Simple question, If my armour has 40% stun resist and my PSG has 45% stun does that make the overall resist 85%? If not, how is it done?

According to the Armorsmiths Guide it does not stack like you described.

Rather, the PSG acts like a first layer of defence, reducing the incoming damage type by its protective %, then the armor that you wear will apply its protective %.

----
Not properly a type of armor, these nevertheless provide armor-like protection. Personal shield generators, or PSGs, are a great little device that can save your life in a sticky situation. If you read above then you know now that wearing armor gives you a rating of light armor so that 50+% of the damage you take from AP0 weapons is absorbed by the armor (remember that only the damage that the armor is not vulnerable to).

When your PSG is active and you are hit with a damage type that it is not vulnerable to, the PSG will first reduce damage as if it were armor. The leftover damage is then further reduced by your armor. As you can see, this may result in a considerable amount of damage may be blocked. When wearing a suit of 90% composite (possible with a good effectiveness slice) and a PSG with bare resists (4-5%), you will take 2-3 points of damage for every hundred done to you. Even with lower resists on your armor you'll still take half the damage while wearing a PSG than you would without. This why SOE has made PSGs so fragile.

The drawback to PSG’s is their very low durability, meaning that they wear out very quickly. While they can be repaired, they still have very limited lifespans. Nevertheless, PSG’s can be a lifesaver in a variety of situations and are a good armor supplement in PvP.

39% stun armor + 60% stun psg + synthsteak = like 20 dmg a hit. To the good pvpers stun dmg sucks.

the damage is reduced by 40% then 45%. that's not the same as 85%.

Ok so I see how it works with resists... But what about the PSGs vunerability? will the armor still take the damage normally?

Yes, if the PSG is vulnerable to something and your armor has it, then your armor's resistance % will apply.

so if this is true and you have a PSG for 45% stun and armour for 50% stun, leaving the PSG at home means one more space in your inventory presumably ?

Same as anything else that's equiped in your inventory, so long as it's equiped it doesn't take a spot.

its also a question of maths....u cant just ad percentages together (well u can but the answer isnt a simple 2+2=4)

Look, I'm an armorsmith that has just started selling PSGs exclusively because they are so useful. Let me explain.

PSGs add an extra layer of armor. So you are effectively wearing 2 suits of armor for free. Weapon Damage first goes through the PSG, then the remaining damage goes through the armor. The same rules for armor also apply to the PSG.

If you had 2 playersAdam and Peter:

Adam is wearing a suit of armor with 50% Stun Resist.

Peter is wearing a PSG with 50% Stun Resist.

BOTH players have the same amount of protection against stun, so Peter has the advantage as PSGs have zero encumbrance (and are, of course, alot cheaper).

Now if you are wearing a PSG and Armor, the math becomes a little more complicated than addition.

Example:

Situation:

You have armor with Stun resist 33%.

You have PSG with Stun resist 10%.

You get hit 100 stun damage from an No-Armor piercing weapon (AP0).

1. PSG Automatically takes 50% off the stun damage because it is AR1 vs AP0.

Damage left =50.

2. PSG then takes 10% off the remaining damage.

Damage left =50 - 0.1*50= 45

3. Now your armor takes 50% off the damage because it is AR1 vs AP0.

Damage left = 45 - 45*0.5= 22.5

4. The armor then takes 33% damage off.

Final Damage =22.5-22.5*.33 = 15.07

With no PSG in the same situation:

Final Damage = (100-100*.5)*(1-0.33) = 33.5 (This is the same as saying 66% of 50% of the damage)

So a PSG with a measley 10% stun resistmore than halves the damage with no PSG!!

So for AP0 vs AR1 Armor and PSG, the final damage formula is:

Final Damage = (OriginalDamage*0.5)*(1-PSGresist)*0.5*(1-Armorresist)

this reduces to...

Final Damage = 0.25*OriginalDamage*(PSGresist-1)*(Armorresist-1)

For AP1 vs AR1 Armor and PSG, the final damage formula is:

Final Damge = OriginalDamage*(1-PSGresist)*(1-Armorresist)

Keep in mind in the above formulas (If it is not obvious), the variable PSGresist means thatif the PSG has a 10% resist, then PSGresist=0.1; likewise for Armorresist.

Hope this helps!

i've had the same PSG with 40% energy resistance equipped for 2 months now, it's still at its maximum condition and persnonally i don't think it reduces any of the energy damage i get
