Thread: Dumb question about Luke

So here's a thought...

Consider that jedi were trained from a very early age during the first couple movies and didn't actually make knight until they'd been padawans for something like 10-15 years, right? I mean... Anakin starts off as a snot-nosed little punk around age 5-6 and is still a padawan at age 17-18 (or whatever he was supposed to be during AotC). So I figure 10-15 years. Pretty reasonable, I'd think.

Now consider Luke from the original movies. How long did he train? A week? Maybe two? After all, he goes to Dagobah during ESB, then leaves to confront Vader during the same movie. Lando and Chewbacca then leave to go search for Boba Fett. End of movie. Next we have RotJ, with Luke pretty much a full-blown Jedi Knight (okay, okay, technically Yoda says, "not yet," but we all know he really is). Then, of course, he confronts Vader and kicks his butt.

So... Is there any way I can get trained by Yoda? I kinda like the two-week accelerated training program, as opposed to the 18-week+ long correspondence course we're currently doing...

Of course, either way is definitely preferable to the 10-15 year thing. I doubt I'd want to still be grinding Jedi in the year 2015.

Build a man a fire and he's warm for a night. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

And don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Because then you're a mile away and you have his shoes.

Actually I think Anakin started out a very smart, intuitive little boy - very well behaved and helpful. He wasn't really a snot nosed little whiner until Ep2 (what the heck happened?) lol. This is probably one of my little pet peeves. Children tend to reflect their environment and Anakin was a nice kid (better than most 5-6 year olds), he thenleaves home and is trained by Jedi until we see him again in Ep2. So how could a nice little kid raised by the epitome of patience and peace turn out such a little bastage in Ep2? This is my pet peev just because I think Lucas dropped the ball a bit on this transition because it just wouldn't happen that way.

Some may say well he was angry about leaving his mother, being a slave, etc. but he was upset about leaving his mom as any little kid would be. He wasn't even angry about being a slave as it was the only life he had known and was considered quite normal. There was definitely an element of the child psyche missing between the two episodes imo.

I think luke was exploting on dagobah.. I think he camped the cave where he "killed himself"..

Even more likely, he was camping the warren, while we were watching Han and the crew flying into giant worms..

Well you have to think of it like this. The entire trilogy takes place over a timespawn of around 4 years. Still thats no where near enough time to become a full jedi knight but Anakin was the son of the force! And if a jedi has an offspring they are stronger in the force then their parents. So Luke (and leia) are the children OF the son of the force so of couse the jedi teachings would come to them faster than force sensitives.

I got too caught up in Anakin and totally neglected Luke lol. Yes Luke trained considerably less, but when you compare him and the skills we get to see it is blatantly obvious he is not of the same caliber as the Jedi of the Old Republic. So if you could be trained by Yoda and end up a poser punk like Luke, or train longer to be more like the young Obi Wan or Qui Gonn which would you prefer?

You're right tho- this IS better than 10-15 years of training hehe. Imagine sitting on the top of your house fight clubbing with a remote for 10 years lol.

It's all those raging teenage hormones, having to miss prom, and not getting laid.

And of course there's also the fact that there's a grand total of what? Five hot chicks in the entire Star Wars universe? Princess Leia's off limits 'cause she's not even born yet (and she's his daughter, too!). He hasn't seen Amidala since he was 6, and Amidala's handmaiden is off with her. Then there's Jabba the Hutt's dancing girl, Oola, who probably isn't born yet either. That leaves Smurfette, and God only knows where she's at - off frolicking in the woods with a bunch of smurfs.

So... he's totally hot for Amidala and can't do anything about it for 10 years (or whatever it was). Makes perfect sense to me that he'd turn to the dark side after all that. Either that or turn gay (can I show you my lightsaber, young Jedi?). I think I'd probably prefer the dark side, myself.

See, if someone had just introduced him to Smurfette back when he was 16, we wouldn't have had all these problems and the universe would still be a happy place. Billions of people would still be alive, Alderaan would still be in existence, there'd be loads of Jedi, we wouldn't have to deal with an 18-week long grind... The benefits are endless.

Of course, I figure there's also a good chance Jar Jar gets killed sometime during the Clone Wars, with Anakin turning to the dark side.

Hmm... six of one, half dozen of the other...

Yeah, well Luke got handed a lightsaber before he'd even heard of Jedi Knights. And not a wussy training saber, either, but a 4th gen 2handedwith 50/50/-9 tuned pearls. Oh, and I think he 'sploited the Dagobah 0,0 spawn, even got a warning on his SOE account. He'd have made Master, too, but there were no other FRS Knights to fightclub with.

Hot chicks? So you're saying T&A, or lack thereof, caused the fall of the Jedi Order and plunged the galaxy into turmoil? Hmm. I think you're close to the mark, but still off. A Jedi craves not these things...

..but Sith on the other hand. I think it was Palpatine that was in fact lusting and not getting any. This continued through his mid-life crisis period...through the training of Darth Maul & through scheming with Tyranus he needed to remain hidden. As a politician you would think he could get some (men of power and all that), but apparently he didn't.

Now if someone had introduced him to smurfette he would have been happier and also have added Sith smurfs, which would have made the whole series last a lot longer. Papa Smurf using force lightning on Gargamel ftw

I think this will be ( i hope) explained in ep3.

Jin willappear before ben and tell him that he says wrong about anakin. Anakin isnot the choosen one, his children are!!!

When u look at the way luke moves about and fights in the films its clear that if he were confronted by a trained sith lord like say maul he would be sliced to ribbons!!! the only jedi he has to fight is a gimp with a bucket on his head and an old git with xmas tree lighting on the end of his fingers!! lol
