This quest is rediculously hard. I can't beat it either, even with help. I missed it the first time around because I couldn't get any help with it. Who wants to waste all that time when there is nothing even in it for them??? Good job SOE!
You really need a small army I think.
I managed to capture the guy one time, and he killed himself within 500m of the Village! Imagine my delight!
This quest is going to be strictly impossible Post CU. If Mel Acc wasn't so needed for Jedi, I would skip this damn quest entirely. It's the hardest of them all, hands down.

Nope, it's easy. I soloed it earlier today withabsolutely no problems.
Yes I know I didn't get the mind buff crystal. Unfortunately my friend who was going to help me out tested the CU and decided to quit. All I really wanted to do was finish the quest...besidesI doubt I'll be playing much longer after the CU goes live.
1. Buff
2. Choose a base within 3K of the Village.
3. Drop the shields, swoop in, take out the turrets & front gate,
4. Let the Thugs kill you (as if you actually had a choice).
5. Clone in SO, JTL to MO or C-Net andBuff (VIP if the lines are long).
6. Head back to the base you attacked.
7. Wait for the Thugs to despawn and then swoop into the base.
8. Shoot the back gate and then capture the commander.
9. Wait for the Thugs to despawn (again).
10. Burst run straight out of the base about 150 meters and then turn towards the village.
What helps?
Master Rifleman helps to take out the turrets (strafe 2) and works well on the pirates that try to steal/kill the commander.
Scout 4xxx (mask scent and terrain negotiation) helps a LOT when travelling Dathomir by foot.

Me and Kyvao smoked this mission in 45 minutes.I couldnt beleive we were dropiing thugs left and right. both of us were some variant of swordsman/doc/tk. This was the most fun i have had in swg.Just walking back with the commander....when you get to the fog ring....home stretch...you can here the Chariots of Fire theme...it was the coolest! Better than the dwb! Well maybe not

Isoloed this on the fourth try. Being a master swordsman helps. Pull 5 thgs from the group. Solo them and then be patient and wait for the despawn. I personnally ignored the turrets completely, they dont do much. If you drive into the gate with a swoop and hit the enter/exit button you acctually move throught the gate so you dont even have to wait for the despawn. wont work on the way out.. damn commander having to stay close to you is annoying. And as for th way back i didnt stop for anything. The pirates give up chase pretty quick.

Only problem I'm having is the remote I have won't power the shields down at the wp I was given. I tried this in a group and, he powered down the shields and when I went to take the commnder it wouldn't let me, it said I either had to be the one that powered down the shields or be in a group with that person which I was and I still couldn't capture him

Well from reading this no wonder I am getting slaughtered I am a 9 day old toon with novice rifles-pistoleer and commando lol. Ok I will hopefully respect to master rifles today and try the for mentioned method of getting in waiting on them to despawn (that is a smart plan).

Yea its pretty dam hard. I did it 2 days ago (Master Ranger / TKM Here) I stayed Camoed at all times when they despawned I destroyed the gates (got a m commando to take out the turrets) then i was able to draw away a few at a time and kill the 5 i needed. once that was done i stayed camoed had the others draw the rest away and run out with the commander in tow.
I walked 9 km back to Aurilla with the commander Across Dathomir, i was camoing my friends the whole time. (4 of us all together)
You just have to have the right strategy. But no way could we kill the 20 thugs that spawned.

Its not just you. I am a Master Commando and was paired with a Master Bounty Hunter and we just cant hardly drop the thugs they eat us up. Perhaps this is much easier for a melee template, but as a Commando I must be in melee range to use special moves and it gets really ugly at that point. I've tried it twice with my friend with no luck and as of now he saw the CU and is also quitting. Thanks for turning SWG in an EQ2 clone sony.

the wp you were given is in no way related to the remote you got. the remote is specific to one base (says it in its name) you can tell whitch base your at by looking at the little droids that are runing around it (their only purpose is to display the bases name as far as i can tell). you might want to loot more than one remote before you check the forums for where their corosponding base is. (some are really far away).

melee melee meleeintim intim intim i've done this phase4 times allrdy so far. the trick with thugs is to have a friend pull them (ungrouped the thugs will only chase him as long as nobody else attacks early) and run do not attack the thugs till they all drop off but one. then go melee on them ranged they are deadly in melee with intim on u can defeat them just takes awhile...
turrnets kill them before u drop the shelds with ranged kill your five thugs then wait for despawn crash the gate hard and get to the back asap. wait for despawn and run like the wind
my temp is scout4-0-0-4 tkm commando 4-0-4-0 and i use 83% comp armor and only brandy all stats where in the mind
group is the best way to go it can be done depending on your group you can make a few mistakes to none having a jedi is a great help. but not needed
loot more than 1 remote i looted 19 before i even attempted this quest and my guild has used the others i have so it was well worth it
goodluck
