Thread: Why Do Jedi only get to Use Lightsabers?

i dunno, all i remmeber was that a smuggler had a Lightsaber in a star wars book, and some people had it(and used it...well not really) but why is a Lightsaber a "Jedi can only hold and have this weapon"? why cant people like the FS or any other profession use it? i mean its not like we are unable to hold it or turn it on!
The smuggler was a spice addict. I read the book also.
Because a person must be able to harness and use the force or else they put themselves at more risk than their opponent.

lightsaber is much more difficult to use then a sword. it has no noticeable weight at all so you could never feel where it was in position to your body except for by the angle you hold the handle or with the force. combine that with the fact it would easily chop of your arm or head with little swinging effort and you realize why only jedi use the weapon.

Well, they say the only way to get a lightsaber is to take it off a Jedi...usually a dead Jedi.
Jedi on Jedi is almost always gonna result in somebody's saber being destroyed. Darkies take them as trophy's or Lighters destroy the evil artifact...take your pick. Maybe a Jedi has some Death Power that allows them to channel their last bit of living force into the thing to fry its circuits since you almost never read about people claiming one after killing a Jedi.
And how many folks would have the cojones to display evidence they killed a Jedi as they walk around a city where more Jedi might be...and who might recognize it and be a touch annoyed at you for killing a friend?
The simple truth is, getting a live Saber after the death of its owner is nigh impossible.
But you can indeed own a dead one in the game! I just wish you could maybe make "dud" sabers for home decoration and maybe to equip as a fist-type weapon with crap stats and no lightshow...
And you went Overt to Jedi and BH's for wearing it....

Note, also, that the Imperial Republican Guard wield Force Lances... They are merely veteran stormtroopers, and not necessarily force sensitive

I don't see the problem with any player using a lightsaber... I have never had the skill to use a flamethower properly, but I have fired one, I fired lightning cannons... infact I have never had a ranged skill but I have fired lots of ranged weapons BADLY!!!
So why can't you use lightsabers BADLY... It would also make a nice trade item for Jedi's to sell. I have just unlock jedi and will soon craft my first lightsabre (For me).
People decorate their houses with all kind of weapons so why not lightsabres?
Just think they could be used (Well held and waved around) by anyone, but only made by Jedi's (Maybe they could even randomly wound non-jedi who try to use them?
Anyway no need to flame anyone who has a question.. (Its not the Jedi way)

Theoretically, there's no reason you couldn't use an already-crafted LightSaber, but you certainly wouldn't be blocking a blaster bolt with it. However, the newest (cleverest) LightSaber design in the books uses a Force-activated switch to turn it on, instead of a regular/button switch. Makes one wonder why they didn't make them all that way, it would seem the logical way to do it.

are you even paying attention to what im saying? #1) i have stated 3 times: I do NOT want lightsabers to be a common item (unless to players they are useless), #2, swordsman do the same thing, sure it woudl be a little different (like the difference between a bokuto (sp?) and a shinai and a Katana, they are similar but different, but it is NOT hard to use it) and as someone has posted you can use them badly.. such as, if you weild a 2 handed sword without a brawler skill you still can hit them, and not cut your own arms off (which in RL is kinda hard). Also... WE are force sensitive yet we cannot use them. all im asking is, why someone who has the knoledge to wave a stick around and not cut his arms off cant do the same with a flashlight. when push comes to shove, missing the blade can be a bit harder, but its not that, especially if you KNOW how to handle it. the only way i would approve of having a FS use a lightsaber or force powers is if the radicaly change the system to #1 make it harder to become FS #2 long long long quests (maybe part of the 'fs system') to get it) and #3,they worse than a HARused by a MasterImage Designer, but would be easier..or maybe essential to getting jedi(but it would have to be extremely regulated, like.. i dunno Jedi can take away the sabers from them if they abuse it? i dunno).

Oh sure, let's let the force sensitives who aren't even padawans use them. Let's also make them show up on the BH terms, lose exp when they die...you get the picture.
I don't have a jedi, but the ability to even equip one is reserved for a jedi and rightly so.
