Holos to help you find your way, but not all the way to become Jedi. That system was pain, but much better for SWG. When we had that system we had group hunts, more people in the NPC towns, more entertainers NOT afk, more doctors and less solo on many things.
Now we have no group hunts, 98% afk entertainers (most bots), doctors have become bots (still some real ones), we see more Jedi in towns then Marksman or any other normal profession, most players are in solo groups to grind xp all day...
And allmost everyday someone say they hate this grind or The Village missions for not working. More and more say they are bored and sad. More people take a break, some from the game and some until CU has come. And some players leave the game and never come back.
SWG is bleeding...
Some say the CU will help. I don't think so...

I hate the fact that to see any real progress, i'm forced to drop my prof and go nades. I tried as a TKM/Ranger but got no-where with it in ages.

I agree that the game is bleeding but it isnt from boredom... It is from lack of action by the devs for 2 years. there are so many broken professions it isnt funny. The CU is suppose to fix the combat profs but what about the non-combat the dancers are all AFK because they have dances that clip either in clothing or the dance itself is bugged.
I hunt alone not because I want to but because I can't make any money in a group. I can get 40k mokk misions if im in a group but only get paid 2k for them or I can get 20k Kliknik missions by myself and get all the creds. The group payout nerf is why no one groups. If I get in a group it is for the extra xp I get and not the creds.

I wasted an hour of my life and an hours worth of buff waiting for guildies to get together for a group hunt. I'm grinding commando for nades, so need xp, otherwise the wait wouldn't bother me. In the end I went off on my own. We need to be able to just go - without sooo much prep work.

Read the CU notes. There is hope in the near future, if done correctly, that will be a large band aid for all this.

that is simply so not true, afk entertainers cause the holos told em to go entertainer, buff doc bots are here just cause people figured out the way to do it. solo hunts went cause of the holos and people not wanting to share the xp so they can master their holos faster etc... etc...
many of the problems we have now in the game actually came from holos, before holos people weren't that much focused on a "fast" grinding cause there were no hurry, holos went and added a "hurry" parameter for every one who wanted to unlock, they wanted to do holo as fast as possible, and then grind any prof as fast as possible so they can get their jedi as fast as possible.
I've been here before holos, during holos and I'm still here and you're wrong, the problem you mention are here cause of holocrons.

Holos were just as bad for the game as the present system.
In fact, alot of the things that prevents us from just strapping on our armour and go fighting, especially PvP, will be adressed in the CU: Mindbuffs will be taken out, doc buffs only buff 10% and everyone can co-operate on killing the same target. In the present system people can't work together in combat - A rifleman is specialised in hitting mind, carbine in hitting action etc. but after the CU everyone can use their combat skills to full effect on the same HAM bar. This will greatly increase the potential of all the combat classes as all will have some kind of purpose.
As for griping about the current path to Jedi, then everyone is free to stop. Grinding is a choice, heck if you just play the game and have fun you'll become Jedi eventually, but just not when you have unlocked the quests, which is most peoples concerns. People are dismayed by the fact that they can't have Jedi here and now and will most likely grit their teeth or simply give up. Most of the people that make Jedi anyway, who aren't cut out for grinding will spend more time on their alt, since the Jedi grind is just too long or hard for them to take.
I think SWG is bleeding - but the doc is coming on a visit come CU

The hologrinding times had people doing professions one after the other without playing these profs at all. There were a lot more people at any prof but that didn't make them active. For instance there could be 100 image designers or squad leadersat a time but they didn't offer their services to the community. Once they hit the master box maybe they would keep it for a day tops and then start a new one.
Sure there were less jedi but not because people chose toplay different profs!

I think that most here that remember back when the game first started how much fun it was. No character was super powerful. No character could solo high end content. We grouped for our experience and credits. Not only did we group, but we went hunting with that group. Why you ask? We did that because we didn't have 2500+ buffs, if we knew what a buff was. We also didn't have 80% composite armor. We grouped together because we had to. My first group hunt was a group of about 5 marksmen + myself, a brawler and we went into agrilat swamp to hunt savage humbabas. We organized our attacks and when things went awry we scrambled so the creature couldn't kill all of us. Then we would have the leader mail us a rendezvous point and regroup. That was the time in the game that I had the most fun. I hate buffs being in the game. I think they are unhealth for the game, as well unrealistic. No buff can really give that much of a benifit. If the buffs were put into more realistic effectiveness then the 80%+ composite armor would be less of a problem. I think that the composite armor is fine the way it is. Don't believe me? Try wearing it without buffs. What I do think is an issue is that the other armors are not effective enough.
I agree that SWG is bleeding. The devs are doing a CU, but the combat professions are not the problem and I really hope that buffs are not overlooked. Group combat is what this game SHOULD be about. What we have right now is a compound of issues. We have buffs and can solo most of anything. It should not be that way. What we have is everyone soloing everything because we don't want to split the xp. Why do we want all of the experience to ourselves? It is because of the monstrous 7.6 million FS experience we need (which translates into roughly13 million weapon experience + 12 million Combat xp). We solo group (which is an oxymoron) to boost to xp because every little bit help. When we aren't solo grouping for xp we are doing missions without a group for money so that we can make the most money for our nade supply. Everything in this MMORPG revolves around being solo (and mind you that is another oxymoron as MMO means massive multiplayer online). We have AFK players because they are not enjoying what they are doing. If they enjoyed it they would not be AFK. Or maybe they are at the keyboard for a while, but the time they play is not adequate to get the insane amount of xp they need, so they get a large portion of it while AFK. The devs developed the game, intentionally or unintentionally, ot be played almost exclusively solo, except at the incredibly difficult dungeons like DWB or the corvette.
My take on making Jedi rare is that the current system is greatly flawed, though perhaps it hasn't been in place long enough to notice this, but if I understand correctly then all of your characters, given enough time and effort, can be FS and evena Jedi. I believe that Jedi would be more rare if the devs gave you 1, and only 1, Jedi to play on your account. As it is, I plan to have at least 2 on the same account. If you want 10 Jedi then you can have them (and I do realize that this would take an incredible amount of effort but with years to play yet to come it could be done). Eventually the Jedi will be even more ridiculously common. This would as a side effect also make people "grind" less, thus making most happy. The only bad side to this is that it would make people that worked so hard to get Jedi VERY angry. So I wouldn't do this now, but it would have been nice if it was that way to start with.
That is my 4 cents worth. Sorry for the long post, but I havea vision for SWG, and that is bringing real groups back, not solo grouping as we know and love it.

We might as well get ready for everquest in space, thats what it looks like ther egoing to with all the changes in combat, if anyonehas played eq2 or eq1 they would agree. I played eq for 4 and half years and swg from about 2 months from release and I do the bored thing and leave for awhile and come back seems after they put there new and improved publish in to give it a try lol. Think Iam staying this time for good or worse. I love teh JTL aspect, good chance to take a break from teh ground grind.

Have to agree with YamadaMan on this one... many (I won't go so far as to say most) of the issues we are dealing with come from th holos...
Back then ppl were grinding through professions just to grind through them... there was no connection between their desired template and the path to Jedi... in the new system there is still a massive grind (not sure I see a way around it though without making Jedi so easy to get it isn't special in any way), but the grind is focused on where your toon is headed... I want a kick but crafter and I am using the village to get force enhanced crafting skills... want to craft = craft grinding.
Many of my guildies want to fight = grinding combat
Kinda makes some sense
, unlike the holo that told me to become an entertainer... which, by the way, is why so many of the original entertainers quit the game... cantinas filled with ppl dancing for experience who didn't want to be there (so they weren't- AFK) soaking up the experience, tips, and fun from the folks who really wanted to be there...
Could there be improvements to the existing system, yes... but the path to Jedi doesn't seem (at least to me) to be a major problem anymore... now the force ranking system, the bugs in many of the crafting professions (that have been there since well before the holos), the group loot/credit system, and the general lack of visible presence from the Devs on these boards... those are hurting our game more than anything else I see currently
Just my 2 creds...
