Thread: Can't finish the grind before the CU hits...

Well, what I feared has finally happened. There is no way I can finish the xp grind before the CU hits. (Too many RL issues to deal with over the next few weeks). With that, and the reports I'm reading from TC, my hopes of my toon ever holding a lightsaber have mostly vanished.

Is it really even worth continuing to pursue, knowing that I won't be finished by the time the CU nerfs everyone's ability to gain xp?

Well, I would say that gaining as much XP as you can in the current system would be wise. When I saw the street date of the CU, I instantly revamped my template to enable grenade grinding, and I am going to finish it. I get between 100-350k of FS XP everytime I log, at a minimum. I have about 2.3 million to go, and my next few weeks are pretty busy in RL...so, we'll see.

I say grind as much as you can now...it can't hurt.

NOFXwookie,

I really hate to bring this up to ya, but the concept of the CU is mainly to force people to STOP soloing, in other words, slow down leveling and force people to be more social.

Does that mean getting Padawon after the CU is impossible? No.

Perhaps you should read and try to comprehend the post before sending out your little gems.

What the poster asked is if IT WAS possible, or worth it to continue and finish post CU. And yes it is. I also recommend getting as close to six branches. When it hits in May, it's going to be just like playing another game at launch. Things will work, things work, and a lot of people will be upset. Hopefully I'm wrong, but with what I've seen so far, I think my hopes are nothing more than wishful thinking.

A year from now, more people will be playing SWG than they are now. The real question with the CU is who does it address? The players who are mainly soloers now, or the players who hated to be alone, who have already quit the game?

Ah..I always love when people get caught in a quote before they can edit.

People are concerned with FS XP grinding after the CU because it will be far more time consuming and difficult to kill things. I highly doubt we will be able to stand in a lair while being attacked by 5 creatures and survive for very long in the new system while solo.

I don't think it is an unreasonable worry, since I have the same concerns for my Padawan grind when I get there.

Arestal,

Thank you for reading my post. Thiswas not a "woe is me" post. But trying to get more of a reality check from those who are in similar situations as to whether or not Jedi is worth pursuing post CU.

I have unlocked 6 branches and am now just in the XP grind mode. When the first details of the CU hit, I also switched my template over to 4/0/0/0 Commando and started buying grenades en-masse. I can cap out and convert my combat xp in under a mind buff session and realistically can do that once daily at most. However, I also have 16 boxes left to fill at this point. (Ballpark 5MM FS XP left) Am I determined enough to grind that xp? Yes - but that's not my question.

Will Jedi be a profworthhaving in the new combat system? That is what gives me pause.

Excellent question. I can only answer for myself, but it IS worth it to me. It wasn't worth changing my template over until I heard about the CU and it's effects, which has led me to take some hits in my sleep schedule and weekends so that I might pull off a full or partial buff once or twice during the workweek and then one or two more full buffs on the weekends. I h ave a reasonable expectation to finish the nade grind skill boxes before the CU, but I do not expect to get Luck completed in that time.

In a real way I see this as my opportunity to start over as a Jedi while everyone else is in essence starting over as well. No sense of the loss of power that Jedi used to have, as I will have never had it. Similarly, the limits and possibilities of the Jedi profession will be entirely defined by the new order, not requiring a rethink or retemplate or simple readjustment. In the short term I expect things will be very difficult, as I expect many aspects of the rebalancing will not be ironed out until a few months into live publish. Still, it's a journey worth it to me. Maybe viewing it this way may make it more palatable to you as well.

Before you try to bash me for actually having an optimistic outlook on the CU and how it wont make exp'ing harder. Posts like his fill everyones head with the idea that the CU is the end of everything, if you're not jedi by then its over, no hope, good luck games over. Look at what he said. Thats is a direct PITY ME statement. As if the CU will KILL all possiblities of getting EXP. NO it cant. The game would DIE if that was the case. Anything you can do now, aside from solo krayts/elders you WILL/SHOULD be able to do post CU. AND WHO THE HELL SOLOS KRAYTS AND ELDERS FOR EXPERIENCE POINTS.Clearing the jinda cave is how I get my exp and I am sure it will still be there once the CU comes. If its not, thenI have some major decisions to make. Hope you feel stupid now.

Allssoo. Just so ya know. I despise the CU. I wish we dont ever have a change that drastic. I have come to learn and love our current system. The good and the bad, its all there and we havelearned to use it to our best advantage. However, if the CU must come, it must. All I can do is give my best feedback and try to make sure stuff works. Complaing wont get anything solved; ever. I think I will go and try tc5 again since I havnt played since I tested marksman.

From what I've seen xp ratios per kill are still comparable and in some cases better. The difference is that it is not necessarily harder to get xp, but it takes longer if solo. You canmake some kick @ss xp in groups, but even solo you can do ok, but it will take longer. So if you are really dedicated to getting your Jedi then you will do what it takes regardless of the CU and its effect on gameplay. I'm trying to get enough xp to at least finish Mel before CU, but if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen - I'll keep pluggin away and bring a boatload of people to help with Mel when the time comes. Creature Handlers will even be worth grouping with again! wow.

Now I have a question for you all, how do you think the CU will effect your getting xp as a Jedi. Nowadays when you start out as a padawan I have heard of some people complain its like starting out as a new character with only a cdef.

I for one am holding off my grinding so that I can learn the new system and not worry about losing Jedi xp everytime I have to clone.

No profession is exempt from the CU which includes Jedi.

According to Shensen, you can still solo, but get less xp than if you were in a group. I don't know how true this fact is since I haven't been on TC to try it out myself, but let's assume he/she is right.

Why should I be penalized if I don't want to group? I would like to imagine that there are some people like me who are limited to about 2-3 hours of game play per night during the week. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I find it quicker to armor up, buff all my stats, and grab some missions alone than it would be to stand in a starport spamming for hours about how I want to join a group. And what then? You join a group and find that "Jon" has to log in a hour, "Ben" has only been in the game for a week and doesn't know how a group should work as a "team", "Sam" doesn't have any of the new armor...can he borrow some, "Jane" rushes the lair and gets killed before the doc can reach her and starts screaming about a rez, "Carol" doesn't have a speeder,...blah, blah, blah. I could go on. But such has always been my experience with groups. It's always going to take time to find one and once you do, you run the risk of joining with people who will ruin it. I'm in a great guild full of mature people who do work as a team. So sure, I like some of the social aspects of this game, but I most certainly avoid people when given the choice because I have met far many more who make me wishI had the ability to force choke than thoseI want to fight shoulder to shoulder with.

So will the CU be more rewarding to groups asopposed tothose who choose to go solo? I hope not. What people don't realize is that thosewho go out andsolo a krayt or solo Melmake up far less of the population than those who don't. I'm aMaster Swordsman with some Medic. I got a wild streak on Friday anddecidedto try soloing a krayt. I was fully buffed, armored, weaponed with stims, brandy, canape, exo-protien wafers...you name it,I had it. And I still got mybutt handed to me.

I guess my endpoint is this.A player should not be rewarded more or less for being in a group or being solo. There should be just as much merit in taking down a hardkill aloneas there should be for taking down a harder kill as a group.

Annastriana

I totally know where you're coming from bro and typically in most MMORPGs you will find better xp in groups for two main reasons:

1) You can fight extremely tough mobs as a group

2) You get xp bonuses for being grouped (this is a standard in almost any game I've played online)

This is not to say you cannot solo tough critters, but you won't be able to lets say solo an Ancient Bull Rancor on your way to the village whereas a group would be able to. It's not so much a reward for grouping as it is being rightfully compensated for the level of mob you took down. You can still go out solo and fight yellow con mobs andmaybe some oranges (havent tried yet)and get great xp- the main difference is it will take more tactic and time to do so. So you see, you can still effectively solo, but you won't get xp as fast as a good group will. Unfair to the solo player? Yeah I think it is- they are basically forcing you to group if you want the best and fastest xp.

I like playing solo just because when you get this many people together in one place, the stupid people really stand out more and there always seem to be a few that slip into a group. I find that by the time I account for the deaths caused by said stupid people, I would have been better off solo and that's what I do (unless it's guildies of course and then we all know who the stupid people are in advance and can make necessary preparations lol )

Personally I don't care much about speed as long as the solo play is there for those of us that want it. I can take my time.

Well, I don't really see the point in worrying too much about it, because its goin to happen whether we like it or not. I have my six unlocks and two trees filled but due to RL issues like work and class and having my girlfriend not stab me while I sleep, getting padawan before the CU is unlikely for me as well. But all I can do is brace myself for the worst and hope for the best.

Oh, and I can solo a giant canyon krayt but it takes me nearly a whole buff just to kill one.....groups are funner.
