Cool idea, but I don't think it would do anything positive for this game. I've always vewed force use by any not strictly disiplined as self destructive, look at Vader. TO add PC force users other then Jedi would be a huge error, creating many more problems then it would solve, IMHO. The Devs have full plates now, adn Jedi needs major work, all we don't need is another force using profession in the game.
Yeah, but the thing is, there are more dark jedi than dark force witches... Why is that? NO EMOTION. DO NOT HAVE EMOTION. DO NOT LOVE, AS THAT IS AN EMOTION. Anyone else see the Jedi Code as horribly flawed? It would enhance the game, not hurt it... Jedi are cool... but I think personally the code is the reason there are so many dark jedi... I mean seriously, don't give in to anger? Good idea. Don't have any emotions? Bad idea.

This kinda struck me, and I'm not 100% sure I understand. You want force powers, but not jedi powers?
When you bring up the NS (or the FS NPCs of Dantooine, or SMC for that matter) I'd suggest that you could be like them. They're mostly just Swordsmen/Wielders, Pikeman/wielders, etc. You can create the same templates. By saying that you have to be a Padawan to do it...well, that's just semantics... It's not as though you undergo any real training...you just kill a TON of stuff and talk to Mr special medic trainer for your next skill.
Basically, I think it's all in the way that you play your character. Just because you can create a complete jedi template doesn't mean that you have to. Just because most people create a complete jedi template doesn't mean you need to.
What would be interesting would be incentives for players to create mixed templates like this. For instance, they could make it so that when you unlock you could open a single row "FS Skill Tree" for each standard combat class with different specials, maybe a nifty (but not all powerful) new weapon cert. The main problem, however, is that the jedi skill trees are basically designed to make it impossible to dabble with their skillpoint allocation. The devs have sided against you, and seem to feel that you're either a full jedi or not. I can't say as I disagree with them since dabbling is what causes skills to be abused, then nerfed to oblivion (see here the BH profession and dirty fighting tree).
In conclusion, I'd say that you can play as a non-jedi force sensitive. It's all in how you RP it. The main reason that you don't see more mixed templates is probably that you need to get 0044 sabers to grind effectively, and by that point you don't want to give up sabers once you get the other skills. It would be interesting to see some hybrid templates though...in a horrible carwreck sort of way... I shudder to imagine a CM streaking by with FR3 as he poisons and diseases a base defense group. Or a rifleman kiting someone with FR as he spams strafe2 or headshot3. Or almost killing what you think is another run of the mill stacker to suddenly have him use avoidincap. I'll stop now as I'm scaring myself and might be giving people ideas...
No, it's not just semantics... If you are a Jedi, you CANNOT be a Teras Kasi... Jedi costs too many points... THAT is my point... one cannot be a Nightsister, because a Nightsister is, in effect, a DARK JEDI MASTER AND MASTER PIKEMAN... but they dont' USE their lightsabers... They aren't just pikeman... they have force powers... they are NOT jedi nor should they be treated as such, yet in effect they are just Jedi that don't use their lightsabers...
They can figure out some ways to make it work, but why must one be a master of a lightsaber to be able to do force lightning? They have nothing to do with each other, but as it stand now, you must master every tree to advance to the next level of force powers... So, why don't the Nightsisters use the lightsabers that they MUST be proficient with? Oh they are NPCs and so don't know how to use one...
As for abusing, well, maybe the combat "upgrade" will fix things, but honestly, this game has been broken since beta, and unless the devs manage to finally do what they tried to do many many times in beta, it will still be broken...

funny you should say that, my end game template is TKM/Force powers and whatevers left over to strengthen me
Yeah cept as it stands you will NOT get any force powers, just some minor skill bonuses... to get actual POWERS... you must drop TK and take Jedi Padawan...
uh, totally wrong. Padawan does not take ANY skill points. You have enough sp to be a TKM and have Master Force Powers if you wish.

Been away so I missed this one, but I suggest you look at a character builder. You can indeed be a Wielder/master pikeman. You can be a TKM/Master wielder. Most of what you talk about are force powers from the Wielder tree of jedi. You wouldn't need to become a "Dark jedi master" along with pikeman since you were just saying that you don't want to be a jedi. O_o
In the old system, you would be right. Jedi took 250 sp for the first box and the rest just took XP and no SP. Now they all have SP and you could balance profs quite neatly actually. Like I said though, you would probably need a saber to level with in the beginning, then drop that again once you've attained what other skills you want.
Frankly, CM is more SP heavy than jedi trees, but that doesn't stop even brawlers from dabbling in it to DOT for teh win. What you are suggesting is a way to take any semblance of balance that might be created in the CU and throw it out the window by creating yet another means for power gamers to attain an insurmountable advantage over all other players. Legendary T21 rifles that do 3k damage are bad enough, despite being insanely rare, but the sort of thing being discussed here (unblockable attacks, abilities to further enhance weapons, new damage types, etc) would basically be like handing any power gamer that did the village grind a legendary weapon. Jedi skills are nice, but they're balanced with weaknesses (lack of armor for example), whereas additions to normal professions would simply put them out of reach.
