I've been done with the village quests for well over a month now. I had 2 free unlocks. Being a casual gamer, I can only "grind" so much FSxp per week. Since the beginning of the Village, I've only mastered 1 other tree and am working on my 3rd box in yet another tree, still leaving me with 8 boxes left to fill. This sucks to an extent that I can't even possibly convey to everyone. I think I'm the only person who's been playing since Day 1 that doesn't have his Jedi yet.... And yet a Jedi is supposed to be attainable for evencasual gamers. I balk at that, and I balk at the devs.
They disgust me.
Your very upset veteran,

I agree its a shame I can't get Jedi easily...but it would be a bigger travesity if it actually was. I am a casual gamer and am chipping away at FS xp fairly slowly - I cap once every 2 or 3 days. It'll take a while and I am sure once I have template sorted I'll grinda bit quicker.
But I honestly believe that there is no conceivable system that the devs can create that allow a casual gamer to get Jedi quickly (or quicker than others) without a deliberate pre-determined bias to specific accounts.
DoI mind this? No not really - it should be hard, damn hard in fact, and it is.
As a casual gamer I went through KOTOR which was simply superb and gave me a great Jedi experience. In a persistent world it NEEDS to be difficult/awkward.
My only complaint would be to try and introduce a method of intrigue and mystery into the system - a known path is a little thoughtless but other than that I think the system accomodates the 'becoming Jedi' issue nicely.
The Devs aren't excluding and never proposed to exclude casual gamers from being Jedi - its perfectly possible. I had no free unlocks and have done 7 boxes since Sept 4th. I rarely go out to grind xp for just that purpose (maybe once or twice a week I'll buff up and go at it - and that qualifies for rarely in my book!) and have gathered FS xp as I play my character - AND while I have been switching templates!
Quite simply - Don't like it? Don't do it! Gaming should not be a chore.

Hey Kyp,
Long time no see.
I'm a fellow day one player that doesn't have jedi yet, although I'm getting close. (I just need 2 boxes) Have you read the threads on the grenade method for grinding xp? I think if you switch to that method, you will find the grind much less frustrating. It really does work. I started out grinding xp using rifles and it was horrible. I got to tier three of the first branch and was burnt out on the game. Grenades are your friend. If you don't have 4-x-x-x commando, it really is worth it. Trust me.
Best of luck, let me know if I can help you.

I forgot to say.....Even IF Jedi was handed to you on a plate - playing at a similar rate (ie a casual gamer) as a Jedi is even harder! Its more of the same once you do unlock - find a quiet corner of a quiet planet and grind!

that was why i wrote the thread asking for the lightsaber to be a PROPER JEDI-BASED QUEST instead of this bollox grind just so SOE can keep the peeps here without losing ALL the remaining player base.
just think, for one second, what in this game is keeping you here apart from the actual players themselves?
JEDI.
thats it, our goal of this game, to become a jedi.
others cheat, players powergame (i call them unemployed) and us the casual player, the player here for the long term. the roleplayer, the star wars nutters. thats what we ALL are.
yet, the whole system is geared up to GRIND...and GRIND more, and more and more...
no system to replace grind? LMAO at that one, honestly if the devs thought a bit more about a proper living breathing universe, they would not need to grind out jedi.
it could and should have been done quest based. here its easy, so what. make it exciting, jedi quest based missions, and heres the killer.
THE JEDI should STILL be perma death at Knight level.

Got to agree with you. I've been playing since launch did 20 profs and still dont have a jedi. SOE did state that casual players would have a chance - it just takes two years.

This is so true and I don't think people realize this. I was talking to a guildie about Jedi and stuff and he was under the impression that once a person 'unlocks' Jedi they will be 'uber'. I had to explain to them that the training saber is like (if not worse) than a cdef and it is even more challenging to get to a point where you don't get your *ss handed to you by a meatlump. He seemed very suprised when I told him this. All of these people that are complaining about how 'hard' it is to get to a jedi, or 'casual gamers' cannot be a jedi, even if they had a 'Jedi Hand out Day'I would be very suprised theywould make itvery far into the Jedi itsself, especially after being hunted down byBounty Hunters a few times and getting negative experience.
I find it funny whenver a new phase rolls around and people talk about getting the second visit from the old man these posts flair up. It's been my experience with every MMORPG I've ever played that it takes time and lots of work to get to where you want to be. When you finally get there it's like an accomplishment - acheving your goal that you set out to do is a great feeling, me personally I think the system is fine the way it is now, EVERYONE (Yes even the 'casual gamers') has the opportunity to become a Jedi. When you get there you'll appericate it far more than if it was 'handed out to you' - this is assuming you can survive through the 'Jedi Grind'.

just my two cents... my main goal in this game was never jedi... i started doing the quests because i got bored one day... if the only reason you play SWG is for jedi then yeah the universe is always going to seem a little bland and frustrating... i enjoy the worldi play in. admitedly there are major issues, but on the whole i have had a good experience so far..... and aren't jedi supposed to be patient? heh it's kind of funny how the people who are rushing towards jedi contradict the whole idea of it... unless of course you want to let the anger flow.... especially for someone like me who plans to be here for a long time i am in no real rush to finish jedi.. just more grinding to come after that anyways. part of me almost is more looking forward to having a new non force char to build up.... i do understand that having played from lauch you'd be frustrated to not have one... but perhapse that shows that jedi at one point wasn't you're main priority too?

You're not the only one. I'm a day 1 player with no Jedi. I got no free unlocks, so I started a new character to do the quests with so I wouldn't mess up my proud Smuggler, and I'm one phase (3) and about 3 months away from finishing this grind (if I work very hard at it).

I just started my 3rd account and been playing since day 1, no free unlocks and two toons gong for jedi, each has about 8 boxes filled, 2 branches each and a few low level boxes. I only want one jedi, the other toon I just want the extra toon and lots, I started this 3rd toon for lots and slowly working on my own mind buffer with the 3rd toon.
As previously stated, if you think its to hard then maybe its not for you? I agree that there are to many jedi now and I fear that when I do make it I will lose interest in the game, I am even more than a casual player, but I try not to grind, maybe 2 nights a week I will max out with each toon, the other nights I am moving harvesters or hanging out with friends doing PvP, it stinks there's no experience for PvP!! My point there is that when I do become a jedi, I hope the game is still fun as it is now, I really never get bored and wish I had more time to play than the 3-4hrs a day I average now, even more on the weekends.
I also thought about trying the crafting parts of the force skills, then when I read up on it, thats some crzy insane exp to grind for the crafing!! I will be sticking to senses exp and combat!!
Personally I think this method is better than guessing which professions to pick, at least I can be a TKA and grind exp then take it into jedi, I know people that unlocked with merchant with the old system, they had nothing but artisan and crafting skills, then the jedi with no skills, and a crafter they just grinded out, no real use for the crafter, now if you wanted a crafter in the end it would work out ok I guess.

I am a casual player, and I can cap in about an hour and a half in the right locations. The problem is I dont want to do the same thing everytime I log on, so I am only capping every two times I play. So it is going slow for me as well. Oh well at least I am not hating it.

I think a few of you misunderstood me, and I thinka few of you understood me perfectly. I do not expect the grind to be easy (nor do I expect being a Jedi to be easy - I know it won't be). But the fact that we all have to GRIND our way to be a Jedi and then REALLY GRIND to become a Jedi is what's bothering me. Why make 2 grinds? I think the whole system was borked from the very beginning, as I think most vets will agree. It sucks. It shoulda been quest based...which is indeed whatall of us thought at the beginning of the game.
I play this game because I enjoy it, sadistically enough. I love the people I meet and play with, and I work towards that ultimate, seeminglyunachievable, goal of holding my very own glow-stick.I am indeed a Star Wars Nut/Afficionado/Lunatic/Fan or what have you, and immersing myself in this universe for however long I can per day is wonderful. I just think it's a shame that the developers turned what could have been a pinnacle of gameplay (= attaining Jedi) into perhaps one of the most daunting chores within a game I've ever heard of or experienced.
And to junior whats-his-nuts who said he sees "these kinds of posts every time the phases change" - Sonnyboy, I've seen more than you can possibly fathom in this game, and you have no right to pass judgement on this post and my experiences in SWG till you been in game for AT LEAST one year. Chew on that for a bit before you even dare think about philosophizing your own conclusions.
And to everyone else, thank you for your kind words of encouragement and support - in a sick sort of way, I'm kinda happy that I'm not the only "loser" still stuck in a non-Jedi hell.
hehe.
Oh yes, Jphillips, wassup bud!yeah, been doing the 'grenadegrind' myself...just gone extremely poor with it. Spent well over 2mill on grenades so far. Which even goes to show how much money I spend in game trying (in vain) to speed up this hellish grind. haha. Serves me right, I guess.
Anywhoo....good luck to all of us. We'll all get there someday. Course, we'll prolly all be arthritic and limpd!cked by the time we are, but hey...better late than never, eh?
