SEA’s (Skill EnhancmetAttachments) V. .01

If a Developer reads this & anything is Incorrect please state what so the community may have definitive guide to follow

This guide will be changing over time as information changes or becomes available, this is simply a "Current State Of" guide, this will eventually be converted into a Full Guide when this part of the game becomes mature.

1.) What are SEA’s & what does SEA stand for?

These are items that can be placed into sockets of Armor & Clothing that will grant the player with additional points to given skills, SEA means: Skill Enhancement Attachment.

2.) What are Segments?

Segments look excatly like Armor Attachments Visually, These are looted off of Animals & NPC alike and are not found in Loose Debris, Mag-Sealed Chests Skeletons or Anyother lootable location, These reduce Encumbrances on Armor when crafted in the Armor.
There are many things that can have segment loots, some of which include, but are not limited to are the following:

·Night Sister’s
·Sharnaff’s
·Brackaset’s
·Voritor Lizard’s
·Faamba’s
·Rancor’s
·Krayt Dragon’s
·Kimogila’s
·Kliknik’s

3.) Are there any other Lootable items in the game other than these that can enhance Armor?

Yes:

Recently there was a new armor introduced into the game, Referred to as “RIS”, this armor needs several items that are looted & are Very Rare:

·Woolymander Bone Fragment
·Gurk King Hide
·Peko Peko Albatross Feather
·Giant Dune Kimogila Scale

Here is the most complete thread on RIS:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=armorsmith&message.id=22263

4.) So now I know all about the looted segments & SEA’s; I have heard there are other items that give points toward professions skills, is this true?

Yes, Weapons & assorted other items can also have stats for professions built into them:
Example: Aa’Kuans on Talus have a few items they drop, Rings with Ranged Defense +5, Belts with Disease Resistances +10 & Shirts with Bleed Resistances +10, there are many more items capable of having these skills, please list Your findings to increase this list.
In addition to Skill enhancements; looted weapons sometimes have what’s called DOT’s on them, DOT means “Damage Over Time”, These DOT’s usually have limited uses rendering the weapon useless once the DOT is used up.

An example of a dot I have seen was on a Pistol:
·Damage Over Time:
·Type: Poison
·Attribute: Health
·Strength: 569
·Duration: 330s
·Potency: 207%
·Uses 12,991

5.) When adding Attachments to Your Clothing Armor & Assorted items such as Belts or Bandoliers, Placing more than one of the same skill on that item Currently does not function properly, Let me explain.

I.e. I have 2 Armor Attachments, One has +5 to rifle speed, the other has 2 skills; +5 to rifle speed and +2 forage on it, If I place both of these in say My Helmet, You lose +5 Rifle Speed, After doing several tests myself, I have found out that the 2nd stat always ends up being the skill that shows up, Even if there are more than 3 skills listed on them.

On this same note, If You place a +12 Rifle Speed & a +4 Rifle Speed in the same item, The lower of the 2 will simply disappear, Leaving You in this example at +12 Rifle Speed and one less socket.
If I simply placed 2 identical SEA’s in the same item I would lose the total of one & lose a socket both, The new total for both tapes will become the equivalent of the second tape, not because it’s a better tape or because it was placed in a certain order, But because you cannot place 2 Identical skills into the same item.

6.) The Total amount of points that can be awarded by attachments Looted items and/or Bio Engineered clothing is +25

So If You went out & had a shirt made with +25 to take cover on it, You now have the absolute Maximum possible to that skill over the Natural skill cap, Natural skill caps are Usually +100 per profession, but in some skill trees can exceed this.
+25 Recently confirmed by Thunderheart but debated as to what He meant by his basic statement, please see link below for that post:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=game_guides&message.id=105051#M105051 <http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=game_guides&message.id=105051>

7.) If you do not have a skill that a professions awards but an SEA gives you; that skill will not function***.

Argument: I want to be able to forage without ever investing into Scout at all, I go to the auction forums & buy a tape to place into My shirt that gives me the equivalent that the games gives me at Novice Scout, Should it be fair that I suddenly have the ability to Forage without having that skill?
Answer: No, if this were possible everyone in the game would have at least a chance to have novice of Every Profession Available!!

*** Not all skills require a profession; we will discuss these skill enhancements in #11.

8.) What are the most sockets one single item can have for these attachments?

4 is the maximum sockets per item, not one single person has come forth with items that bear more than this to my knowledge.

9.) What is the maximum possible sockets that is achievable?

Well, Lets just count how many items are socketable & able to be worn at the same time:
(Note: Pants cannot be worn under Leggins)

·Helm
·Chest Armor
·Leggins
·Boots
·Gloves
·Left Bicep
·Right Bicep
·Right Forearm
·Left Forearm
·Shirt
·Belt
·Bandolier or Backpack
·Total: 48 Sockets on You Maximum

10.) Do all items crafted come with 4 sockets?
No, You will need to ask the crafter of your choice specifically to make you a 4-socketed item if they do not stock them.

11.) Is there a limit to how many skills I can gain from attachments?
Sort of yes:

You must have the skill granted before you get its effects if the skill requires a profession state of you, So the amount of skills possible would take awhile to calculate as there are way too many variables that come into play here, The other main thing that limits You is, The Maximum sockets per item of 4, Problem is not all items are 4-socketed, They must be crafted specifically to get 4, Your best bet is to hire a Master!
The theoretical maximum skills would be that equal to the sockets Your clothing & armor have that You are able to worn x4 since +25 skill attachments have been documented in the game multiple times.
Since 48 sockets is the maximum possible wearable at any given time, 192 Different skills would be the maximum Theoretically possible but not realistic!

12.) I have an attachment that has a skill that I don’t see on any professions tree, does it work?

Great question, some skills have been removed from professions but still have not been removed from the code in the game & are still spawning, others just are not listed, These skills not listed are Passive & do not require a profession to function.
Example: Disease resists & Combat Bleed Defense

13.) I have 2 attachments that have similar names, (x) Resistance & (x) Defense, What’s the difference?

***Resistance SEA’s only slows down what they are meant to protect you from, ***Defense SEA’s help reduces the chance of whatever it is intended to.

*** i.e.: If I was hit by a bleed & had some Bleed Resistance SEA’s, the SEA would make me bleed slower, the higher these skills the better you will resist something, +25 still applies here so you already know your max.

***i.e.: If I was hit by a bleed & had some Bleed Defense SEA’s, I would have had a chance reduction of being hit, again the higher amount you have the better off, +25 still applies.

14.) Can I remove Skill Attachments once inserted?

No, Once inserted they will remain until that item decays to Zero!

15.) I have a backpack, it has sockets in it, but for the life of me I can not figure out how to insert the SEA’s, They just go inside of it if there is room, If its full, I just get the symbol for no.

I have asked so many people how to, that I no longer ask, its currently unknown if it even works, plain and simple.
Many people have tried various was to achieve this that are pretty interesting.
Ways I have either tried or have heard tried are:

Filling the pack up then trying to insert, doesn’t work
Dragging the backpack to the attachment doesn’t work

Different button combos while dragging & dropping such as:
Various combos of Control + shift + alt + tab + drag n drop do not work
All the above but with both mouse buttons
Put backpack in trade screen + drag n drop
Holding both alt buttons & various combos of shift & control doesn’t work

There should be no apostrophe after Nightsisters, Sharnaffs, etc. You're expressing plural, not ownership. Other than that, great post.

Great Post!

A couple questions:

-Weapon Repair and Grenade Assembly - are these useless?

-Mulitple mod SEAs are a hotly debated.. say you have a +2 pistol acc, +8 weapons experimentat, +10 droid assembly tape - only one skill enhancement gets used. I have heard the highest is used, the first, the second... etc... do we know for sure what is true? (And do the devs ever intend to fix this??!?)

This is a great post, but it is something that can't be addressed until the rest of the combat balance is done. WHen you see the new weapon arrangment and the HAM changes, it would be a good time to suggest this again.

I was reading a thread tonight that said some people are having odd results on the repair SEA's, Some say using them at all seems to give them more failures than not using them.

Grenade Assy., ya since they dont really cost much to make seems a waste but there should be SEA's for most attainable skills regardless since there are so many professions & so many skills each profession has, Seems only fair to give enhancements to them all no matter how dull they seem.

As far as the multi mods are concerned, I did a bit of testing & had mixed results too, I would like to gather a bit more information before I say one way or another but after seeing Thunderhearts remark about the combat balance & the new weapon arrangment , Maybe the Devs have somthing coming up soon?!?!

I will say tho, that I had several SEA's that had 2 stats & the 2nd allways showed & the 1st didnt, I even placed 4 per item to make sure the 2nd was what showed everytime.

Guess we will see soon enough.

Thunderheart, If You have a date in the future for the changesplease post here so I can start getting prepaired please.

Thanks

To give you an example, let's take one of the major smuggler concerns (top 5 issue). Smugglers have absolutely no pistol mods at the moment. Let's say the devs introduce new "smuggler_pistol_accuracy" or "smuggler_pistol_speed" classes, then they may have to rewrite the Pistoleer mods and make them "pistoleer_pistol_accuracy" etc.

Let us assume something like this happens, then any current SEA with just simply a "pistol_accuracy" attached to it will stop to work. Doing a profession check on a character wearing an SEA will not solve this problem as there are many Smuggler/Pistoleer hybrids and creating a system that will then randomly assign the "pistoleer_..." or "smuggler_..." mod seems a little unlikely.

I fear that Thunderheart is going to come back to this or your future thread with the bad news that old SEAs will no longer work due to the reasons above.

He, I doubt that they will introduce seperate Smuggler mods for pistols. Why would they? So smugglers can stack pistol_speed and smuggler_pistol_speed? pistol_speed would do the trick, no?

Thanks for the post QwiqShot. SEAs was one of the things I was not really sure about. Your post helped a lot
