First of all you need to answer this question, is are you after a jedi because you want to be more powerful than other players in general, or is it just a simple ambition or desire to roleplay a jedi? If the answer is to be powerful forget it, you might as well make yourself a TKA/doc with a few other skills from the other brawler professions. You're just as powerful and you don't even have to worry about a force bar.

Anyways to answer your question. Once you become force sensitive you have to gain FS skills, which will slowly replace a small minority of your general template skills. It'll cost 24 skill points in total. Once you completed the village exit question, you will see additional professions in your skill window, these are Lightsaber, Jedi Defence, Force Wielder, Force Enhancer and Force healing.

You will still have your old skills at the point of finishing the exit quest and the subsquent padawan trials, but as you begin to gain jedi experience you slowly start to replace your old skills with these new jedi skills. It's similar to just general profession swithching just with new skills being available to you.

Your second character will not become available until you complete your padawan trials.

/agree 100%

Either way, I'd suggest playing the game for at least 6 months before even trying to become a Jedi. I know the idea of being a Jedi is very tempting, but there are a lot of other fun things to do in this game, and it's easy to miss out on the fun things if you're spending the majority of time grinding for Jedi - easy to get burnt out that way.

But of course, it's your money and your game, so do whatever you think is fun.

But if you will go the jedi path right away, is ther 2 temps that are good to have.

Defens- master teras kasi and master doc. this gives you good defens when grinding and against BH.

Offens- master rifle and master doc, this gives you some defens whit the healing and some power to kill the BH.

BUT, asa noob jedi you are easy bounty 4 a MBH, so my advise is to take the templet you like to play whit!

Hope that helps!

i've been playing swg for about a year and a half now and kept away from jedi, wanted to have fun with the game and enjoy it first before i approached the jedi angle. i'd recommend going about 6 months of playing the game, learning the templates and also getting used to pvp since the BH element will require some training. its been a year and a half for me of playing and enjoying the gameandfinallyin the next phase (when corbantis shifts to phase 4) i'll finally be able to unlock.

Sorry I'm new to SWG. First question... So, my main character is the one who will become the jedi? I thought the alt did (dang confusing game). Ifthe main is to be the jedi, should I already have a melee focused template before becoming a jedi or does it matter? Does thejedi have a whole different set of skills and the old professions are just dropped? I really wish SOE made more sense of all this. I've been trying to comb the forums to understand all this, but to no avail. Would someone be willing to explain how this works (I've alreadyfound the info in the forum related to glowy, trials, etc.)?

Thank you for your patience with my basic questions.

Thank you to all who answered my questions. For those who asked, my intent it to become a Jedi because it is the type of character I want to play. The "power" of a class doesn't matter as much to me, as long as its playable (PvE and supporting my faction/guild in PvP). My intent has also always been to play for awhile and build up my experience and CL before going too far down the Jedi route (I just want something to look forward to). Since I am not "still in school" and actually have to work for a living, it will take me some time togrindto Jedi anyway (not a lot of time to grind when you have RL responsibilities). So, I don't want to wait too long to get started (the game universe might end before I reach Padawan).

So for the rest of you who just shot flames, you can let up on the "noob" bashing. Everyone in SWG was new to the game at some point and was likely feeling out the game to see what type of character they wanted to play. Its all supposed to me fun, right?

Thanks again, all.

Everyone has a choice and we should let them have that choice. Jedi should not be limited because new players should get that choice... to answer your question, I'd get something like TKA for grinding and it's a good skill to have once you go Jedi (last thing you should drop). Then get anything else that will help you get tons of xp (Novice elites but make sure you master another prof), then you will be able to cap tons of stuff and then you will have the grind down, healing is probably good too if you are planning on soloing combat quests.

That's cool, and it sounds like you have the right attitude about it. I think the people that play Jedi for RP purposes rather than to be "uber" will have a lot more fun with it and will take the time to learn how to play their character well. I just hate to see people burned out on SWG because they spend their entire online life grinding for Jedi instead of doing fun things like guild hunts, GCW PvP, etc.

To answer your question, I'd just pick a double-mastery template that fits your playstyle. If you like melee, go for the melee professions. If you like ranged, go for the ranged professions. Honestly, as a young Padawan, you're probably not going to stand much of a chance against a decent BH regardless of your pre-Jedi template because they can out-damage you and out-heal you. By the time you can stand toe-to-toe with a decent BH, you won't have very many of those pre-Jedi skills left anyway. I think it's much more important to pick a template you enjoy playing because it will make the grind more bearable.

There are only a couple of things I think your should consider. First, youshould pick a double mastery so you can get to CL80 - the FS quests are much easier to do as CL80 and it's so much easier to get into a random grind group. Second, I would pick up at least the 4xxx line in CM. You could always pick up stims instead, but I really find the innate ability to heal invaluable in all aspects of the game. Third, you want to try to pick a template that emphasizes several different types of XP so that you can bank more XP per village trip. BH is a popular ranged one because it lets you cap at 900k on three different ranged weapons types. Fourth, keep in mind that you need to invest 24 SP in the FS skills before you can do the Padawan Trials. You can just bank all the FS XP and then train in the 24 FS skills all at the end, but depending on where you are, you might have to change your template a bit to fit those in.

I did my FS grind with Master BH/Master Pistols/CM 4000 and was able to bank 200k FS per trip to the village (before the combat conversion ratio change). Right before my last phase, I plan on switching to Master Rifles/Master Pistols/CM 1000 so that I can fit in the 24 SP for FS. This will give me the ability to heal as a Padawan starting out, training 4xxx Force Healing while dropping CM.

The big problem now is that the Jedi influx has seriously hindered the PvPers, much in the same way the PreCU melee stackers did. Non-Jedi S.F. will ALWAYS get gankedfirst because the Jedi just want to get them out of the way before going after the "REAL" targets... other Jedi. This sends a message to anyone interested in PvP that "if you want to compete, become a Jedi. Otherwise, you're just saber-fodder."

Thanks for the feedback, Bunny. Right now I'm headed toward MBH/MRifle/CM4000 (still have a ways to go though). It sounds like I could probably just start giving up the BH SP as I need to for FS. I did contemplate going TKA, but only if I'm going to need it. If its not a must for eventually going Jedi, I'll stick with plan A.
