Thread: Can't finish the grind before the CU hits...
I completely understand your plight. I too have been in a very similar position since the inception of the Jedi Villiage and FS grind. Most people do not understand the sheer need for some of us to attain Jedi. While many of us have a strong desire to reach that goal, it is not always for the same reason. Personally, I think your choice to continue on the path to a Jedi must ultimately be made on a basis of just how much you want to be a Jedi, and more importantly why.
I myself was an entertainer for the vast majority of my time in SWG since launch. I had always been a Master Dancer, Master Musician, and Master Entertainer, and no one else that knew me could ever remember me being anything other. A few months ago I learned the nature of the CU, and how it could possibly change the system to attain a Jedi yet again. While I had no concrete proof that it would nerf the grind, or alter it in some way that might make it harder, I assumed it would do something to further deter those of us that had yet to hold a lightsaber in triumph over our sacrifice in grinding.
With the knowledge that change would come, as it always does, I decided to fight back and attain my goals. I gathered the money I needed for the infamous grenade grind and set out on my way to Mastering Swordsman, and gaining Commando 4000, and Medic 0040. Unfortunately this meant dropping all of my entertaining professions and fulfilling a completely different role in SWG. Now I hardly hang out in the cantinas anymore, unless I am getting buffed for combat or reducing my battle fatigue.
I have filled nearly 3 trees, and have only unlocked those trees. I am currently on my way to the path of Jedi, and although I will not complete my unlocks before the CU, I am grinding away to ensure that I have the neccessary XP banked by the time the CU launches. I do not know if the FS system or its requirements will change when the CU launchs, but it doesn't matter to me. I am focused and I have my goals in mind, and I never forget that the true goal is not to attain my path in SOE's time, but my own. If I am meant to fulfill the role of Jedi, I will attain it CU or not.
My words are written not as a means of gloating over my apparent success in grinding in such a short time, that I -can- use the grenade grind unlike some, or an attempt to complain or whine at the loss of my coveted entertainer professions. This is solely a post to say you should never lose hope. No matter how much or how little you have left, you should continue to push on as hard as you can to attain your goal of Jedi. No player here, and not even SOE can deny you that (unless they pull Jedi altogether).
My point is, you're not alone. There are many of us out there grinding away with concerns that our dreams of Jedi might never be realized, but I know mine will be, and I believe your's can be too. We're out here rooting for you and anyone else with the determination and desire to prove it can be done despite the sacrifices. I know you can make it, Ulrick. You just have to keep pushing for it, and not let the negativity of some of SWG's patrons distract you.
In my heart, my profession has always been Jedi. I've just been following a longer road than some to get to it. I think you follow a similar path, Ulrick. The only way you'll ever really not make it, is if you stop walking down that path.
Keeping the faith,
Arycon Naelis

Will Jedi be a profworthhaving in the new combat system? That is what gives me pause.
Excellent question. I can only answer for myself, but it IS worth it to me. It wasn't worth changing my template over until I heard about the CU and it's effects, which has led me to take some hits in my sleep schedule and weekends so that I might pull off a full or partial buff once or twice during the workweek and then one or two more full buffs on the weekends. I h ave a reasonable expectation to finish the nade grind skill boxes before the CU, but I do not expect to get Luck completed in that time.
In a real way I see this as my opportunity to start over as a Jedi while everyone else is in essence starting over as well. No sense of the loss of power that Jedi used to have, as I will have never had it. Similarly, the limits and possibilities of the Jedi profession will be entirely defined by the new order, not requiring a rethink or retemplate or simple readjustment. In the short term I expect things will be very difficult, as I expect many aspects of the rebalancing will not be ironed out until a few months into live publish. Still, it's a journey worth it to me. Maybe viewing it this way may make it more palatable to you as well.
Well said.
I have finally managed to get past a bug with my software and logged into TC last night for the first time. I'm less concerned now than I was, although the combat is different and will take some getting used to. A guildmate of mine just got novice commando in TC, so I'm hoping he can shed some light on what the "grind" might be after the CU with my current template.
Either way, thank you again for the encouragement and may we all hold our lightsabers aloft in triumph of finishing the village!

Thanks for the encouragement on the grind. Yes, I do believe it will be worth it for me personally in the end, and as such, I capped xp again last night and made the village run. What I have decided though is to continue to enjoy the game vs. just straight grind like a madman until the CU.

My feeling is that the trials will be adjusted to around where they are now. It would be a very poor choice for the devs to require Padawan grouping to finish this...but you never know.

Simple question
If i was to complete the village before the cu and start the pawdi trials after the cu would i need to group with others? maybe even jedi to finish the padi trials?
I can just see it now, a group of padi's whos only goal is to become jedi nights get turned into cat food by b/h every time they get together and step out the door.
Im trying to grind now (not even filled a box yet) and i can see my saber glowing in the distance. Its a long road and their r many dangers but the force willing i will get their.
I feel your pain, I myself decided to go ahead and try to finish the grind before the CU. I just started 2 nights ago and I have my first tree completed.
If everythig goes as planned, I should be able to unlock at the end of april. I waited to long to do this when I should've finished this long ago. I was dumb and dropped all my FS skills when I changed my template about 2 months ago. I dropped 3 complete trees.
I think if you really want it you can achieve it
