Thread: Jedi? What about Witches of Dathomir and Sorcerors of Tund?

Jedi are great. Jedi are fun to play. But... when I play Star Wars d20, even more fun for me that playing a jedi, is playing a "force adept."

For those of you that don't know, a force adept is someone that learns of the force, and learns how to use it, but doesn't have formal JEDI training... If one wants to play a Witch of Dathomir, one takes "Force Adept" class. If one wants to play a Sorceror of Tund, one takes the Force Adept class. Picking and chosing your skills, feats, and prestige classes is what makes you a "Witch of Dathomir" instead of just a Force Adept, plus of course background and roleplaying. Nightsisters are NOT jedi... they are force adepts...

So... WHERE ARE THE PLAYER FORCE ADEPTS?

How many out there want to have force powers, but don't want to be constrained to the JEDI TEMPLATE? I know I can't be the only one that feels this way.

Personally, and I know this isn't probably popular any more that it already is now, but I'd like my character on Bria, Racquel Babylon, to be Master Teras Kasi/Master Dancer, and then have some force powers that are not jedi specific... like I don't want a lightsaber, but I'd like to have some similar abilities, ala the Force adept can "imbue weapon with the force" which increases the damage and allows it to withstand lightsabers and bypass DR like a lightsaber... make "lightsaber" damage into "force" damage and let people chose to learn lightsaber, or to imbue other weapons... something... part of this is the developers jobs, to make this work within the context of their game, but please devs, consider the possibilty of the non-jedi force user being something more than an NPC only thing...

I like the idea of Force Adepts being able to change weapon damage types if thats what you meant. Maybe that could be some kind of Force Crafting thing, for FS WS's to do, at the cost of damage, or speed, or something.

Interesting thought, would make PvP more of an unknown, after all fighting a TKM with 80% Kin Comp is part of the battle.

Ok Other Melee Profs can use different damage types such as stun/kinetic for fencers and Kinetic/Electric/Energy with Pike etc etc.

If a TKM could change his VK so do a different kind of damage then would open up a world of possibilities.

I can't say as I'd agree with the damage changing. Enhanced damage or speed, durability, maybe even a lower HAM cost. Changing damage types is only going to lead to trouble. (2000 people with Stun T-21 rifles anyone?)Everyone will be running around with the same weapons that are the fastest, high damage, therefore taking away the reason for weaponsmiths to create different weapons. Even with this though, I've seen the same concept suggested for the smuggler revamp, and to me it makes more sense for smugglers to be able toalter weapons like this. (Sorry if I misunderstood oranything)

Ido like the concept of the Witches or Sorcerers though. Especially if they have other abilities other than those of the jedi. I see the Nightsisters have their own polearm in the game. This would be an awesome craftable weapon for the Nightsister class, especially if it had some of the same variables that the looted ones do. Don't know anything about the D-20 system as I've never played it, but the Sorcerers sound interesting. At the least it would offer something different from the Village grind!

(Just how does one join the Sith Shadows anyway..............those village people annoy me!)

Not just that... I mean just over all... I mean Nightsisters are NOT jedi... yet they have many "jedi powers" if you go by Star Wars Galaxies... so... in order to be able to get the same powers as a Nightsister... you MUST be a dark jedi... then... you are a dark jedi and not a nightsister...

Actually, the "force tradition" I'd like to see most is Zeison Sha... I love them... They don't forgo emotion, but they warn against the dark side, and if a Zeison Sha falls to the dark side, the other Zeison Sha hunt them down, and either they return to the light, or they are killed... they DO kill their prisoners if they refuse to return to the light... They are described in WotC's "Hero's Guide" and you can find some armor with their name on it in KotOR 2... I love that armor, pretty much wore it the entire game on my main character... light side and dark side characters LOL.

Also, Force Adepts do NOT change the damage type... they merely add damage dice... and only non-powered melee weapons... so like a curved sword you could maybe increase the damage by like 10 points... whatever... depending on your skill levels... but I mean more than that, I mean look up the Zeison Sha and the Baran-Do (They are like Kel Dor pre-jedi force tradition, and some Kel Dor still are Baran Do and not jedi)

Yeah cept as it stands you will NOT get any force powers, just some minor skill bonuses... to get actual POWERS... you must drop TK and take Jedi Padawan...

Cool idea, but I don't think it would do anything positive for this game. I've always vewed force use by any not strictly disiplined as self destructive, look at Vader. TO add PC force users other then Jedi would be a huge error, creating many more problems then it would solve, IMHO. The Devs have full plates now, adn Jedi needs major work, all we don't need is another force using profession in the game.

Hey! This would even be better for the GCW, since a force-adept could be considered neutral!

Of course, Jedi should be Light Side, Dark Side rather than Rebel/Imperial... and this fits that!

So we can have Rebel vs.Imperial (and Neutral) separate from Jedi vs Sith (and Force Adept).

Heck, same way JTL factions are restricted (Reb + Privateer, Neutral + Imp. Pilot), you could make combinations restrictive- Rebels might be Jedi or Adept, Imps might be Sith or Adept, and Neutrals (in the GCW) could be Jedi, Sith, or Adept.

Makes total sense. Heck there's even an amount of balance inherent to it... Oh wait, there isn't going to be balance in the force till Palpatine is thrown over the railing..

This kinda struck me, and I'm not 100% sure I understand. You want force powers, but not jedi powers?

When you bring up the NS (or the FS NPCs of Dantooine, or SMC for that matter) I'd suggest that you could be like them. They're mostly just Swordsmen/Wielders, Pikeman/wielders, etc. You can create the same templates. By saying that you have to be a Padawan to do it...well, that's just semantics... It's not as though you undergo any real training...you just kill a TON of stuff and talk to Mr special medic trainer for your next skill.

Basically, I think it's all in the way that you play your character. Just because you can create a complete jedi template doesn't mean that you have to. Just because most people create a complete jedi template doesn't mean you need to.

What would be interesting would be incentives for players to create mixed templates like this. For instance, they could make it so that when you unlock you could open a single row "FS Skill Tree" for each standard combat class with different specials, maybe a nifty (but not all powerful) new weapon cert. The main problem, however, is that the jedi skill trees are basically designed to make it impossible to dabble with their skillpoint allocation. The devs have sided against you, and seem to feel that you're either a full jedi or not. I can't say as I disagree with them since dabbling is what causes skills to be abused, then nerfed to oblivion (see here the BH profession and dirty fighting tree).

In conclusion, I'd say that you can play as a non-jedi force sensitive. It's all in how you RP it. The main reason that you don't see more mixed templates is probably that you need to get 0044 sabers to grind effectively, and by that point you don't want to give up sabers once you get the other skills. It would be interesting to see some hybrid templates though...in a horrible carwreck sort of way... I shudder to imagine a CM streaking by with FR3 as he poisons and diseases a base defense group. Or a rifleman kiting someone with FR as he spams strafe2 or headshot3. Or almost killing what you think is another run of the mill stacker to suddenly have him use avoidincap. I'll stop now as I'm scaring myself and might be giving people ideas...
