Well, lets start from the beggining
Me and my friend needed to do the Phase 3 combat quest (you can see where this is going)... we had heard some horror stories so we formed a group of four people and set out.
When we arrived, firstly, the base said the shields were already down (this means only one of us will get the reward), right before a hoard of 30-40 sith thugs come charging at us. We try to engage, two people die instantly, I die a few seconds later, my friend tries to draw the thugs away from our sitting AV-21s.
Now, dont get me wrong, I like SOE, I like the game... but...
Dont you think 40 50k HAM Mobs with 80% resists is a teenie weenie bit extreme? I wouldnt mind fixing the broken shields atleast - so we can actually finish the mission (im talking about the shield already being down when we get there).
Wait - theres more.
After this incident, we try again... but with more than 30 guild members together (It was one of our weekly guild raids). 4 of us upfront again, with two large groups waiting as backup for when we spawn the 10 thugs (which is all that is meant to spawn) spawn. But noooo.... the shield is already down - again. Suddenly, out of NOWHERE, another hoard of 10-20 thugs spawn BEHIND the two larger groups, half our bikes get destroyed, 10 people die. The entire guild scatters, several Jedi and a few Rifleman/Pikemen (including myself) stay back to try and fend them off, but every time we kill one, another replaces it almost instantly.
All of this for 2 people wanting to do the meelee accuracy quest...
The part I dont understand is, why is this mission so impossibly difficult, when the Phase 1 combat quest can be done unbuffed and unarmoured hmmm?
Thanks for any replies, dont flame if you can help it...

OK, first of all, I have not done this quest this phase. I did it the last time the village was in phase III, so if it is harder now or not, I cannot say.It took me three tries to do it last time, and based on my experience then, and on what I have read about this quest, it is designed so you have to think, plan, and communicate. Rushing in,guns blazing of glory will almost certainly get you killed. Have you read through any of the guides to this quest posted in this forum? Most are pretty good, and will give you an idea of what your overall strategy should be. Needless to say, an all out frontal attack is not included in most of them.
As for the shields, if they are down, then another group has already started the quest at that base, and you should probably move on to another base. When I did the quest, I killed enough sith to get several remotes, so that if I got to a base, and the shields were down, my group could just move on to the next base until we found one where the shields were still up. You may still be able to capture the commander, and complete the quest for one of your group, but, if the person who dropped the shields does not kill five thugs, or does not die, then the thugs will just continue respawning. And, I am pretty sure the commander does not spawn until the person who dropped the shields either dies or kills 5 thugs, so you may not be able to capture him anyway. That is why I say move on to another base. The base will not reset for a LONG time.
Anyway, good luck on this. This was absolutely my favorite village quest, precisely because it was hard, and once I finished it, I really felt like I accomplished something. Plus, the mind crystal you get for the group bonus has come in VERY handy on several occasions.

this quest is not difficult at all... im tkm/master rifle and soloed it...
Tip: use a rifleman to pull one sith at a time.. ONE sith at a time.
when you have killed 5 siths, the commander will spawn.
Blast the gate from distance, and when theres a despawn time (4-9secs) you run in, capture the commander and run like hell out again.
If youre a rifleman, you can do this alone.

reply thats funny i did it first try with 5 people total...
2 materswds/brawlers
2 master rifle men
and me
even with my defense lowered to almost useless due to my grenade grind templAte
thugs are not that hard.... u just need to lure them away and take em 1 or 2 at a time....
u wouldnt try to attack a group of night sisters without lureing would you?
use tactics and it will pan out.

well, if u want to do it the hard way, i suggest engaging the thugs, but i think this quest is doable with 2 person. you just need to use some tactics to complete it. as you guys would have probably read in the earlier post, the thugs are quite hard. but, if the shield dropper dies, u dont actually need to kill 5 thugs at all. and as for getting the commander, u need a little stealth here if u dont wanna die a lot. do u notice that if u wait a few minutes the thugs starts to despawn? in this 30-40 seconds window, run up to the base and just destoy the turret and gate. once the shield dropper dies, the commander will spawn. wait till the thugs despawn and capture the commander otherwise the timer will start ticking. once u have the commander and no thugs around, run away forrest.... run....

the key to this mission is the tactics, if your patient the sith will despawn and you have a window, like mentioned up top use arifle man to pull one sith at a time and also stay back so you don't agro the others., with large groups its hard to keep everyone back and listening to the plan a friend and I were able to do it fine with the help of 3 guild mates alsp remember it is not recomended to do this quest unless you have an elite profession. If the shields are already down when you arrive chances are someone else has been there recently. Don't get me wrong it is a hard mission, but with some good tactics it will go flawlessly. Be patient and wait for the despawn and yes all 5 of us were group and we did not get any more sith then the initial 10 they just come in waves and when one group despawns another will come running in just watch for the window. Hope this helps.

They designed it to be too hard to confront the thugs head on. Timing is everything as I'm sure you've already figured out. I just finished it today with a friend. It's possible with just two people using the 'shield dropper die method'. I know because we read the forums and followed everyones advice. Do the same and you'll complete it in no time.

If you like this phase you'll LOVE next phase. Nothing like getting killed when all you want to do is exchange XP!

The Phase 3 quest is how SWG some quests should be. Not all about braun and muscling past everything, but about tactics, strategy, and brains. My guildies now have all done the quest with a group no larger then 4 and not a soul passed away.

Next phase is when the Sith attack the village every ...not sure if it's 1 hour or what the exact timing is.
But, I have to say the phase IV quest was the most fun quest I did. Lots of teamwork as wave after wave of thugs (and other sith types) invade the village.
So, but whether or not you're actually doing a quest during phase IV, you have a good chance of being attacked while you're in there, even if all you want to do is exchange experience. It makes things a bit difficult, especially towards the end of the phase because most people have already done the quest. And, you're there with like 3 other people while you have 150 NPC's attacking you. LOL
