Thread: Idea for becoming jedi

Ok I hope I'm not the only one but tell me if any of you guys think this is fair.

I'm a busy person, I have work, school, a family and alot of real life stuff to do, rather than watch TV when I get home I play SWG. I've been tryingsince day 1 to become a jedi, its a personal dream of mine, ever since I was a little kid I never wanted to be a super hero I wanted to be a jedi (or a dark jedi on my bad days lol). I only play this game for fun, not to have a second job. Now I tryed to do the grind with holos, it just took to long to grind out 30 profs. Then when this Jedi town stuff came out I got a glimer of hope, that I might one day very soon be able to play my jedi. I got all my badges, did all the stuff I needed, wait for the old man and even lost sleep over it I was so excited... infact I hadent been that excited since I was 8 on christmass day! Then I got the old man, went to the village and found out I would have to wait 3 weeks for the next 6 phases if I wanted to be a jedi, but to make this a living nightmare, I would have to grind out billions of exp to train some stupid skills I could care less if I had, all just to play as a jedi char.

Well I've come to the idea that SOE: THANKS TO YOU I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO PLAY AS A JEDI. I have a life outside of this game, I can't play it enough to grind out all that exp and still have actual FUN in the game. Killing millions of mindless NPCs to get jedi isnt what I thought Luke, Darth Vader, Mace, or Mara went through to get to jedi, I should'nt have to do this. Now I know alot of people dissagree with me, and thats great because there are alot of jedi out there now. Cudos to them I'm happy for them, but when do I get my jedi.

Well thats my story, now here is my idea: I think that, now that we have so many jedi its not a matter of how many but rather when they will become jedi. There are alot of people who think the same way as I do. For those people who don't wan't to grind out millions of exp should have the option of waiting for there account to reach 1 year of payed play. That way SOE gets there money and ensures that they get paid for a good long year. Thus jedi becomes an optional Vet reward, after 1 big year of being on the game you should get a crystal that "calls" the old man to take you to you initiate training. That way when I grind I can actualy be grinding somthing I want to grind, I don't mind killing millions of mindless spawns if I'm doing it as a jedi, because then I feel like I've got somthing cool, and I'm not just your normal person. For those who don't want to wait 1 year for there jedi vet reward, can grind out jedi like normal.

Now I know alot of people are gona hate this idea, but there are people out there who have alot to do in there normal lives and just can't put alot of time into SWG, but hay we do pay that monthly fee so we should have somthing to show for it. I honestly don't have the money to go out and buy a jedi account on Ebay, and even then its not my char so I would still feel upset.

SOE: please consider my idea as there are many of us out there who just can't do this GRIND and would like to just enjoy a good game, and have the rush of being a jedi just like all the MEGA hardcore players.

thanks!

This idea sounds great and everything...NOT...

Let me ask, what should the people get that have been around for a year+ and have also made Jedi? I mean I haven't made Jedi yet, but I would have to say that I would be very annoyed if they did this, especially putting in lots of work to get to Jedi.

As much as you may not like it, all MMORPGs are like this, it takes work to get to where you want to get and nothing really comes easy. It is possible for you to become Jedi, even if you dont get to play every day. I took 4 months off and had to travel the world for work. I also took another two weeks off to go on a honeymoon and I should have Jedi by the time the next phase rolls around with ZERO free unlocks. If you figure it up, if you play long enough to use one buff session you can go through the process of the village and become Jedi, if you did the holo grind you might get some free unlocks, which would make the process go much much faster. To me, the accomplishment of getting to Jedi will be very satisfactory to me, I wouldn't appericate it as much if I purchased one off eBay or had one handed to me (I'm sure many others will agree with this statement).

If I wanted a Jedi handed to me I'd go play Knights of the Old Republic.

personally i think the system should be changed. i would like for jedis to be born and not grinded and remove that 2nd char slot but thats just my thoughts.

anyway spending time with your significant other is far better than spending hrs grinding on dantooine for more xp to convert. you cannot get the most of any game without sacrifices being made. so either pay someone to grind for you, or grind with the lil time you do have.

I disagree, I went glowy on sunday night, on tuesday night I was in bed with a lady and happened to notice a man stood by my guild hall, where I'd sat to wait for the visit. Having ordered my priorities on the way home from work earlier that day, I apologised to said lady, and went to sit at my desk, spoke to the old man and then got on with business. A little rude perhaps, but once I'd spoken to him, I made things up to the girlie; she certainly felt my force that night

You do have something to show for your time invested: you're normal mastered professions. Jedi is something you earn, its not a right. Plenty of casual players with families, jobs, responsibilities have gotten Jedi, myself included. What you are upset about is the timeframe required for your particular situation. Everyone has an equal opportunity, you're personal life dictates timframe, and in you're case, that timeframe may be a little longer than normal.

The reason they make it so long to get jedi is because if they made it easy, the game would be nothing but all Jedi, and that's not what star wars is all about. I like it the way it is. I'm 5 boxes away from getting my Jedi. I just have to wait til phase 3 to unlock my final tree. Once I get that, it will take me about 3 days to grind out those remaining boxes. (not even that long cause I will bank up 900k of FS xp while I wait for phase 3) So that makes it even sooner. Just have to learn patience and wait for the phase change...

I hate to say this but if you can't handle the FS grind; how in the world do you plan on grinding Jedi? The road to Jedi is a heck of a lot shorter than the path from padawan to knight.

Oh what's that you say? The next 1 year vet reward will take you from padawan to knight without grinding? Wow! You guys and gals that ground out your Jedi from scratch just go screwed!

I don't want to be mean and I know it sounds that way but really if you can't do the beginning grind you're never going to finish the Jedi grind. NEVER!

P.S You don't have to grind FS exp. just play normally and convert your exp. as you max it out. Will take you longer but it's not impossible to accomplish.

Combat Upgrade
Different doesn't always mean better. Just something else to learn and do before you realize. Hey! This system stinks just like the old system! Dev's: Wait for the CU 2 to fix that.

Well, I am not going to tell you that I hate your idea, and I'm not going to tell you that I think you are wrong as far as your real life is concerned. I think your absolutely right about how you have to manage your family, work and personal time as well as game time. I believe that no one should have the right to tell you otherwise.

However, I do have to say that even if I don't hate your idea. While the intentions are good, I don'tconsider it to be practical or anything along the lines of critical thinking either. First of all, if SOE adopted your idea it would be a direct slap in the face to so many people who have spent time, money, and effort into already developing their characters?. I can't imagine that amount of critical though that SOE put into the Jedi Revamp being that not only the way you achieve Jedi was changed, what was also changed was skill system, combat, items, etc. I can also probably stake that some of those decisions were not easy to make either.

Also, I think that when someone decides to play the game they know what they are getting into. The main theme is you design your own saga, and you choose your own path. It was that theme that got me interested in the game in the first place. Given that you also know that there is a lot of work involved. I myself also have other oblations in the real world as well. However, the one thing that I do is manage my time. I allocate a certain amount of time each day. Some people only allocate it on the weekends because that is all they have time for. The point is they allocate it and I believe that they try to make the most of it.

Furthermore, Just because we are paying customers and paying for a service remember that SOE is not obligated to give us veteran awards, nor the ladder. They do this just as any business would give a customer a gift or a incentive after a fair amount of time of that customer returning a number of times. It's basically business and it's how business is conducted. Don't forget about the special announcement that they had for people who were to come back in which they had left the game. This was during the time publish 10 had came out announcing the new system.

You may want to evaluate the reasons why you are playing the game. Playing this game should be fun, and it should be fun to meet new and exciting (ok maybe not exciting but you get the point) people online. If the situation was reversed andI was looking at this for any other reason than it being fun, then there is a problem there.

Good luck to you, and may the force be with you,

I'm what I'd define as casual, and will be doing my padawan trials soon....so how can you never become a Jedi? Yea, I to have been working on it since day one, and I do not think you should unlock from just playing for a set period of time.

I want to be a Doctor in real life, but I have other stuff to do besides go to College for 4 years and then go to Medical school for another 4 years and then do the internships required. This sucks and the people who decide what it takes to become a Doctor in real life make no allowances for people who do not have time to go to school.

It is really lame, I am not even able to buy a Doctor on ebay, so this is worse than jedi!

I just wish I could get everything I want in life without having to put forth any effort on my part and everything should be handed to me.

I've played for well over a year now (a month after launch). I wasn't interested in holo-grinding 1 bit even though I wanted to play a jedi character. When the village quest system was created I went for it.

I will have my jedi in the next day or so.

for your idea to come into reality would be a slap in the face to those of us that have busted our butts getting it already. In the real world we don't get anything for free, I don't expect SWG to be any different.

It was said earlier in the thread by someone else. If you can't handle the FS grind. you sure won't be able to handle the grind to knight.

FS grind is approximately 7.5million FS XP

my template when I am done with it is over 37million jedi XP.
