Thread: Why Do Jedi only get to Use Lightsabers?

not saying we should give everyone lightsabers, but think about this from a Logical point of view
#1) How hard is it to swing a glowing stick around? (Fencers do it quite welll, why not lightsabers too?)
#2) knowing that we cant do the jedi specials..why cant other professions (such as the ones who use similar weapons to lightsabers) use those?
i dunno, all i remmeber was that a smuggler had a Lightsaber in a star wars book, and some people had it(and used it...well not really) but why is a Lightsaber a "Jedi can only hold and have this weapon"? why cant people like the FS or any other profession use it? i mean its not like we are unable to hold it or turn it on!

#1: Lightsabers are meant to be a weapon only usable with great skill because you're essentially fighting with a glorified flashlight - the "blade" has little to no mass as it radiates energy, thus not making it solid matter, making the weapon more clumsy to handle than a solid blade.
#2: Because loot requires tuning of at least a color crystal - non-Jedi can't tune loot and Jedi can't tune loot and then cede it to someone else - it doesn't work.

Please ignore any Star Wars books you have read and just enjoy the game. You want to use a Lightsaber? Become a Jedi. Simple.

My answered followed, but I'll add that Han used it, but he was very CAREFUL. You just have to have Force reflexes (not the skill tree) to use such a deadly weapon. Kind of like... SWORDCHUCKS!

actually once i unlock jedi i'll still be using my VK on occasion for a while. It takes so long to master LS or become efficient, I dont see myself taking down any high end MOBs with a LS for quite some time.

Basically the reason you need to be in touch with the force to handle a saber is such...A lightsaber is essentially a laser chainsaw, acording to the technical specs in my Star Wars book the beam is repelled electrically then attracted after a certain range. Thus giving it a Chainsaw effect. There is a big difference in using a weapon that will cut you if you mess up and one that will Bi-Sect you if you mess up.

you really misunderstand, i dont want them ingame (unless to get them its almost impossible, or FS becomes almost impossible, or its nerfed so bad no one wants to use em, but will be teh only way to get Force EXP), but im just asking how that makes sense where no one but jedi can equip, use, or even own them... it just doesnt make sense to me

SOME do (some exceptions) but many dont.. /sigh the entire FS system is messed up, and having a lightsaber WOULD draw more customers, but the sight of seeing 300 lightsabers in town scares the bejesus out of me. and Force Sensitive technically have the force, but we can sorta..not use it... :/ well... Sabers are essential to training jedi, and so is the force, we get neither, but i guess its ok... so..many lightsabers ...*shudder*

Han also found out later that he was Force sensitive.
Jedi are the only ones to use lightsabers because, as someone mentioned earlier, there is no weight to the blade.When you see a Jedi using a saber, he is essentially just swinging a handle and using the Force to guide his strikes and not kill themselves.
According to canon, part of the padawan trials are to build a saber from scratch. It is said that only a jedi, through manipulation of the Force could place the crystals properly.
One a side note, how many people do you think would stop at FS x/x/x/x just so they could use a lightsaber? Would be pretty silly.

It's an interesting question ..
I imagine if something like a working lightsaber were constructed it would be something like an *extremely* high-intensity multi-focal energy field generator, in a very small high tech package. The field is to control and return the high power generated light packets. I would imagine it possible that such a device when being operated could actually bemore difficultto control in motion than a mere unenergized solid object. I could also imagine that it might be easier to control if a person could exert mental influence on the very fields and energy involved, to make a easier or straighter path through space in a certain set of sweeping motions.
But the real answer to your question is that your question is wrong, in that Jedi don't only get to use lightsabers. True, light Jediuse lightsabers exclusively (I think). Presumable the lightsaber, being the most dangerous short range weapon, being perfectly suited for self-defense if one can sense actions around them, and being the only weapon that can counter another lightsaber, became the obvious only weapon of choice for trained force users, as soon as it was invented. (i've got no idea if some EU book covers that). Dark Jedi use lightsabers *and* raw force manifestations such as Force Lightning, Choke, etc. It seems to me those are more aggressive weapons so it fits ..
