I finally did the math. I'm a casual SWG player but have played since beta and I do remember the dev's saying that even a casual player could still attain jedi. Let me also state that I'm married, have a full time job and have kids. Playing time of 3-4 hour lengths (so I can be buffed) is usually 4 or more times a week, if I'm lucky.
The math:
To obtain even one level of force sensitive I would need 1,225,000 jedi exp
This translates to 36,750,000 of some 30 to 1 combat trade in but I'll half it because I get combat xp too = 18,375,000
Now if I take reasonably hard enemies at the Tusken fort that can be dispatched relatively quickly, I will get roughly 2100 xp per tusken.
This means I would need to kill roughly 8750 tuskens per force sensitive level for a grand total of52,500 tuskens, which is about half the population of the town I live in! Let say I could kill5 per minute (which is optimistic because sometimes there are too many people there.) This would take 175 hours ofkilling tuskens (not the travel time, buffing time and cantina time)and at 3 hours per shot would be roughly 58 sessions. So we are down to killing tuskens for over 3 months straight. Woohoo! I can't wait!!! I'm sure this is what the dev's invisioned!!!
See, I think when we all complained that randomly doing professions wasn't fun and that we wanted a mission-based system, I don't think we invisioned a MASSIVE GRIND FROM HADES to go along with it. Now, I could just play casually, doing other missions and such (maybe like the death corvette! yes, the place for picking up wounds) and get to jedi in, oh, a year or so but I've been playing for a long time and I'm ready for something different but the path to get there is so stinkin' long.
So to sum up dev's, thanks for the missions but the force sensitive grind may be just the thing that finally kills the SWG experience for me.
Also, to all you commandos that will explain to me how I can do grenades, yes, I am on that already, but it will still take a long time. Too long. And in doing this, I'm just trying to beat the system. Beating the system is also boring. Grinding is boring. The basic combat in SWG is boring. And my biggest fear: I'll get to padewan and find it terribly boring...

Nothing should be easy. People are already complaining that there are TOO many Jedi in the game. No matter what the devs do, the players will always find something to complain about. They can't make it a perfect system.
And it should be hard to become a Jedi. If you've seen even a few of the movies you would know that there are so little Jedi compared to others, it is a rarity and inorder to control the force requires a lot of training.
If you have apprehensions about doing the grind to become Jedi, maybe you shouldn't, it is the single hardest grind in the game with hard quests to even unlock the trees. It requires dedication and motivation. I don't suggest doing it if you don't think you'll like it...but it's your choice.

simple solution: don't grind it
The devs haven't said how long it would take you to grind up to unlock Jedi. Then again it isn't supposed to be easy. I don't agree with how the devs have made the jedi system, there should be a different system of picking jedi and make them rare, they made the same mistake with the economy. You simply can't predict the outcome of something that is totally in players' hands.
This is their way of making sure not everyone will be walking around with a Jedi character.
It took me 2 months to get all the xp for FS, but i've already forgotten how much i grinded on that. So heopfully you will like padawan when and if you eventually make it. I know i did, and i don't have a whole lot more hours to spend on SWG than you have.

Sorry to say it but there are a number of problems with your post.
(1) This is old ground that gets revisited once a week.
(2) If you can't stand the grind then wait until Jedi - its a lot more of the same.
(3) I am 'all ears' for a suggestion to improve the concept of gaining Jedi. This is far better than hologrinding and is time-gaited to at least slow down the 'powergrinders'. The idea of quests is redundant given that said 'powergrinders' will still nail Jedi far quicker than casual gamers. Introducing any luck based system to increase the chance that specific accounts might get Jedi quicker is also unfair....so by all means suggest an improvement.
(4) Its meant to be hard - plain and simple.
This was never an easy system to create and to be honest (and I am a casual gamer) I'll get Jedi in about 3 months having been FS since September. I go out and max TKA with the help of C12s from time to time and can do a branch witihin the 3 week phase shift without living next to my PC. In reality it seems like it'll be closer to 1/2 the branch xp per phase as my XP average. But I am in no rush - why the hurry for you.
Oh and killing Tuskens at 2100xp is hardly the best way. A hurrton stalker is a far easier kill and yields 5000xp.

I have a full time job and GF and social life, but i am managing to keep my FS grind on a level with my village unlocks, and i still find a bit of time to do other things in SWG.
There are ways. The ways are well documented in these forae.

actually bud if the spawns are fixed I hunt mutant rancors and such with my master rifleman and can earn a pretty hefty chunk of xp killing 1 lair. If you get those good static spawn lairs you can rack up nearly 40k your demed xp maybe more and about 4k combat xp or about 5k your demed xp and 500+ combat per rancor there. Not to mention the nightsisters and all are a little bit more frisky.

Interesting posts. I'm sorry to rehash something that's already been said a million times. However, my point, even though it wasn't made well was that it seems that the whole "getting to jedi" system is set up to be slow for power players or people who use the best armor/weapons/techniques but is a near impossibility for the casual gamer and the casual gamer is SWG's target audience. I felt betrayed because I waited on the "quest" system to jedi because it was going to be more fun (the quest are actually somewhat interesting). I just must have missed the little clause that said that there would be a worse grind than getting all those professions mastered. I feel like the dev's said:
Ok, you don't want to grind professions, we will let you do quests for jedi(everyone applauses) *however there will be a worse grind
See what I mean?
As far as my selection of things to kill, tuskens spawn continuously, lairs have to be searched out or gotten in missions, which even though I would get double the xp for each kill, I couldn't kill them fast enough to get the same xp, IMO.

I think the path to become Jedi Padawan should not be too hard. But it should be very hard after becoming one. Most people only want to fell how it is like to wear robe and ls, since SWG is the online game for starwars fans and jedi is one of starwars main atraction.
The path after padawan to master jedi should be harder than now, harder enough to make some people give up and use their 2nd char instead. For examples there are certain rules can be applied:
1.A Jedi can not equip their light saber and robe on the cities or near non-Jedi unless they are attacked first by BH.
2.When they are using LS and non-jedi approach, their LS and robe automatically hidden.
3.Remove profession tag over char head for Jedi, so people can not know of someone Jedi or not.
(These points will eliminate complains of too many Jedi Around.)
4.Jedi PvP can only be done in special places that non-Jedi can’t enter.
(So Jedi can have fun of themselves)
2.When they are using LS and non-jedi approach, their LS and robe automatically hidden.
3.Remove profession tag over char head for Jedi, so people can not know of someone Jedi or not.

So, there are no more jedi bulling and gank non jedi, no show off. And put a jedi role similiar with the film.

i agree completey. I am in basically the same boat as you, just sub part time job and full time school, and I am not having too much trouble keeping up. I think that if you really think its too hard you probably aren't doing it right. Yes it takes millions and millions of xp to get there but it is supposed to be a lot of work. I am glad it is as much work as it is cause it weeds out the people that can't handle it. Grinding millions of xp is not for everyone and similarly, jedi is not for everyone. So many people complain about how hard it is to get jedi but they never even mention or think about the jedi grind. Like once they get initiate its all over. Thats when the wake up call hits... If it were easier there would be way more jedi running around than there already are. The bottom line is that you have 3 weeks to complete a tree if you wanna keep up. Even if you don't keep up, just keep unlocking those trees and then finish your xp grind at a pace you are comfortable with. If you REALLY want jedi, stick with it and tough it out. Its' not meant to be an overnight, instant gratification reward and people need to accept that. I for one will feel a sense of accomplishment the day Mellichae is dead at my feet.

dude, ive done it grinding 60K FS xp per day using TKM only(1.5hrs a day) ok so its taken me nearly 24 weeks but yes it is posible for the casual gamer.
i play more than 3hrs per day but once ive capped and converted im done, i then *play* the game or log depending on how the mood takes me. the worst part is only having a million FS xp left its like wearing concrete boots to get to the finish line.

Ok, I can see we are now in the "hey the jedi grind for me is no problem and you must be doing it wrong or can't take it" part of the thread, however, you guys seem to be missing my point. Let me review:
1. The new jedi system was sold as a more interesting way to obtain jedi than grinding professions. It was supposed to be more realistic and more fun. As I see it, the new grind is the equivalent of doing 22.5 professions plus doing some brief missions plus driving back and forth to some obscure village on Dathomir. This is what I consider a complete screwover by the developers.
2. Grinding is not fun for most gamers. I realize that most people who read these forums are power gamers and consider a grind a normal part of gaming but most gamers hate grinding. I hate grinding. I purchased SWG to to have fun and be immersed in the Star Wars universe. I did not grind professions because it wasn't what I wanted to do and when the devspromised a more interesting way to jedi, I actually believed them.
3. I wasn't posting this thread to whine but I just had a revelation that I had been lied to and am frustrated.
