SOE: "We're changing the combat xp conversion to 1:30."

Jedi: "So? It doesn't effect me. I don't care."

FS Grinder: "Hey! Just because you already have your jedi! It effects me and it pisses me off! The village is fine, the glowy process needs to be longer!"

Non-Glowy: "...hypocrite..."

Also known as the NIMBY mentality - "Not In My Back Yard"

It's okay, the fun thing about the Nerf Bat is that it swings both ways. When it bounces back and whacks the current Jedi population, that sound you're going to hear will be the people working towards Jedi trying to stifle a belly-laugh. Hey, we're not Jedi yet, doesn't affect us right?

Unfortunately its a very emotive subject which is why the opinions always get so polarised.

If the "make glowy take longer" bit was aimed at my comment in other thread then you are right, but I did clarify it earlier by saying that every solution or proposal has flaws..........

There will never be a right answer sadly and this "I'm uneffected" mentality will always presist over every subject here, but I must admit to thinking its quite a catchy phrase

Heh, I'll go so far as to admit that I did read your post only a few minutes before I posted... lol Seriosuly though, I wasn't attacking you or any one person (which is why no names were mentioned). I just noticed that a lot of people seem to recognize that for a jedi to spout how much they don't care is very self-centered, but they fail to recognize (or at least acknowledge) that when they say to make the glowy process longer instead that they are doing much the same thing.

I agreed with pretty much your entire post. I think smacking the casual player because the power-grinders are grinding too fast with perhaps less than admirable means is a horrible way to "control" the jedi population. I just found it somewhat comical that people get so bent out of shape for what a jedi says and then pretty much say the same with respect to the non-glowies.

The devs need to figure out that "time" cannot be the solution to controling the Jedi problem no matter how you slice it. Power gamers will grind no matter how long it takes. Making it take longer will just prolong the inevitable. The uber advantage of Jedi must be removed, or left alone and Jedi must be penalized for being killed. There's no other way.

I agree with this. Attacking the Jedi population numbers at the front end solves nothing. The power gamers will still get those slots. It only slows down the casual gamer anyway and those numbers are not that high in the Jedi population in the first place. It also doesn't do anything to adress the population that already exists unless the plan is to lower the numbers through attrition.

Doc,

You stated it well, no it won't affect them it will affect those that have a life. Those that take 5 hours to get one box . Those that may take a week or more to get one box done due to all sorts of reasons.

What will happen, we will get bored move on and it will only be them left............

They way I see it is that no matter what happens some people will never be happy. I really could care less about the xp changes, just roll with the punches. When I take my alt jedi when I complete 26 more professions I will learn to deal with it also. Not like xp is all that hard to get anyway, even if they nerf the xp for groups you will still get it faster than by soloing.

If they want to lower the pop then the first thing they should do is ban every account they see on ebay or where ever else for sale. If they wanted to get really crazy they could put a cap on how many could be online at one time and if you want to play your jedi only then you would have to wait or just play the alt you get.

Hehe, i knew i was right I knew you werent flaming and your comment actually really amused me in the middle of a very crappy day at work, so thank you for that mate.

I think wots got most peoples backs up is the way this is being done, ie via the back door with no announcement or comment. It annoys people that are halfway through the process coz nobody likes having the goalposts moved on them. Maybe a solution is to implement a 2-tier method from a specific ANNOUNCED date i.e anyone currently at the village on or b4 1st August (example) stays on the current scheme and anyone after goes on the revised scheme? I know this again discriminates but at least it would appease more players than it would upset maybe?

UltimatelyI suspect we're all just gonna have to grin and bear it coz all the moaning in the world never seems to influence these decision makers.

i totally agree with the "having the goalposts moved" argument. if this system had already been in place when i started the village, then i would have just accepted it and mentally prepared myself for the long grind. but to change it now after i've already accepted the current system kinda pisses me off because obviously i don't want to turn back after going so far already but at the same time i HATE mindless grinding and want to get back to playing the game. so as it is now, i have todo as much grinding as my limited play time will allow (which is not a lot with a job and wife) in order to bank as much fs xp before the fs conversion nerf takes place. so that also means that i have to temporarily put all the fun aspects of them game on hold, which is the real reason i play in the first place. i can only hope that jedi is worth all the suffering

As I said in an earlier post, this is how the Jedi perspective works:

Jedi: The path to Jedi is too quick/easy. Why do they feel this way? Because every new Jedi makes them less and less elite/unique, if either of those terms actualy apply to Jedi anymore.

FS grinder: The path to Jedi is too slow/hard. Why do they feel this way? Because they want to be a Jedi, and the grind is the only thing keeping them from having what they want.

Your "average" player that doesnt want to be a Jedi: The path to Jedi is too quick/easy. Why do they feel this way? They either think A) Jedi unbalance the game, so they dont want many, or B) their out of line with the story of SW.

The really ironic thing is its possible for a person to have been all of these things. They start out as a player who doesnt want to bea Jedi and doesnt think they should be in game. Then they start to think that since Jedi unbalance the game, the only way to not fall behind is to "evolve". So they start the FS path. Then, once started, they think its too slow/hard for the reasons mentioned above. Once their finaly a Jedi, they dont want others becomming Jedi because then how do they have an advantage?

Its pretty much always been this way, and will be with any system implemented, because of the reasons mentioned w/ each category of people.

Considering thats just how the wheel turns, its best to stay out of it if you can. What I mean is, each of the above categories, with very few exceptions, are going to be that way. Its best just to accept reality, and not let them offend you, just realize the reasons behind the way they think, and that their not "bad", but their not exactly "the greater good" either.

is it true theyre making combat xp conversion 1:30? that doesnt make sense because you get a 10th combat xp of weapon xp, so naturally the conversion would be the same
