Thread: I <3 sorting! If you want the new items you pick up at the bottom of your inventory, don't sort.

With the newpublish (coming tomorrow) if you sort your inventory or Datapad by name or type, it saves the setting. I think this is great and very helpful. Good job Devs! Thanks.

However, some people are accustomed to having items that they pick up appear at the bottom oftheir inventory window. If you like it better that way, and don't care about item sorting, then don't sort your items. I haven't found a way to reverse the sorting process andonce you sort it stays sorted.

So if you have your Inventory sorted by Name and Type like I do so that all your armor is grouped together and all your weapons are grouped together and all your medicine is grouped together etc... when you pick up a Janta Knife (fro example) it won't appear last in your inventory window on the bottom. It will appear in order with the weapons. This may make it a little trickier to figure out what you just picked up and if you don't like it, make sure and not sort.

Personally I love having my stuff sorted. It makes stuff much easier. But just for your information...

•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

Eh, maybe I didn't explain it well...

I tested the inventory sorting on the Test Center and when you sortthe items in your inventoryit makes it so that when you pick something uptaht item is automatically put in order instead of at the bottom of your inventory window. Since the message doesn't mention what you loot when you loot something ("You have looted the corpse of all items"), it can be a little bit difficult to keep track of what you just picked up, since it is now sortedinto your inventory instead of at the end of it.

And none of this takes place until tomorrow's publishby the way...

I'm just saying that a few people complained that they couldn't tell whatthey picked up since it didn't show up as the last item in the inventory. The fix for that is never to sort your inventory.

Interesting, I was wondering about how looting would play into the 'Inventory sorting'. Thanks for the heads up, I'm sure we'll figure it out tomorrow....or maybe not.

Oh... and in case you didn't know that you can sort your inventory alphabetically or by type of item...

To do it, just click the "Change View" button at the bottom if your Inventory window. Then click the title of the column that you want to sort your items by. (Name and/or Type) Then click the "Change View" button again to return to the normal view. I like to sort mine by Name first and then Type so that everything is arranged alphabetically and grouped by the type of item it is.

It just makes it a lot easier to find all of your armor or weapons or certain types of resources... and so on...

Anyway, if the Developers add a system message that says: "You looted a Janta Knife" along with the "You looted the corpse of all items" it would make all of this a moot point really. The group loot message could be fixed and the person doing the looting could get the same message as everyone else gets when you loot something in a group or when alone.

Damn, I'm a rambler...

We used to have system group loot messages before JtL, then they stopped working. As did the group member has been incap'd/slain messages. However, they currently do not work and you don't know who loots what.

Bring back the system group loot messages, and add a more detailed loot message on your own loot and I might be able to live the with sorting thing.

It is almost as if the devs don't want us to hunt in groups, and I'm not talking about solo-groups. Here is what I see happening...

Lets say you are out hunting Night Sisters with your guildmates. You take one down and get the "you have completely looted..." message.

The guildmates start asking what was on it.

Ok, hang on a sec...

/opens up inventory and starts looking...

...a couple of minutes later...

Uh, I think it was this +2 Grenade Experimentation clothing attachment (which doesn't work BTW)

Wait, I might have looted that earlier...maybe it was this Rebel Orders 2/3 disk...no, I seem to remember that from earlier too...but then again, I loot a lot of those.

Was it this heavy duty leather? Maybe...or this clasp? Perhaps...what in the world did I just loot?

All this time your guildmates are waiting for you to tell them what you looted.

This will make dividing up loot a lot harder and does NOT promote group hunting.

When I first heard about the sorting thing, I figures things would continue to appear at the bottom until you sorted again. It would only make sense...

So there is no way to put it back how it was? Which worked fine for me /shrug.

Why change something that isn't broken and serves no purpose when there is so much broken stuff that urgently needs attention?

I never set the setting but it thinks I like things sorted by name. Now, how to change it back to the default? hmmmm.

I have to agree that it does not help dividing loot at all if you don't intend to search your inventory each and every time after you killed something.

I would very much like the option to have new things added again at the bottom of my inventory. For those who like their inventory sorted - fine - but I was quite content with the way it worked and I really did not like it at all when I found out that my inventory had been sorted without me having had a chance to prevent it.

Anyone figured out how sort by "icon" works? What's it going by, the name of the icon model in the game files?
