while it isn't NECESSARY to use good quality resources (usually the best you can find will have overalls around 700) taking the time to find the good ones will really help you out. But when it comes down to it (all things equal) a master smuggler will be able to outperform a Level 3 slicer even if they are using sub-standard components. Using very poor components should have a negative effect.

That said, I don't think clamps should have an effect (they either hold it or not). Knives I'm 50/50 on. I would think the majority of the effect should come from WUKs and AUKs.

the main problem, offhand, with any form of this is the complete lack of statisitics on the tools. any weaponsmith can make WUKs labled "98%" but you have no idea if they were made with bantha poodoo.

AND

your putting all of our skills ability in the hands of another class! the WUK should have Nothing to do with it. or we will all be slaves to Weaponsmiths who have plentyto call thier own allready.

if any form of experiementation should ever be implemented in our slicing, it better be on something smugglers own, not another profession.
